The Last Story Preview

Goin' out on a high note.

In just a few months, Nintendo's Wii U will push aside the Wii from store shelves, its memory will begin to fade from our gaming consciousness, and that little blue light will shine no more. With one last epic RPG The Last Story coming out this week, it's not a bad way to die.

Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two Preview

The mouse and rabbit unite! No,not that rabbit.

Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two has something to prove. The first game created divided opinions, and the announcement of a sequel wasn't exactly highly anticipated. However, a sequel is just what Junction Point is creating, and the return of Mickey aims to appeal to a wider audience by fixing the issues of the first game while also bringing the world of Wasteland to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in addition to the Wii.

FIFA Soccer 13 Preview

Finally, the player can talk back.

In a defensive style at their E3 press conference, Electronic Arts announced FIFA 13 for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 with Kinect. Like a penalty kick, you probably did not see this one coming since last year.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Preview

How Skyward Sword is getting even the most jaded Zelda players excited again.

When it comes to franchise fatigue, the first game that springs to mind is the Legend of Zelda series. Sure, we don’t get a new adventure starring Link every year like, say, Assassin’s Creed or Call of Duty, but I’ve been controlling a mute, green tunic-wearing elf since 1987. I played pretty much every major release in the series until Wind Waker, and I’m just tired of the formula. I don’t think it’s controversial to say that anymore, either; more and more, I hear criticisms of repetition and stale gameplay leveled at the Zelda games. With that being said, you can understand why I was perfectly fine with ignoring the upcoming Skyward Sword and moving on with my life. And yet, somehow I found myself pre-ordering the Limited Edition of the game last week. How did that happen?

Disney Universe Initial Impressions

Our review copy is in, come get an idea of what the latest title from Disney is all about.

It's a beautiful thing when review copies arrive early. Unfortunately, for Disney Universe we are embargoed from releasing our review any earlier than its release day, Tuesday, October 25. However, I can talk a little bit about the game in the meantime.

The Wii's swan song shows the system's unknown potential - Updated with footage!

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is most likely on every hardcore Wii fan's wish list. It's for good reason, too: the Zelda series' iconic music and gameplay has continued to inspire and innovate over its 25 years of existence. Skyward Sword is no exception.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land Hands On Preview

While at E3, I found the time to play Kirby's upcoming new title, Kirby Wii.

The newest Kirby console title, Kirby Wii, brings Kirby back to a world less composed of fibers and more of dreams. That's right, Kirby is, without a doubt, back in Dream Land, offering similar stage design and gameplay to that found in modes like DynaBlade and Revenge of the Meta Knight in Kirby's Super Star.

Driver: San Francisco Hands On Preview

An impressive re-creation of San Francisco and a city full of cars to crash. What's not to like?

The creators of Driver San Francisco have digitized the city using a combination of Google Maps and their own photographs. While they did have to redesign some of the less-interesting roads, Marin County, Chinatown, the Castro district and everything in between are all there. I would've liked to have checked out the bridge but everything seemed so big and a few areas were locked that I just decided to play a few missions and mess around in free drive mode.

Disney Universe Hands On Preview

Jason Ross stopped by the extravagant Disney Interactive booth to play a bit of the upcoming multiplatform title, Disney Universe.

Let me begin by saying the Disney Interactive booth was most certainly one of the most expansive booths at all of E3 this year. There were two main sections aside from the meeting areas, and they were some of the most elaborate and colorful E3 areas here. On one side, was a Phineas and Ferb coffee house, where Disney elected to give away free flavored coffee. Don't ask me how it was, I don't drink coffee, sorry! The other side was made to look like the interior of a house: There was a kitchen, with custom Mickey Mouse and Disney magnets, a computer area, where E3 guests could try out a Disney computer title or two, and then a living room-type area, where Cars 2, Disney Universe, and a few other titles were on display.

Centipede: Infestation Hands On Preview

Humans are involved, but it's not what you think.

WayForward Technologies is remaking the arcade classic on Wii and 3DS with 3D environments and new features. No longer limited by an invisible ceiling like in the original, players can run all around the enclosed arenas with the nunchuk while aiming the Wii remote and blasting away with the B button. Thus far in the game's development, the only other move is a stomp (done with A or C) and the D-Pad is for changing weapons. Whether there will be a jump to aid in dodging or exploration/adventure elements is still undecided at this point. I saw very few mushrooms and destructible barriers; hopefully they'll be added in the next several months of development.
