Xbox One: The Embodiment of the American Dream

I wish I was here to blog about stuff like Bayonetta 2, Final Fantasy XV, Kingdom Hearts 3, Super Smash Bros. 4 or any actual games. I'm not blogging to talk about any of the amazing things we saw at the this year's E3. I'm just here to reiterate a point you've probably heard one thousand times before, but it's a point that I believe bears repeating and should be spoken by every one who has a voice.

Yes I'm talking about Xbox One DRM, and no I'm not going to explain what it is or how it works. I think that many of you know what its all about, and those that don't should look around the internet and see the way Microsoft is trying to tell us that its for our own good. The delusions of people who try to rationalize and it how it's just part of business. I'm not going to post links or anything and you should just #DealWithIt

Well i suppose i could explain how it works through this helpful and informative diagram.

This here explains my core problem with the Xbox One DRM. It has nothing to do with used games, free market whatever. Out of the money I've spent on games these past  two three years I'd say I've spent maybe 1% of what i spent on games total on used games and traded in less than ten games total. So it doesnt effect me personally at all. What does affect me is how this fucking thing (that costs five hundred fucking dollars) has to babysit my account every twenty-four hours to make sure I didn't steal any of the games that I spent the money I earned myself on.

It's insultiing on so many levels. I've NEVER pirated a game, I'm not trying to steal any of their precious money. I've done nothing to deserve having them treat me like a goddamn theif. We have given them money for years, and supported them. They would be NOTHING without us, and now they want to treat us the same as the people who steal from them. Thanks Microsoft.

The Xbox One is everything that is wrong with businesses today. It puts money before the consumer. It doesnt care who it fucks over as long as its precious money is safe from theives. It's a disgusting business model I will never support, and I urge you all to do the same. This is not the direction any industry should be taken in. Not now, not EVER.

At least we still have Sony who loves their consumers. And heck, except for like, one or two games, any game not on the PS4 will be available on the PC, and in some cases 360. Not the best solution, but a solution nonetheless. Still, Sony ftw.

I can't believe it's come to this. The whole thing makes me sick. What happened to buying a game and actually owning it? These games are nothing more than glorified installation discs. There's no permanence with the Xbone. None. You are basicly paying out the ass to rent games. Once M$ servers shut down say goodbye to anything you bought associated with the X1. Hopefully the Xbone will utterly fail, and these horrific business practices will never see the light of day again.

Like I said they basically make you feel like you're stealing from them even though you bought the fucking thing.

I hate the MS pays keep games off of PS and at besbuy was stealing customers away from Nintendo by hosting their own events in Bestbuys too. Now they are fucking with our games as well as  people.

The apologists for M$ that I've been reading all fall into two categories.

1. That bully didn't beat us up too badly, let's continue to give them our lunch money.

2. I'm alright Jack, I've got mine. Translation: I (or in most cases my mummy and daddy) have superfast internet that is always on or I throw a tantrum and I (or my mummy and daddy) have so much money I don't care if I can't lend, sell or trade my games without the express permission of Der Fuhrer because I use them for coasters afterwards. Poor people suck anyway.

Sometimes they fall into both categories in which case they are well on their way to a job at Microsoft.

I've gotten some people try telling me its just business. I really don't know how it can be good business to piss off and treat your consumer base like garbage

Xbone can kiss my white ass i have been a loyale Xbox 360 gamer for 4 years and was really looking forward toward a nex Xbox 720 which could play 360 games or 720 games and play on or off line. What i got was a sysrem with an identity crisis ran by a bunch of idiots who think we need to be watched like the pirates they think we are, so with that said a PS4 is looking pretty sweet to me right now.

I've been with them since the original Xbox. Got a 360 near launch. A lot of us have bought their games and consoles yet they want to treat us like garbage

Ya know theres no reason for it and no excuse and the sad thing is i really like Xbox live and the market place etc, and i cant help but wonder are they going to continue the same price for Xbox live on the 360 and will servers still be up on the 360 after Xbones launch or should i say i wonder how long Xbox live will be on the 360.

Beautifully said,Kay. I'm pro PS4 all the way even though I will not be able to afford one soon. The fact there are "microsoft apologists" is kind of a bummer though. I mean even if someone is despicably rich do they really want a console that becomes a plastic paperweght when the intenet goes down & when said console is no longer supported?

Kayshire Cat

I honestly want to know what they will do if/when XBL gets hacked. What if it gets hacked launch week?

So does that mean Sony's a ninja? Let's see, they held out on announcing their better policies before a surprise attack that made the internet hate the One.

Yup, Sony's a ninja. Well, guess that's two debates settled.

Kayshire Cat

Heh thats probably what Sony had in mind. Let MS dig the hole as deep as possible before they let their policies be known

Piracey isn't exactl;y accessable to many people anyhow, Both Sony and Microsoft should accept that a percentage (a very small percentage) of people will copy games, but ultimately they'll always make a killing. Poor performance in the past has always been attributed to the failings of the company either through poor release scehdule, faulty system, modern problems such as account hacking. Both Sony and Microsoft should stop pissing so much of their resources in fucking over the consumer and spend it sorting out their services.

Console piracy is a lot harder than PC piracy. It's from a small number of users yet they want to treat everyone of us like them

Not a fan of Microsoft and there money sponge tactics anyway. But I truly believe their arrogance is going to be their downfall on this. They should go ahead and rename it the Titanic Box or the Hindenburg Box.

Can't see it lasting long when their responses to any and all criticism amounts to "#dealwithit"

This is all spot-on. The Xbox One's design isn't about customer service, it's all about Microsoft. If a game system thinks I need to be supervised when I'm playing games I bought, I don't need it. If I wanted a supervisor looking over my shoulder, I'd just stay at my job 24/7. And my boss doesn't ride my ass nearly as much as Microsoft does.

This actually is a point that I haven't seen raised anywhere else. Many others have focused on how the console is anti-used games. That said, it is absolutely true that MS is treating everyone like a potential pirate. Even if these policies are changed, I can't see myself supporting some one who even considered such a distorted view of its customers.

06/14/2013 at 04:54 AM

Agreed. I just hope that other people see through Microsoft's anti-consumer policies and take a stand. Not even Halo can save the console as it stands. Other than that, what other exclusive franchises do they have? Not many. Those apologists that are online can't damage control this atom bomb. With everything wrong with the Xbone, they won't get any of my money.

It's important for console makers to make sure that the publishers can get as much money as they can, but NOT at the expense of the consumer.

I have no plans to buy a XBO.  And the funny part is, someone's going to figure out how to pirate games on the thing anyway. Laughing

What befuddles my mind about this is that Microsoft has some terrific game studios and teams working with them and they will be utterly trampled on because of the stupid XBO like Twisted Pixel. Even worst, is the situation with Project CD Red and The Witcher 3. How do you not only screw over a developer who sworn off DRM practices but not even have the damn console be released where developers are stationed at developing a game for YOUR console?! That blows my mind. The XBO is a no for me.

a capitalism, it's a grand thing unless it's used poorly.

We have to admit it, all of us were pirates in one form or another. If you didn't pirate a game I'm sure you dressed up as a pirate. that looks to be enough to justify the Xbox One's DRM. Who would've though pirates would be in this year..
