there're good gaming laptops but they're expensive. The problem with a gaming laptop is the frequently don't cool well, and they burn themselves out when you're playing long sessions.  

I would recommend a desktop. Cheaper, more dependable, but less mobile. 

I think it would be cool if you did videos for those wii shovelware games....

yeah I think the way to go would be a desktop. All the laptops I see are somewhere between 2000 dollars  or higher for something high end. I've been thinking about going to best buy to look. 

My ASUS laptop did ok with a few 360 games like the Arkham stuff and Tomb Raider 2013, but other titles were no gos and I was always annoyed when Fez or RE4 wouldn't work when those more taxing games did. 

I'd honestly just copy Snee as far as advice, but let me know what you find. I just need a new laptop, able to run the Adobe suite, period.

Yeah my thing is I want to be able to run various things. I don't even know what all I need aside from graphiscs cards or some type of cooling added. I'm looking for something 1500-1000 dollars with both a computer and monitor

If you want a gaming pc, I'd highly recommend going for a desktop over a pc. They're more powerful for a start, but that's not why I'm suggesting them. Every gaming laptop I've had has ran into problems with either cooling or just crashing due to low memory/cpu problems. 

 If you want portability, you might want to look into Alienware's console sized PCs. I have one that is about the size of a Nintendo Wii and it's plugged into my tv and is super lightweight. They aren't the most powerful things in the world, but they will play most games pretty well, you just may have to lower the settings to medium.

  If you need a laptop though, just make sure you pay attention to things like RAM, cooling, and CPU. Remember that when you eventually want to upgrade, you're going to have to upgrade everything, so make sure you get something that will last. Do your research. That said, if you do go with Alienware (they're not the best and they can be expensive for what they are with laptops) you at least have the option to upgrade your graphics card externally later.

  So with a laptop, you want at least an i5 cpu. An i7 would be much better, but they can be costly - and you will want one if you want to record videos. You want at least 16gb of ram. Make sure not to skimp on cooling and make sure your power supply is decent. With graphics cards, gtx 1060's are cheap these days and will run most things, but with a laptop they may charge extra for something like that, so go for a 900's range nvidea graphics card or whatever the AMD equivelant is.

  Again though, graphics cards are something you can skimp on a little bit. Anything lower than a 900 and you won't really be able to play the modern PS4/Xbone quality games, but not everyone wants that. If you just want to try the indie games or some older pc classics up to last gen games, a 700s graphics card will also work. Just make sure the other specs are up to snuff or your laptop will die early.

 Really sorry if I've given you far too much info. Let me know if you need anything I've said explained. I've just been burnt by gaming laptops and I'd hate to see it happen to other people given how expensive they can be.

  Finally, you're a nintendo fan. Do yourself a favour when you get a pc, download Dolphin. Then you can play your Wii/Gamecube games at 720p or 1080p, and it really makes some of the art in those games pop. Mario Galaxy in particular looks phenomenal at a higher resolution. You can use your wiimote with your pc, or you can plug in an xbox or ps4 controller for gamecube games or wii games that use a classic controller.

Thanks for all the advice on a gaming laptop. I admit I am looking more and more to a desktop with a decent monitor. That's quite a lot to digest for laptop gaming and I see that most high end laptops cost me at least a paycheck or two. It's certainly helpful to get someone who knows about these things far more than me. I admit I'm totally clueless... I just know the laptop I have would never be able to run games with how little memory it has left. I've gotten a good five years out of it. I have often looked at getting the Dolphin emulator for pc since I first dabbled into Wii modding on the console itself, hence why I have various hacks like gecko, homebrew, and other channels. Some Wii games I've seen upscaled to dolphin do look amazing. I want to go to Best Buy and look since they have dedicated gaming pcs, they are a bit pricey though. I'm not against spending $1500, I want to make sure it works easily considering my pea brain understanding lol.

 The first one listed there is $1429 and it's a really good pc. The really good thing is that you can customise, so you can change parts to be cheaper or more expensive depending on what you want. General warning though: avoid amd processors. They make great graphics cards, but their processors generally run into a bit of trouble with some titles, and they have a lot of trouble with Dolphin. Stick with intel!

That's pretty neat. I've heard about customizing a pc and that seems like a good option. I'll definitely look at various intel steups. I really do appreciate the help.

I've been curious about streaming. Microsoft's Beam just changed names to Mixer and is something that's sounds really easy to use on XBO. It's being built right into the dashboard. Can't get easier that that. I may check it out. 

I wonder how that would work for other gaming systems. That would be worthwhile to take a look at for sure.

MS owns it now, so I'm pretty sure you can't import it to other systems but you can run it on Windows so I guess any PC game would work with it. I have to look into it further.
