Ok people, the point of this blog is to point out 5 games which I loved, yet the masses seemed to hate. Now im sure I can think of more then 5, but im only gonna talk about 5 right now. Some of these games were either ignored by the mainstream gaming press either because the reviewers didn't play them enough, or because they weren't some big budget titles with a big name attached. At least that is my opinion.

1# Summoner (PS2): While this launch RPG was reviewed poorly, and based by many, I loved it. Sure the characters may have looked a little zombie like, and there was a lot of pop up, but this game was great. You see, once you looked all that, you'll find a very deep and involved RPG. Yes I even liked the combat system which was also bashed a lot. Sadly I never beat the game. Far into it I came across what I believe is a game killing glitch. Its been awhile, but if I recall it had something to do with talking to someone to get an item, or give an item too. Someday im gonna start this game up again and beat it. A sequel was released on both PS2, and Gamecube. Despite it being a good game, and better reviewed, I actually enjoyed the first one more.

2# Roadsters (N64): What can I say about this game except that its pure racing joy on the N64. From the amazing graphics to the tight control this racer is just too good. If I could pick a single flaw in it I would have to say its the annoying characers. However that is it. This game was also released on the PS1, and the Dreamcast. While im unsure how the PS1 version plays, its average at best on the DC. Sure the game may look a little prettier, but that is it. It doesn't control as well and its just not as fun despite being a little different of a game.

3# Ford Racing 2 & 3 (PS2): Yes im aware these are 2 seperate titles, but to me I consider it 1 game split in 2 parts since their both so similar. Anyway, if you like arcade style racers, this is one of the best in my opinion. Back when these were released I recall game mags and sites bashing these titles as bargain bin garbage. Yes they were originally released at budget prices, but that doesn't mean they were bad games. While these games aren't as deep as say a Gran Turismo game, I had a lot more fun with them then Gran Turismo 4 and its horrid controls.

4# Nightcaster (XBox): This was one of those early XBox titles that got trashed all over. However like the other titles on this list I really enjoyed it. I do admit my memory is a little hazy on the game, but I do recall it being a very fun action game with some pretty cool spell effects. A sequel was also released, but that game was a major let down to me. A shame too since I was really looking forward to it before it was released.

5# Gauntlet Dark Legacy (PS2): I own well over 200 PS2 games and I would easily put this title in the top ten of PS2 titles I own. As much as I loved Gauntlet Legends on N64, this one blows it away with tons more content and gameplay. The game itself captures the Gauntlet personality perfectly, but it magnifies it times 100. Its got tons of levels, characters, and amazing multiplayer. This is one game I really wish they would do an HD remake of and add online play too. Im also aware this game was released on Gamecube and XBox, but i've never played those versions so I can't comment on them.

So, anyne else here have any titles that they really enjoyed but were bashed by the mainstream?

Never heard of these.  Summoner sounds cool though.

I love the game "The Last Remnant".  It got trashed when it came out, and the Xbox 360 version was a little broken (I beat it anyway) but the PC version is GREAT.  I love that damn game.

Gauntlet is one my favorite games on the gamecube. It was so much fun with friends. It was like the console Diablo. With dark legacy, there were so many levels. My favorite was the amount of characters you could choose from like the classic RPG classes, but you also had all the different ones like the Jester and Minotaur. The jester's pet was a flying pig, how awesome is that.

I think the biggest game for me that was bashed by the mainstream was Gotcha Force for the Gamecube. It was pretty much Pokemon, but instead of monsters they were toys. You would create a team of toys to battle other toys. So much fun. One of my favorite games of all time.

Oh man, glad to see someone knows about Ford Racing. I remember having the third game and enjoying every minute of it, and the love I had for cars and especially Ford cars added to the enjoyment factor.

As far as bashed games or atleast that people don't seem to care, I think I could probably include Sonic Riders and its sequel Zero Gravity (not sure about the Kinect game as I had never played it). Once you get the hang of the controls, they are very interesting racing games. I would include Skyward Sword, but that's more of a divided opinion issue.

I picked up Summoner, Summoner 2 and Nightcaster a while back and want to go play them. I played Gauntlet: Dark Legacy on the Xbox co-op with a friend and had a blast with it.

One game that got mediocre reviews which I totally loved and completed 100% on both PS2 and Xbox versions was Urban Chaos: Riot Response. This game's controls were very tight and the missions tense and fast paced. You had fire fighter gear too and had to rescue people, adding another element to the gameplay. After that I started following the developer Rocksteady, and we all know what they ended up doing: Batman Arkham Asylum and City. Love those guys.urbanchsos

I still use the Burner taunts from time to time. Those got drilled into my head playing this game.

Years ago I got Ford Racing 2 or 3 or maybe both from my in-laws for Christmas and I remember you telling me you thought they were good games.  I still hadn't played that games.  Not because I think they're bad, but because I hadn't got to them and pretty much forgot them. Foot in Mouth  When I get back to playing games on my PS2, I'll have to pull it.  Those other games I your list, I don't own.  If I see them, I'll check them out.

A Bug's Life.  Granted I was a lot younger when I played it, and I did not have many other options to choose to play instead.  I was stuck choosing between playing A Bug's Life and NBA 98.  I am not a fan of sports games, so I played and enjoyed A Bug's Life.  I have no desire to go back and ruin my memories because I know that it is a piece of crap.

Haven't played any of these. I considered Summoner but I can almost guarantee the reviews drove me away from that.

Having played Front Mission Evolved a few months ago, this is the most obvious example of a game I loved and everyone else hated. To be fair, there are surprising amount of people who like it. I guess that's because the game is really fun and the crappy graphics and story don't actually matter!

Ford Racing ive seen but never thought it was any good given the branding, as if it was just a cash run. I might reconsider if I see it again, I need more racing titles on my PS2. Wonder if the game is B/C with the PS3.
