Overview: Mega Man Classic

Posted on 03/19/2013 at 09:31 PM | Filed Under Blogs

Nice write-up!  I just recently finished playing through MM 1 - 6 on NES (what can I say? I'm a sucker for doing things in order), and I felt like MM6 held up a lot better than I remembered.  Maybe it was because I had just finished MM5 (which is pretty boring, overall), but I liked how smoothly playable it was... It was nice to breeze through a MegaMan game after some of the harder parts in the earlier games.  Also, the first MM game to have branching paths?  Unless a GameBoy game did it that I'm missing...

That, and the jetpack.  Awesome.  I really dug how the X/Wily stages were designed around your ability to use the jetpack properly, much like MegaMan 2's Wily stages forced you to use the 1, 2, 3 power-ups.

So you are playing nes, you press the jump button and it does not work?? Wait!! don't break that controller just yet!!

Oh, good!  :)  I swore by the blowing-in-the-cartridge method myself, for quite some time. Also the mash-the-cartridge-into-the-NES-as-hard-as-I-can method.  Neither one worked very well...

Oh no!  Hope y'all are kidding about blowing on the cartridges!  It can mess them up...

Great blog, very helpful. I look forward to giving my controllers this treatment next weekend.

"Power Blade is a non-linear action platformer that takes the challenge of Contra, the spectacular level design of Castlevania III and the non-linear style of Mega Man and melds the gameplay of all three into one tight little package."

0_0  .... what.

Great list!  I've only played Crystalis.  Time to change that!

Big News!

Man, what a great reminder that I'm missing out on some awesome looking games!  Love the artwork.  Still waiting to take a plunge on a 3DS or Wii U, but this is sweetening the deal!

You know, I'm a huge gaming music listener, and I've never really listened to Yuzo Koshiro at all, beyond Streets of Rage 2?  I played ActRaiser back in the day, but never really took note of the soundtrack.  I'll be sure to check out Protect Me Knight.  I've been wanting to play Etrian Odyssey 4, but haven't taken the plunge on a 3DS yet; I heard his soundtrack for that one is amazing.

Thank you for commenting!  Glad to see you over here on PB.

Ooooh, Fistful of Quarters is substantially more awesome than Indie Game: The Movie; worth it's own blog post.  Those guys could not have invented a better villain than Billy Mitchell.  Indie Game is sweet, but Fistful of Quarters... whew!  Fantastic!

Super Meat Boy should be available on Steam, but you'll definitely want a controller to play it.

Thank you for the positive comment!  :)

Nice!  I had never heard of Break Quest, but I love me some Arkanoid, so it sounds like I'll be a fan.  Thanks for the tip!  And you should totally check out Super Meat Boy. :)

That's a good reminder that I need to check those out.  I've heard great things about FTL, but I know next-to-nothing about Binding of Isaac except that it's supposed to be good.
