My Thoughts on PixlBit So Far

I've had a few days now trying out PixlBit and I have to say, I'm definitely entering the "obsessed phase" in reading everyone's blogs! There's a little bit of everything to be found. I've read blogs on music, incredibly personal stories, film and more!

Of course, there are blogs on video games, but those are also varied. I've read retro reviews, addresses to the state of the industry, dissertations on the console versus PC debate, and an excellent retrospective on the Final Fantasy series.

There's a lot of excellent content here, which is very encouraging. I've tried so many sites that went stale so very quickly. I think what makes this all so exciting is the instant and apparent sense of community. I think it's safe to say that just about every blog I've read is from a 1-up Refugee. I think I might be the only person - save for the staff writers - that I know of who didn't migrate to PixlBit after leaving 1-up. I was directly influenced in coming here because of a former 1-upper, but I did not use that site myself.

I've felt welcomed, though. I've had lots of comments on my first post and have had a few conversations on some of the blogs I've been frequenting. It's been great!

Anyway, I felt like posting my thoughts on the site so far. I'm enjoying my time here and the great articles, so keep up the great work!

Cheers

I'm in the obsessed phase too. This place is great, and I'm trying to participate a lot and read the staff's blogs as well. I didn't EVER read the staff's stuff over at 1up lol. I still have yet to finish the FF Retrospective, but I enjoyed the ones that I did read.

I read it a few pieces at a time. I knew I'd be more interested in the older games, but there was lots of interesting information in the PS2 and 7th Gen sections that made it a great read as well.

yeah I'm trying to be more active too, and I was active BEFORE!  It's been a very fortuitous turn of events and it makes me optimistic for the future.

I'm notoriously bad at joining sites like this and then not being active at all, but I've found myself reading and commenting on lots of posts. I'm definitely very optimistic!

I'm gald I've got a good platform (with a good audience) for a pretty decent effort at a daily blog. I've been toying with the idea for a while,. but 1up's userbase was extremely fragmented for its last year...

Yeah, I've been trying to blog on Tumblr for a few months and I wasn't getting any readers. It's nice to have a place with a community that's active. It makes it more exciting to put forth the effort.

This is quite an interesting site, in the best possible way.

I also like that there is no leveling system.  Post a blog 10pts.  Comment 5 pts.  You have leveled up for adding a game to your collection.   Unless i missed that feature somewhere

I think the difference between PixlBit and most other sites is that it was intended to be a community from the start. Doesn't hurt that it's a "mom and pop" owned site and not tied to a corporation. That's the difference between love and money that we're feeling!

I think you're spot on!

Our Take

You should also keep in mind that many of the PixlBit staff were, at one time, 1up bloggers.  I was the first to move to PixlBit and persuaded a couple of others to join, like Julian, Patrick, Travis, Vic, and Mike.  I feel like I may be missing someone in there (and I'm sorry if I did), but our history there has helped to shape PixlBit - not into 1up 2.0 - something different but inspired by the community effort put forth by that site.

I think we're starting to get some traction.  More changes are coming in the future - we hope you like them.

I didn't realize most of the staff was from 1-up, as well! Now I'm definitely feeling like a newbie, haha.

This is great to hear. All of our members, new and old, are making this a great community and the staff is very happy about that!

AGREED

Sorry, couldn't help myself lol. I'm just taking a back seat and letting the excitement wear off a little bit. Then BAM! POW! you'll be hearing a lot more from me. Probably!

Borat! Taking a girl to his movie almost got me slapped, but it was worth it! lol

Glad you're enjoying the site and especially that you like blogging variety. I'm gonna start trying to tie games into my blogs next month, but I like talking about other things as well.

I'm really glad to read this. I think we're all a little shellshocked. Former 1uppers because they lost a gaming hub, and current PixlBitters because now we have an audience to talk to and try to entertain.

Pixlbit is an awesome site and I hope all the new refugees to end up staying and it's not a passing fad..I intend on staying thats for sure.

Not so much as an obsession for me but I have been starting to slowly get in the habit of reading everyones blogs and responding to comments. I think the only obsessive thing I have done so far wsa bookmark the blogs I have commented on to read any comments replied back to it. But So far I am loving it.
