In which every time I think I'm out, they pull me back in...

It was good while it lasted. For the majority of the previous year I've had the responsibility of cleaning the 5/6th grade building for the school where I work and when an employee came back from her maternity leave at the beginning of the semester, she was assigned that building and I found my workload lessened. I was happy.

Neither my boss or I was happy to find out that she'd been slacking on the job, doing so poorly that the complaints kept coming in. Last week, he and I had to team up to make sure her building was finished (going behind her, making sure she did her duties, doing her tasks if they weren't; they usually weren't). He told me yesterday that he's planning to fire her the next time he sees her. After that, I have the building back. Yes, the overtime hours will be nice and the softball/soccer season is coming to a close but like I said before: I was happy with a lesser load. I will now be even worthless during the week on the homefront with no energy for anything but sleeping, eating, washing up and heading back for 10-11 hour days. Perhaps my boss will find another employee before the semester is over. Maybe. Maybe not.

My cable box/DVR's remote control stopped working yesterday, so I couldn't access my dvr list. Shame. I was wanting to get started on the current season of The Americans as well as the recent episode of Game of Thrones. I spoke with a customer service rep and it seems the solution is for my cable provider to ship me a new remote (apparently, there's a new/recent model; my unit is a few years old anyway) which should be here by the end of the week. I have other options but still: grrrr....

Gaming wise, more Far Cry 4 last weekend. I'm still opening up this fucking massive map; it's staggering how huge this game is. For the first time, too, I played some of the co-op stuff with a friend and its a blast.

I'm sending my rental copy of Alien: Isolation back to Gamefly. I can't take it anymore. I'm a sissy. The last 3 hours I spent with it left me as a nervous wreck. I gotta hand it to the game: it excels at what it wants to do. I just can't see it through. I'll just dream about putting that xenomorph bastard in the airlock and shooting it to outer space. I read somewhere that upcoming DLC lets you take on a facehugger. Uh, no I don't fucking think so. If that was the case, I'd shoot myself into outer space through the airlock.

Picked up Metal Gear Rising: Ultimate Edition and Bayonetta from the PSN flash sale this weekend. I've played the latter on the 360 but I had fun with it so it seemed like an easy choice. I still need to finish MGR.

Anyway, that's all the news that's fit to print. It was good while it lasted.

I just put Far Cry 4 back on my soon-to-play list. I'm watching the prices. I have to finish the DLC for Borderlands PreSequel first though.

At least you weren't playing Alien Isolation via Oculus Rift like they made those teens do on those YouTube react videos the FineBros put out.

And I am never going to get cable TV. Cord cutter all the way.

Playing that on an Oculus Rift has to be a method of torture. Fuck that.

how is The Americans, anyway?

Yeah, I want to play Isolation, but I know I'm a sissy also.  It's too bad, it seems fun.  I really respect the game for being what it is though.

The Americans is one of the finest shows on television right now. A credible take on espionage, marriage, idealism and the simmering paranoia between the U.S. and Russia during the early-mid 80's.
