Snake's Revenge Review Rewind

Revenge never tasted so bland

Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear series enjoys the distinction of being an icon that still resonates with the majority of the gaming community. Even if you've never played any of them, chances are you've at least heard of it by now. With all of the positive attention that the relatively recent Metal Gear Solid 5 has received, it’s easy to forget about the game that that could have potentially killed the series. And no-- it’s not MGS 2 (although I’ll never forgive it for those protracted conversations between Raiden and his nagging girlfriend). Nope, I'm referring to something much, much worse-- Snake's Revenge.

Nimble Quest Review

A collision of great concepts that just works.

Why in the world I keep getting suckered into buying retro-styled arcade game mash-ups is beyond me, but Nimble Quest is just going to encourage me to do it more. Mixing together the basic idea of Snake or Tron’s Light Cycles, adding a combat element,  and layering on a leveling-up mechanic got me pretty hooked on this little game originally designed for mobile devices. Nimble Quest fares well in its transition from mobile to PC (unlike a lot of titles) and it’s well worth the low price to have something on your desktop for an occasional attempt at a new high score.

Wrongful Snake: The Problem With Yet Another Metal Gear Prequel

The PixlBit staff is quite diverse in their gaming passions, and it’s one of my favorite things about writing here. In addition to being “Mr. Final Fantasy” I probably also hold the title of biggest Metal Gear Solid fanatic. Well, I might tie with Patrick Kijek, but MGS is a series that I’ve followed religiously since playing the Japanese Famitsu demo disc way back in 1998. It follows, then, that I should be beyond excited at the announcement of Metal Gear Solid 5, right? While I’m always happy to hear of another main entry in the series directed by Hideo Kojima, I just can’t muster up much enthusiasm for this one. Even the shininess of new console hardware and the Fox Engine can’t get my blood pumping. Why? Chalk it up prequel fatigue, and a longing for what could have been. (Note: The following editorial contains major spoilers for Metal Gear Solid 4. You have been warned.)

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection Review

I’m not sure 30 minute cutscenes are particularly well suited for portable play, but hey, whatever floats your boat.

It wasn’t long ago that we saw the release of Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Previews Editor, Julian Titus, was able to take the title for a spin and his review clearly indicated that this is a great collection of games. The same holds true here, but there have been a few changes in its transition to the PlayStation Vita.

Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D Review

Snake Eater has a hard time seeing the forest for the trees.

Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D is the kind of game that appeals to a very specific audience; an audience that already has unconditional love for the source material, which allows them to overlook the obvious shortcomings of this handheld iteration.  Though there is evidence that suggests that the developers treated this game as more than a simple port, their efforts will likely go unnoticed by those not previously indoctrinated.

Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D Gets a New Release Date

It's a shift in a very positive direction.

The 3DS version of Snake Eater has been moved around quite a bit since its announcement at the 2011 Tokyo Game Show.  Originally scheduled for a December 2011 release, the game was pushed back to March 8, 2011 in November to iron out some bugs and prep the game to be compatible with Nintendo’s Circle Pad Pro.  Now the date is shifting again, but this time it’s going in a much more favorable direction.

Snake will reveal himself on the 3DS in March of 2012.

The port of Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater to the Nintendo 3DS was originally set to be released this December. Then it was announced at the Tokyo Game Show 2011 that it had been delayed to "early 2012." That's an ambiguous term, but now we have a actual release date.
