Black Rock Shooter The Game Review

This exciting shooter might not be for everyone, but it's still pretty fun and has a big heart.

The PSP localization gods are fickle beings.  Sure, they bless us which such cool games as Gungnir, Class of Heroes, and God-Eater Burst.  But at the same time they deny us such pleasures as Final Fantasy Type-0.  It seems no mortal can understand these deities’ mysterious ways.

Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom Review

A unique and beautiful swan song for the PSP.

I’ve never been so deceived by a game before, as I was with Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom. It’s my own fault really, since I requested the title for review without knowing anything about it. Which is why, two hours in, I was confused as to why I was stuck reading a gratuitous amount of text. Impatient, I scoured the menus for anything that would clue me into the “gameplay” I was awaiting. Suddenly, reading didn’t bother me as much, I didn’t care about controlling a character, and my impatient anticipation for gameplay dissipated. All that mattered was the winding storyline, the fascinating characters, and making choices to define my own in-game destiny.

PS Vita Looks the Worst in a Bad Week for System Sales in Japan

The cantankerous PSP struts past that Vita whippersnapper.

The Media Create numbers that track video game sales in Japan for the week of January 9th through the 15th are out and present some pretty poor numbers all around.  The drop in sales across the board is probably due to the post-holiday retail doldrums.  The PS Vita sales numbers are getting the most attention for falling behind the PSP, which isn’t making way for Sony’s newer handheld.

Key Titles Missing From PSP/Vita Transfer Program

Mega publishers not on board with transfer program just yet.

Sony’s new PlayStation Vita won’t be supporting the PSP’s UMD format which has made backward’s compatibility a bit of an issue for the handheld.  The proposed solution to this sticky issue was to charge gamers a reduced price to download digital copies of their PSP collection – a solution that has only been announced for Japan.  Whether or not this is particularly savvy business practice is debatable, but what is sure to spark even further controversy is the absence of some major titles from the transfer program.
