Giving a PSN "friend" the boot in an awkward way.

As I continue my Far Cry 4 obsession (in which I tend to spend one of my days off playing it for hours on end) I found myself blocking a PSN friend after a disastrous co-op attempt last night.

I met this guy while playing Helldivers two months ago and while I didn't have a problem with him while playing that game, last night it seemed like I saw a side of him that was just amazing and horrifying in equal measure. He's asked me on a couple of occassions to invite him for co-op and I finally had an opportunity last night. I haven't conquered a lot of the map's fortresses so I figured he could help me but for some reason he couldn't connect to my game. So I joined his. Most/all of the fortresses in his game has already been taken so I was basically following him unlocking some outposts and bell towers.

His behavior was truly obnoxious. Too many bad jokes. He wouldn't fast travel anywhere; he insisted that we drove everywhere because of chance encounters (skirmishes with enemies and the like). And, look, I know its a video game but I have a problem with killing animals that don't attack you, like the pigs or the elephants. The latter is pretty much the most friendliest characters in the game and I watched this guy take down an elephant after riding it around, causing chaos to some nearby vehicles and then skinned it.

The breaking point came when we were driving to a destination and for some reason he drove off the road and over a small cliff. While we didn't die (and the car survived), I got seriously annoyed. I wasn't really speaking to him that much unless he asked me a question and I wasn't having any fun. By the time he got the car situated and back on the road, I logged off and turned off the system and went to bed.

When i woke up this morning, I turned the system on and blocked him from the friends list. He didn't send me a message of any kind (maybe he thought I had connection problems). Part of me wishes I spoke up or just told him I was going to call it a night. That was overwhelmed by the part of me that just wanted all connections severed because I didn't like the feeling I was getting from spending time with him. I feel like a jerk but I just don't play games that way.

And fucking leave elephants alone. Even the simulated ones.

When it's not fun, it's time to bug out. Co-op is supposed to be fun for all right? Sounds like he was a horrible host. But on the lighter side. I can't wait to play Far Cry 4. It's very high on my list for when I finish Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. And I agree, don't kill the elephants.

You'll enjoy Far Cry 4. There's plenty to do. Holy crap, is there plenty to do.

I played a few hours of FC3 and loved it. I'm thinking FC4 is just more of that.

Well, he wasn't technically a stranger. We played Helldivers together previously. He just turned me off by acting like a putz.

I play with strangers all the time in MOBAs or MMOs. I guess consoles are different? This is more about you not having fun. I usually don't play co-op at all.

I'm guessing you've had better luck with your games in that better-behaved, like-minded people make playing with them satisfying. It's possible to have a good time in Far Cry 4. My issue is that this guy just wanted to mess around and I didn't. We should've stopped early on. Oh, well.

Yeah I hate killing innocent animals/people just because you can.I don't even like it when you have to kill docile creatures in a Monster Hunter game in order to fulfill quest requirements.

In Far Cry 4, so far the only animals I felt bad about killing are pigs and rhinos. You need to hunt them early on for an upgrade to an inventory item but after you fufill that, you never have to hunt them again. They never attack you, always running away. Sure, I suppose you could kill them and skin them for money but they don't result in a lot of cash.

Same thing with the rhinos although they'll attack you if you get too close. I guess they could provide more money for their hides but they're tough to kill. Not worth the effort.

I generally don't play with strangers. Pretty much the extent of it was playing LBP2 when none of my friends were on. Had some great experiences, some not-so-great experiences, and one kid that was a bit of a pain that I mistakenly friended. I was able to merely unfriend him and that took care of it.

Not sure I'd block him but all the same if it wasn't any fun playing co-op it would be best to leave the game. I've had to jump ship on occasions when I played co-op missions on ace combat infinity.

Just one of those learning moments to see if anyone's gaming style can translate well over between games. Not sure how helljumpers is like compared to far cry 4
