Sony Backtracks - Vita Limited to Single PSN Account

Users will have to reset to factory presets in order to use another account.

We originally reported that the Vita would be limited to a single PSN account.  Then we were told that the accounts would be tied to memory cards and not the system itself, which would allow easy account swapping between systems.  Now Sony is going back to their original story, telling us that the account is indeed attached to the Vita itself.

“[The] PSN account is tied to the hardware and the memory card, not just the card,” a different Sony representative told Wired.com, “which means that if a second person is using your Vita, it’s not just a case of switching out memory cards, it’s clearing out all of your saved data on the Vita itself when you do the factory reset.”

“In other words, PlayStation Vita is intended to be played by only one user,” the representative said.

This confirms the original story that users will have to reset to factory settings in order to use another account on the machine.

The PlayStation Vita will be released this Saturday in Japan and on February 22, 2012 in North America.

This thing sounds more and more expensive every time a new bit of news comes out on it.

This is a bummer. I plan on sharing this with my brother and I'd like us to be able to use our own profiles (which seems like a giant hassle on here). In my house, we have always shared our handhelds, so while some think these are personal devices, they never have been with me.
