Street Fighter X Tekken Review

Fighting on the go is fun… as long as you don’t plan on taking it online.

As usual, resident PixlBit fighting game expert, Jon “JD” Lewis, has done an excellent job reviewing Street Fighter X Tekken when it released some months ago on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. After a short delay, the game has finally made its way to the PlayStation Vita, where I finally had an opportunity to check it out. Sadly, much of what JD complained about back then still persists today, especially the oft-laggy online mode and the slightly misguided gem system.

Serious Sam 3: BFE Review

Click, click boom.

In 2001, the original Serious Sam was already late to the first-person shooter party id Software started, but its gameplay was still familiar because id's classics such as Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, and Quake were still fresh memories. In 2012, Serious Sam 3: BFE is a complete anomaly, following neither the artsy nor military styles which now pervade the genre.

Hotline Miami Review

It's times like these when I'm happy to know that Jack Thompson was disbarred.

There’s no denying that social media has transformed the way we get information about video games, especially when it comes to smaller indie titles. I had never heard of the game Hotline Miami until my Twitter feed began to blow up with hyperbolic praise. It was one of the best games of the year! The best soundtrack in the history of video games! The most fun to be had in the digital space…ever. So when we got a review code for the game I jumped all over it, eager to learn what all the fuss was about. Now I’m sitting at my computer and scratching my head, wondering if I missed something, or if I need some of what the people I follow on Twitter are smoking.

N7 Day: What Mass Effect Means to Me

Julian gets nostalgic for his Commander Shepard on BioWare's made up PR day.

It’s November 7th, which is a very important day. No, no, not the fact that the Presidential election is over; I’m talking about vital, pressing issues. Yes friends, today is national N7 Day, so I thought I’d take some time to wax nostalgic about the Mass Effect series and what it’s meant to me. It’s no secret around PixlBit that I’m a pretty rabid Mass Effect fan. Heck, I hosted an entire podcast about the series. With the trilogy wrapped up in a neat little bow (more or less), what better day to shine a light on the saga of Commander Shepard?

To The Moon Review

Barely a game, but that doesn't make it any less of an experience.

To the Moon created a bit of buzz a few months ago. Originally released in 2011 through the author, Kan Gao’s website, the game acquired a cult following. People who played the game praised it, claiming that it had one of the best stories in gaming. Now that the game is available on Steam, even more players will be able to see if those claims were legitimate. From my time with the game, I can say that it lives up to the hype.

New Little King's Story Review

Despite the "New" moniker, this iteration of the game suffers from all the same problems.

Little King’s Story was one of the many games to see release on Wii that went mostly unnoticed. While I didn’t have an opportunity to play it myself, I did watch quite a bit of it and had always wanted to dive into my own quest. The quasi-re-release of the game on Vita as New Little King’s Story has afforded me that opportunity, and for that, I am thankful. While the little king seems to have hit his teen years, the cutesy charm and simulation/RPG elements that defined it three years ago still ring true.
