Mega Man 11 Hands On Preview

The Blue Bomber is back!

It’s exciting to finally be playing a new mainline Mega Man game, especially after the whole debacle with Mighty No. 9. While I actually enjoyed what MN9 had to offer and thought it was a capable Mega Man clone, nothing is quite like the real thing. When Capcom surprise sprung on us last week that the demo was available on the eShop (as well as the PlayStation and Xbox store fronts) I couldn’t dive in quickly enough. Featuring just one robot master, Block Man, we were given a small glimpse into what the game will have to offer and I walked away impressed and even more excited for the full release.

Marvel Heroes Hands On Preview

True believers, I present an MMO worth your consideration.

I love super heroes and I love video games so naturally whenever there is a combination of the two, I get excited. Though the results aren’t always favorable, there are a host of games that do our heroes justice. MMOs on the other hand have been a different beast, mainly hitting their stride a few years back with City of Heroes. Last year, DC took their chances in the MMO space with DC Universe Online, which has had decent success. While that game operates much like you would expect, Marvel has enlisted Gazillion Entertainment to helm their super powered MMO. Headed by Diablo creator David Brevick, Marvel Heroes combines elements from dungeon crawlers like Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and the Diablo franchise to create something that has the potential to be great.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Hands On Preview

This ain't your daddy's Metal Gear!

I was really worried about Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. It was originally known as Metal Gear Solid: Rising, and was announced in 2009 as an Xbox 360 exclusive. A troubled and protracted development cycle almost ended in cancellation before the project was given over to Platinum Games. We may never know the full story about how an Xbox 360 exclusive designed by an in-house team hand-picked by Hideo Kojima became a multiplatform game developed by Platinum, but I can at least say that my worries are gone. Metal Gear Rising may not be what people have come to expect from the Metal Gear series, but so far I’d say it’s an impressive game in its own right.

Mutant Mudds Preview

Classic action-platforming with a 3D twist.

While not many have had the opportunity to play the Virtual Boy, Renegade Kid’s latest work is oddly reminiscent of Nintendo’s misfit system. Back when the Virtual Boy launched, it touted its special 3D capabilities; these boiled down to little more than multiple viewing planes, which gave the illusion of 3D. The most memorable games used these multiple planes to create deeper platforming experiences. Taking a cue from these experiences, Mutant Mudds allows players to jump between the current plane, background, and foreground.

Mario Kart 7 Hands On Preview

Updated impressions of one of this year's most anticipated 3DS titles: Mario Kart 7.

One thing resonated with the bunch of us “comic con goers” when it came to Mario Kart 7; the game is incredibly smooth and incredibly fun. There really isn’t much to say about it other than the fact that it aims to yet again provide an insanely addictive handheld driving experience. As stated in my E3 preview, players at the beginning are allowed to pick a driver, customize car parts from wheels to body and glider type, then the race begins. While it's currently unknown what most of these car parts do, it’s safe to say that they will have some type of effect on either the speed or weight of the kart.

Mass Effect 3 Hands On Preview

A prime example of how good games get better.

With Mass Effect 3 on the horizon, the overall hype meter is slowly building and for good reason; the game is filled with improvments, additions and an overall polish that clearly shows the right way to go about making a sequel.

Snake's first five games packaged together under one box.

Konami is rebuilding Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater from the ground up with a few modern additions, like achievements/trophies and updated button configurations. They will also have icons, sound effects, and fonts upgraded to HD, plus a frame rate locked at a steady 60 frames per second.

Madden NFL Football Preview

There’s no Franchise mode or multiplayer, but you can draw out your own plays from the line of scrimmage with the touch screen – oh yeah, and that whole stereoscopic 3D thing.

Showing up at the party early, Madden NFL Football is jumping its typical release schedule to be available for the 3DS launch. Unlike most titles in the series, the game doesn’t bear the year in the title, making it somewhat of a special release. As such, the game isn’t quite as complete as the typical yearly Madden release. Based on the 2011 roster, the game does offer a variety of gameplay modes, but lacks both multiplayer and the series’ trademark Franchise mode.
