PSA: Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 and Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 About To Be Delisted from XBL and PSN

If you have been holding out on buying Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 or Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 because you don't have a reason, well here's one: both games are about to be delisted from digital market places on Xbox Live and Playstation Network.

Silently announced in between the fervor of the finals of the Capcom Cup, it was announced that both games would be leaving digital networks for purchase. In the case of both Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, that also includes DLC. As such, both games are now 50% off including all of the DLC for MVC 3 and Ultimate MVC 3. Interestingly, Marvel Vs. Capcom Origins is not reported to be delisted however it also 50% off on PSN. No real reason has been given why but its probably the agreement over the Marvel license has expired like Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom did last year and Fate/ Unlimited Codes the year prior.

Playstation owners should probably jump on this ASAP, the last day to buy the games as well as DLC for both MVC3's is the 17th in North America (19th in Europe). 360 users have a bit longer as the delisting isn't happening until the 26th. Even if you have waning interest in any of these games, its best to jump on these deals now. Physical copies of MVC2 for PS3 and 360 are hard to find and its best to get the two character DLC for MVC 3 because there might not ever be anyway to get them after that.

Damn, I'm glad i jumped at get TvC, I already have MvC2 but MvC3 was a disappointed so i'm not too bothered.

Yeah TvC was my favorite out the three Vs. series of last genration but UMVC 3 is pretty fun too.

This. Just imagine--if the Xone's initial policies were in place, they could've locked out anyone who bought the game after this date from using it even with a disc. Can't wait to see what happens to game ownership once we go full-digital. -_-

I'm really curious how the tournament scene will react to Jill and Shuma being disk locked. Actually I'm just plain curious how all fighting games will react when we go full digital. There are a many benifits to digital but there are so many conquenses yet fully explored.

With this and Skullgirls soon also leaving the PS3 and 360, I sometimes wonder if it's only a coincidence. I kinda hope they bring the Marvel vs Capcom games to Steam, but I'm finding that unlikely.

That's never going to happen. Capcom doesn't port a bunch of fighting games, especially the HD ports, because they expect most people are already playing arcade emulations. D&D arcade was strangely the exception to that though.

I have these on disc for 360 and I can't think of any DLC I would want, so I think I'm good. My favorite character to play as was She Hulk because Phoenix Wright was in her ending and that cracked me up.

Well there's the extra costumes for Wright and She Hulk. Though since your on the 360 you have much more time to get those if you want. Really I'm trying to get the word out about the two characters because those are more important and can't be bought again.

If there's enough fan interest in it, I think that it will be put back up eventually. It's a shame though, MvC2 is such a great game.

Yeah I actually started playing MVC 2 more this year. But yeah I wouldn't count out Capcom getting the right again. The question is when though.

I heard that liscence agreements only last a certain amount of time and then when it ends the games are removed. I guess Capcom could then release them somewhere else if they wanted.

Yeah I guess so. I'm guessing that Capcom had a 5 year-ish contract with Marvel and it just ran out. I'm surpised that this contract lasted so long though espcially through the change over from Marvel being independent to being owned by Disney. Its all a matter of whether or not Disney will allow Capcom the rights for Marvel vs. Capcom again and whether or not Capcom can afford it. The latter part is Capcom's most immediate problem because they don't have much money at the moment.

Question, what does the dlc contain on UMvsC3? Been wanting to get it for a while but don't have the money for it now, so maybe I thought I'd just get the dlc, if it's worth it. Problem is I don't have any money on my PSN thing to get it. Plus, what characters are extra for MvsC3? And what will be the fate of the Avatars on the PS3?

It features most of the DLC costumes, barring Magneto. Probably the most important thing to get is the two character DLC, Jill and Shuma-Gorath, from the oringial MVC 3. The costumes do suck not to have but no two characters perminately locked is totally wrong. They are also on sale as well, 50% off for the PS3 verison which unlocks on the Vita verson too.

Too late, I went to put money on my debit card but the dlc was gone by the time I got back, I was really looking forward to playing UMvsC3. Listen, if you or if you know anyone that can let me download the dlc off their account let me know. I'll let them sing into my account so they can download any stuff that I've bought on my account.
