I Don't Post Here Nearly Enough

Im back once again after a long break. I've been meaning to post here a lot more, but im lazy. Apologies if I haven't responded to anyones comments on earlier blogs, but it seems a bit late now. I do read them though.

Anyway life has been kind of a roller coaster for me over the past few years with various medical issues. I probably shouldn't get into some of those, but i've not only got a non-cancerous tumor on the nerve between my foot bone, but I was also diagnosed with epilepsy as well. Needless to say both suck and have severely restricted what I can work. Thankfully my parents have been great and have helped me out a lot.

On the gaming front not much has changed. My collection has grown some, I got myself both an XBox One S, as well as a PS4 Pro. I also managed to track down a brand new Mario Kart 8 Wii U bundle and paid just under $280 for it at the Kohls where I work. To top it off I got $50 in Kohls Cash along with it which i'll likely get Pokemon Moon with. If your not aware, the Wii U has been extremely difficult to find since Dec. I've heard Nintendo recalled them but im not 100% on that. It would make sense however since they probably felt it would cut into their Switch profits. Plus, they could just use the recalled Wii U's to replaced damaged consoles people send to them.

This brings me to the Nintendo Switch itself. As you know Nintendo was pretty quiet on the whole thing until last week when they went in depth with it. I thought their presentation started off well, but it quickly turned into a mess. This was painfully obvious when they had people from 3rd party publishers speak. When the guy from Sega came out and started talking, I really thought he would show some games off, but nope. The games from Nintendo themselves mostly seemed cool. I really like the new Mario, and Arms looked cool as well. Splatoon was also good looking, but I never got into the original, so my interest in this was low to moderate (bonus points if you know what that is from :). Then came 1-2 Switch. I had zero interest in this, but thought is would be a good game to be built into the system to show off some of its features. However I was in total shock when I saw they were releasing this as a $50 game. Zelda looks amazing, but I can get this on my Wii U so I couldn't get too excited.

The launch lineup announced was poor at best. I've already gave my thoughts on 1-2 Switch, and Zelda, but the rest? Lets see, there's a new Bomber Man which I care nothing about. Skylanders Is good, but its already been out on other consoles for months. Just Dance? Another multi[latform game which I don't care about. Aside from Mario, other games were just too far off, I can get elsewhere, or just don't justify buying the system for. Come on, slightly enhanced Mario Kart 8? I've been playing that for ages on my Wii U and see no incentive in paying $60 for the new version.

To add insult to injury on the whole thing, the extra controllers are too expensive, and the system itself cost a little too much for what you get. The final nail in things was the announcement that Nintendo was charging for their online service. Their incentive seems to be free games each month like Microsoft and Sony, but from what I understand these are only old 8-16 bit games that are nothing more then rentals. Once the month is up, they take them away.

In the end Nintendo really needs to try a lot harder if they ever want to make a mark again. They seem to be clueless about how the industry has evolved and what people actually want. There's simply no real incentive to buy their new system anytime soon. Will I ever get one? Yes I will. However they really need to pick things up really fast. With the Scorpio hitting late this year, do you really think im going to be investing in a Switch instead of that? I just got a new 4K TV, so the answer is pretty obvious.

Finally i'd like to talk about the Wii U. The system get an extremely bad rap and im not sure why. Yes it also had a somewhat rocky launch with most of its games being ports of older games you could get cheaper on 360, and PS3. However it had a good variety of great titles on it. To this day i've still been extremely impressed by the quality of its first person titles. Third party support has been rather week, but I still loved a lot of the exclusives that came from it like Sonic Lost Wolrd, Rodea Sky Soldier, Tekken Tag 2, and the Skylanders series. Plus, I could play all my Wii games on it as well.

So does anyone else have any thoughts on the Switch they would like to share?

Wii-U getting hard to find? Darn it. I almost bought one last black friday. Now, I'm too worried about money to even think of getting one, much less a Switch. I hope, down the road, that I can still get a Wii-U when I have the dough.

