Backlog Blog: Don't Call it a Comeback!

So I've been eerily quiet in the months away. I think it's because I work 6 days a week for 12 hour days sometimes....nah...that's not it lol Anyways first I want to congratulate XDarthKillX...for the inquiry in getting a  free club Nintendo gold game from me since I didn't have a use for it...hopefully it worked out for you.

So because of work I have a huge backlog of things to talk about. First, I would like to take the time to scold Nintendo a bit. Your DLC announcement for Mario Kart 8 is $12 too much. I thought perhaps that it was all too good to be true. First the free game, then free Mercedes-Benz DLC, then you hit me with the whammy. Why not just have a Super Nintendo Kart already? I shouldn't have to pay for Zelda and Animal Crossing characters in addition to 8 different color swaps of Yoshi and Shy Guy. Now I know what you're going to say...it's the industry nowadays.

Well guess what...I HATE DLC...I hate when it is already on disc and you have to pay extra for it...and I hate demos being passed into retail for money. I hate games that get HD remasters from something that literally is still pretty damn recent. Oh and Tales of Xillia 2...I hate you too.

Xillia 2 is a good game. Don't get me wrong the battle system is fluid, I love the characters, etc. But it's a lazy effort from Namco Bandai. It's not as lazy as say Tales of Symphonia's sequel Dawn of the New World...but it can be quite irratating. While the problem with DoTNW was the main characters, terrible story, and recycled environments...Xillia 2 introduces a debt system and recycled environments. I find it...tedious...That's about the best way I can sum it up. Sure it has good aspects about it by offering you alternatives to things you may not have initially done and that's fine and dandy....but you make a grindfest rpg even more grindy.

Meanwhile, I've got Hyrule Warriors reserved...to put this into perspective...I haven't reserved a Dynasty Warriors style game ever. Heck I don't even play Warrior games. In fact I have only 2. One is Samurai Warriors 3...and Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper....both together maybe cost me $20. Again I'm not counting Samurai Warriors:Katana...because that was just a failed awful experiment. Stick to what you know Tecmo Koei!

Other than that I guess that I just have to work on my backlog of games. I have like 8 to beat before I even think about getting more games, but that probably won't stop me. Anyways thanks for reading. Comments and feedback are always appreciated!

$12 for 16 new tracks sounds like a pretty good deal to me.  If all you care about it is the ability to play as Link and the Animal Crossing character then I guess it is a waste of money.

I just feel that with the announcement there was a bit of a we got you moment from Nintendo. I mean we'll never see a GoTY edition with everything included when or if ever a price drop happens. I feel like more tracks should have been included in the first place which is a whole new gripe for me lol.

1.  How do you know that Nintendo will not release a GoTY edition of Mario Kart 8?  I know that it is a Nintendo game and they keep their value long after they are released.(I remember seeing Twilight Princess at full price 4 years after it was released.)

2.  I remember a time when you had to pay full price for a new set of 16 courses whenever the next game was released.  So, not having to wait 5-6 years for a new collection of tracks is awesome news to me.

3.  I do not necessarily agree with your statement that this content should have been in the game to begin with.  I agree that Link and the Animal Crossing should have, but I highly doubt that any company would sit on content for 6-10 months before releasing it as DLC.  I would assume that they decided to work on this DLC after they saw how many units MK8 sold and decided that it would be worth their time to make additional content.  If a game sells like crap I cannot see DLC doing it any good.

4.  I wanted to clarify and say that in the end, I am not the biggest fan of DLC.  There are certain cases where I believe it to be acceptable and welcome.  This is one of them.  I say that because there has typically been a 5-6 year wait between console entries.  If the next one takes that long to come then I would be happy to have an extra set of tracks to keep things interesting.

5.  Remember that my opinions are clearly wrong.

1. You know I think if Nintendo released a GOTY edition it would be pretty cool.  I more or less base it on Nintendo's staying power of their franchise games such as this. If that's true than continual DLC would make more sense until the next Mario Kart. I read somewhere they might be doing a season pass type thing.

2. I like the lesser wait too and 16 new tracks could be a great thing. I'm just wondering if they'll continue to support it with more tracks, characters, and updates. If they can do this surely we can have voice chat between friends.

3 & 4. I don't know about companies sitting on content. I think with things such as day 1 dlc nowadays and disc locked content that it's feasible...whether or not Nintendo sat on the dlc or not I have no idea. I would like to think they didn't because that would make me more upset.

5. Hey no sweat man. My opinions are usually wrong too. Ya know what they say about opinions lol. I just like to promote level headed discussion.

I don't know how I feel about the Mario Kart DLC or Nintendo doing DLC period.  But like Transmet said, 16 new tracks does sound nice.

I just feel a bit slighted from Nintendo with the announcement like oh by the way here are 16 new tracks we could have initially put in at the beginning! It's probably just me, but thats how I felt with the announcement.

yeah i think that's the general argument against DLC, why couldn't they just put it on the disc.  Room certainly isn't an issue.  I guess it's just the nature of having everything connected to the internet now that they can have things such as day one patches and lame DLC.

Well I think recently Nintendo is trying to compete more in ventures that are the norm now. I mean look at the 'new' 3DS or amiibo. Heck I've said that Nintendo was the first innovator in the practice what with multiple game boy editions that are just different colors, add ons to systems that don't have any real use outside of two games, and re-releases of games you've played before. Think about how mind blowing that is lol.

No problem at all. I hope you are enjoying the game!

Beyond the DLC, i'm more concerned about the new 3DS. I support the idea, but not the fact that it'll make the past consoles obsoletes.

yeah the 'new' 3DS bothers me in a whole different aspect because it's yet another unessecary upgrade. I mean when they made the 2DS I was baffled...like how hard is it to turn the slider off...and now it's 'new' 3DS leaves me with more questions than answers

Theres some love there in the blog...you just have to look reallly closely lol. Too be honest I just more or less hate the direction Nintendo is taking with whole DLC, amiibo, new 3DS, etc.

I have Hyrule Warriors reserved, too.  I got a blue scarf based on the one Link wears at PAX.

That's cool! I ordered from best buy because I like the fact that you get different skin packs from them. Though again...I'm not sure how I feel about splitting the skin packs in the first place or even the point of having them.

The costumes you get from reserving the game at different stores is a little silly, and I don't really care much about them anyway.  BUT, with that said, I reserved mine from Amazon so I could get Twilight Princess costumes. :)

Yeah it's all a bit silly as I don't see any use to them either. But I know some people who would go nuts at that. Still on the other hand the geek in me thinks it's nifty lol.
