Bringing back the Dreamcast

Last weekend, I visited my parents for the first time since Christmas. While I was over there, I was reminded that my Dreamcast and all available games were in (formerly) my bedroom, just languishing in the entertainment center. I decided that I missed the console and wanted to bring it back with me and I did that very thing. What follows are images of one of the smallest DC collections documented but one that I'm comfortable with. There are some games that I've sold off in the past but I'm happy with what I've got.

The console, the wires, and some controllers

While my brother and I used this (2001-2003), we accumulated a good collection. He's a sports nut so of course he bought a lot of racing sims and a good portion of the 2K series. I was more interested in action/adventure and platforming but there were some FPS titles as well. Here is what's left of the games:

Dreamcast games..the ones that are left anyway

Quake III Arena really needs a jewel case but that's how my brother got it. I used to own Sonic Adventure, The Typing of the Dead, Sega Smash Pack, Skies of Arcadia (I still have the Gamecube version), the first Rainbow Six game...and I can't recall anything else.

I also have an NES emulator disc that a college friend made for me in college.

Anyways, I intend at some point to hook this up to my bedroom tv and relive some memories. I really don't want to have anything to do with GTA2, though.

For my tastes, I've never enjoyed the GTA series despite the fact that, with III up to present, they have made advances in game design that I can admire. It's just not my thing. I would watch my brother play that and it just didn't look like fun. He enjoyed it as well as San Andreas. It's just not my cup of tea. Also, GTA2 looks antiquated now.

Your DC collection is huge compared to mine, lol. I have three games, one I bought, the other two were in the DC consoles when I bought them at the Salvation Army thrift store. I only wanted one of the consoles, but they made me take both. It's a long story.

My largest collection for any given system is eleven, the number of Gamecube games I own, so now that your collection on Dreamcast is that picture, it has been reduced to the size of my Gamecube collection, which is my largest. lol

The difference in the type of games you and your brother owned is a lot like the difference between what my brother had for PS1 vs. the types of games I'd have for N64. Interesting.

I know what you mean about GTA2, I played it at the neighbors' house way back when, and wondered how they got to three. lol

Through any systems we shared, he would tend to buy more sports games than me. However, he did buy the copy of Shenmue.

Soulcalibur looked pretty good on Dreamcast, but in Sept. 1999, I was more interested in Final Fantasy VIII on the PS1 I already owned, and I like SCII on Gamecube better. When I got my GC, the first game I bought was Skies of Arcadia Legends.

I recently saw a used game store selling the first four Sakura Wars games for the Dreamcast, and I'm really tempted to buy them. Sakura Wars on PS2 is one of my all time favorite games. I just wish I knew Japanese. :)

The Dreamcast really earned my respect from SEGA.

Well done, sir. My PS2 library used to be acceptable but I'm down to 6 titles now. It's embarrasing.

I have a fully functional system and 50+ games. I also subscribed to the official mag. and still have all the demo discs.

I was devastated when they announced the system's discontinuation (is that even a word?).

I have only managed to list Skies of Arcadia on Amazon and that hurt like a sonofabitch.

All I have is a Dreamcast, one controller, one VMU and Resident Evil: Code Veronica, so you've got me beat, haha. I love that system, though. My next game will be Soul Reaver. I haven't played that game in years!