Yeah I knew the Wii U was going to be extremely collectable, I just didn't realize how fast.

I should've gotten it at Thanksgiving. Now my budget is too tight and I'll have to wait for a miracle, or a really good month at work.

I do have my Switch and Zelda preordered.  The presentation was bad because I think they were trying to spread themselves too thin, having one video for all regions.  I don't really care what the Switch can do, I'm just getting it because Nintendo makes the majority of games I'm interested in.  Plus it'll give me more opportunities to review more games.

With that said, I will also remark that I'm glad a got a PS4 when I did (Black Friday sale).  I have a feeling it'll be my go-to system until the Switch finds its feet.

I really liked the Wii U as well.  In fact, I only now just got a PS4.  For the past three or four years, I was happy with just my Wii U, 3DS, and iPad for games (with the occaisional PS3 game).

Im really not concerned about what the Switch can do either. Im more interested in the games myself. However there really isn't anything I have to have aside from the new Mario. As I said Arms looks interesting, but its not really going to sell me on the system. I really think Nintendo is going about the entire thing all wrong.

I preordered the Switch based on a lot of games with no confirmed dates and some with. Here are the ones I would be interested in. Some are new, some already released but I'd like them in a portable format and some may never come out in North America but I can hope.

I figure the more people show support at launch the better chance we have of seeing some of these.

Great stuff is coming I know. I just see little reason to buy one at launch. Heck, aside from the new Mario, I fail to see any reason in buying one this year. I simply cannot support them at launch unless they give me a good reason to support them.

hey nice to hear from you! I hope your health improves, there's nothing quite as stressful as health problems in our selves or our loved ones.

Thanks, stress itself happens to make me much worse. After awhile something else just gives.

Hey good to see back around these parts. First off I'm glad your tumor isn't cancerous, and it is awesome you have your folks as support especially after your medical news.

Awesome pickups! I don't think I will be getting the new PS4 Pro. It's just not for me. Congrats on finding a new WiiU. Those things are damn near impossible to find out in the wild and the best part is you got yours at work so hopefully you also got your employee discount. I think the bad rap the WiiU got is because when it was released everyone compared it to the offerings by Sony and Microsoft and the specs couldn't compete.

Continuing with Nintendo the Switch was underwhelming and for a tablet it is fine, but Nintendo trying to push it as a console is crazy. I thought if they just market it as a new handheld than it would be a cool concept but the push was as a console, with expensive controllers and there are still a lot of questions about online play. Nintendo needs to figure out how to mix their line of thinking with where the market is headed/at with trophies/achievements, and strong online support instead of just banking on their huge catalog and goto properties like Mario and Zelda.

Thanks, the tumor just hurts like anything. I never thought i'd consider surgury for anything, but this just sucks. As for the Pro, its good and you can see a difference in some games. However if you already own a PS4 and don't need another then i'd say hold off. There really isn't too much taking advantage of it right now. Even Sony doesn't seem to think much of it. They don't push the thing at all. You'd figure they would at least have a demo section in the store with something to show it off, but nope.

You know you're right, I've never seen a demo unit in a store for the Pro. That is odd, I wonder if they will send them out before the holidays.

I have very little interest in the Switch.  I would like to get a Wii U some day.  I wanted to get one this past holiday season, but got an XB1 instead.  I really hope that recall isn't nation wide.  It's going to drive up the price and the Wii U was already too expensive for me.  I'll get a Wii U before I buy a Switch.

Yeah i'd get a Wii U as soon as possible. Game collecting is really big right now and since the Wii U has a smaller library it will be fairly easy for most collectors to get a complete set. If anything try and find a copy of Bayonetta 2 with the original before the value goes through the roof. Its already going for about $60 used.

I bought Bayonetta 2 w/ original a couple years ago.  It's the only Wii U game I own.  I knew that game would go up in price.  I still paid about $40 for it.
