Improving on the Great Tomb Raider

I beat Tomb Raider and as well as Dead Space 3. I have enjoyed both games but right now I will talk specifically about Tomb Raider. There are things I would love to see improved or added in a sequel to a fine Tomb Raider game and here is my list. Swimming would be first. It left it out completely. You can’t be a seasoned explorer without being about to explore hidden areas within the water and caves hidden beneath water. To be more seasoned and not as a novice in Lara’s first grand adventure, she should now be able to be more acrobatic. I don’t see this really happening but it would add to the more puzzle elements if we can get that mixed in the platforming like old Tomb Raider games.

Lara's Moves

Wolves are one thing but what about going against dinosaurs again? The rollercoaster ride in Tomb Raider was amazing. Imagine if you’re doing all that while avoiding a T-Rex. That could be pretty incredible can top off all those falls and chases in the prior game. A lot of what the next Tomb Raider needs is more of what it used to have. A lot of it can be done not losing the new gameplay style from the reboot.

What else to say?

Have you seen the show The Killing? Damn, that is a good show. Finished it on a marathon run on Netflix. I couldn't put down one episode.
Finished Tomb Raider but I want to get a few more trophies. I only have about 32% of them. I want to get at least half. It looks like i didn't finish it with so few.
I got Hanafuda cards from Nintendo. I cashed in on my Nintendo Points.
I also received Gears of War Judgement in the mail today but don't know when I will play it since I have a stack of games to play.

I've never finished a single Tomb Raider game :-/ Gonna have to do that someday...

The cards are pretty cool. Its always nice having something for nothing, especially when its something worth owning. I won't actually play the game. Its just a nice piece of something to have from Nintendo to display.

I definitely agree with the dinosaurs. I loved all the supernatural things in the other TR games. I haven't played the new one yet, but everyone seems to be saying how the platforming's basic, so that's something I'd want to see improved. Give the challenge and timing the old TR games needed.

Yeah, no multiple jumps, back flips, and such to get to different areas. It all plays so much like Uncharted. The story of this game was good and felt it lives up to the past Tomb Raider games. I think you will be pleased.

Swimming in the last Tomb Raider game was actually fun. I think the old games hit the ceiling with the series and started going after magic/alien themes. Area 51 and Valhalla or whatever. The other games had her traveling around the world to exotic locations. I guess I still like the old TR.

This one hits those themes in a subtle way without blowing it up in your face all at once. There is a mystery to the island and that makes the story very interesting. It slowly builds and then you find out why you can't achieve your goal. As for different places, I think the world design of Tomb Raider is best done in this game. Its all connected. It feels connected like the Batman titles where new abilities let you go to new areas.

So a couple of questions is the game shortand how would you compare it adventure wise to the first Tomb Raider?

It's hard to compare it to the first Tomb Raider game. It was one of my first experiences within a 3D world. I already had high hopes for it because of it being something new. I felt this was more impressive by making the franchise relevant again. The game is short but there been many times where I already thought I was near the end. One thing I like is that your able to go back and find all treasures and such that you missed which gives me a reason to back.

I totally agree with what you are saying. I wrote a blog about this exact topic (cheap plug). Here is a summary though:

-More Challenging Platforming and More Moves
-Bigger and Better Tombs and Puzzles
-Swimming and the Swan Dive
-The Grapple
-Gymnastics
-Croft Manor

I agree about supernatural stuff too. There kind of is that here I guess, but it feels like a reskin of the normal enemies. Supernatural enemies would have been a good way to add some variety to the combat.

Wow. It is basically the same thing. I even thought about mentioning dual welding but I thought in the end it wasn't too much of a big deal. It was a big part of her though. They at least had her use them in the end and would probably lead her using them to begin the next title.

The new game isn't completely realistic. You get far enough and then things get pretty crazy.

I have the Harafuda cards, too. I couldn't figure out how to open the box. No matter, I wouldn't be able to figure out how to play them anyway.

Yeah, I am not to interested in playing the game. Its just something nice to have from Nintendo. It was either it or some downloadable titles which I think is awesome.
