Mario Sports Mix Website Reveals New Characters

The Japanese website received an update yesterday revealing a large amount of new information.

Final Fantasy characters top the list of new Mario Sports Mix additions revealed yesterday. Alongside the new characters comes a showcase of stages and special moves.

The Black Mage, White Mage, Ninja, Moogle, Cactaur, and Miis are the newest additions to the character roster for Mario Sports Mix. Those familiar with Mario Hoops 3 on 3 will recognize these Square Enix alumni from the DS title.

Interestingly enough, alongside the website's character update, a few copyrights were added to the bottom of the page. Unsurprisingly, Final Fantasy copyrights have been added. The real news? A Dragon Quest copyright was included, though there appears to be no Dragon Quest content visible on the Japanese site at this time.

Visit the Japanese Mario Sports Mix website to check out the new additions to the special attacks and stages, or to get a better look at the new characters.

Our Take

I think there's still a possibility of more secret characters, as the Mario Hoops website revealed the Final Fantasy characters before the game was released but not the other secret ones. I'd think they'd at least want to match the number of characters in the DS game...

Additionally, I'm disappointed to see the same Final Fantasy characters as the DS game. If they must shoehorn in characters that don't belong, at least use new ones. Though this is really a missed opportunity, as I'd think the only Square characters that Mario fans want to see are Mallow and Geno, and possibly others from Super Mario RPG.

I think you missed a Birdo, Jason.

True story, I actually wanted to edit in seven more "Birdo"s after I posted it, to even out the line. Right now, though, with how the "Our Take" works since it was colorized, I can't edit the post, so I couldn't. Good eye, though. I'm impressed.
