What a Waste of a Bad Day

Didn't do much today. It's was one of those days where no matter how much I could do, yet I ended up just procastinating... on Reddit no less haha. Barely even played the Witcher, or Smash.

So this year I decided that I would start to post my gaming screenshots in a forum with a dedicated thread for that purpose. I was already a lurker for quite some time. Some of these individuals put quite a bit of effort to take those shots. Others don't. It's a nice community. Good, or bad shots. It comes down to subjectivity, and we're not professionals afterall. It's a learning experience for me.

Just like real life photography there are tools that can be used. Personally I just use Nvidia's integrated tool, Ansel. It's simple enough for my needs. Others like to use more sophisticated tools that were made just for the purpose of breaking through limits that games impose in order to get a great shot.

Recently I had seen one of the posters show a few shots that were panoramic. I thought they looked great, so I decided to give a go. I made several batches; some were taken by moving the camera set in that spot and shifting it from left to right, and the others were taken by gliding the camera horizontally across the plane. That was easy. Now comes the hard part haha. Putting each batch together, and make it look like they were stitched together without any blemishes... Oh boy, did I learn a lesson. It's not that simple. I realised that each shot after the first one would have had to be taken in quite the elaborate way that it would just end up being a drain of time, patience, and also I would need better tools to assist me. There's got to be a better way, I thought. I think I had seen digital cameras with the option to take panoramic photos, so there must be some sort of software out there that could help me just as much. Screw asking the people from that thread haha, I had to figure this out on my own. Sometimes I can be quite prideful. I ended up trying Hugin. It was alright, but I wasn't satisfied with the results. I tried another one, Autostitch. Very simple to use, but I didn't like that it only allowed shots to be saved as JPEG. I ain't giving up. I notice that Microsoft has something with an acronym, I.C.E. Image Composite Editor. I did notice that some of the posters from that thread did note that some of their shots had been through a tool named ICE, but I thought it was just one of those amateur tools. Didn't think Microsoft gave away such a tool for free, but it is, and it's the real deal. Tested it out on a throwaway batch. Glorious. I am happy haha.

That was the highlight of my day.

Also I did narrow down the number of Spirits left to unlock in Smash to 6. From 6 challenges. I think I could possibly do it. I'm sure a couple of them are going to be annoyingly tough to beat.

Here's my treat for having read through my ramble... More Witcher 3 screenshots!

Instead of Wild Hunt it should have been subtitled as Sky Hunt.

Panoramics are great for those landscape shots. Being a console player, I just use Xbox One's screen shot function but I often have problems uploading them to OneDrive, which should never be since OneDrive is a MS app. Today I just used my phone to copy the screen shot so I could upload it.

The X1 doesn't allow you to upload screenshots anywhere else? Like Flickr, or something?

I could do Twitter, but I found a better way. I just sign into my Xbox Live account on PC, and there are my recent screen grabs. Snipper tool, do your work. Funny thing though, the file disappeared from my Onedrive immediately after I linked it to the blog here on Pixlbit. Strange.

Oh that works just as well haha. Onedrive is quite the suspect, huh?

It's been great, except for video, so far. That snipped file was much smaller in file size than any other image on my OneDrive, I wonder if that had anything to do with it.
