Well, out of nowhere I ended up buying a Wii U, lol. I have been contemplating buying one when they dropped in price for a while now. Then the Playstation 4 was announced and that became a priority, I mean I have owned every Playstation home console since the original PSX, so I won’t hide any notion that I totally have favored Sony my whole gaming life.

This is officially the first Nintendo console I have bought with my own money. I saw it on sale locally for $190. What drew me into buying it; casual games and Nintendo properties. I say casual games because there has been a number of times me and some friends have all wanted to sit and play a game together, but not too much offerings as far as “party games” on PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and X360.  Any fun games you can recommend to play with friends on Wii/Wii U? (Mario Party, NintendoLand, Wii Sports…etc). I was reading online that when you buy Mario Kart 8 and register it, Nintendo is giving away one free game from this selection: Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD, Pikmin 3, New Super Mario Bros U or Wii Party U.

Backwards compatibility is also pretty awesome. Never owning a Wii, there are some games there I would like to play. Any recommendations I will consider also. Games on Wii that interest me: Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Xenoblade Chronicles, Wii Sports Resort, Super Mario Galaxy, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Donkey Kong Country Returns…etc.

Some Wii U games I am interested in: Zelda: Hyrule Warriors, Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros, New Super Mario Bros U, Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD and the next Zelda/Metroid games.

I bought a few games online in anticipation, so I have to wait for them to arrive in the mail. I bought Super Mario 3D World (Wii U), Metroid Prime Trilogy (Wii) and Super Smash Bros Brawl (Wii).

I had to buy Super Mario 3D World, it was the main game that made me interested because it looks so awesome. I have watched a lot of gameplay clips and reviews and it looks like a lot of fun. Also, it looks like a game I could play with friends and have a good time with.

I bought Metroid Prime Trilogy because it was cheap where I bought it ($13,new I think) and everywhere I see it, it’s always atleast $50 ,even used. I want to see what condition in comes in. If it is in mint condition, I may not open it, lol. Not looking to resale it or anything, it is just a collector’s item. I will most likely open it and play it though.

Lastly, I bought Super Smash Bros Brawl in anticipation for the new one coming out. This one has Solid Snake in it though, my favorite character from my favorite series, so I will most likely be using him a lot. Also, Sonic is in this game, crazy. The super moves in this game look fun and ridiculous.

I played through the Prime Trilogy again last year.  Those games are awesome.  I may have to play through 'em again this year.

I started to play through the first one, but I did not own it or a Gamecube (my brother did), have always been interested in going back to play them.

Congrats on the Wii U, great choices on your games. Out of Wii games, I'd say the Mario Galaxy games are a must and Kirby's Return to Dreamland is second. If you like Smash Bros, I think you'd like that. On Wii U, WW HD is possibly the best HD rerelease, Nintendo Land is one of the best party games you'll find if you have enough Wiimotes also.

As for Virtual Console, patience and Club Nintendo are your best friends there. They offer VC games as rewards on there, and pretty much everything will end up circulated there at some point.

I was definitely eyeing the Mario Galaxy games, they look awesome. I will most likely be picking those up. I will look into Kirby, I like those games.  I remember playing the original one on the old school Gameboy.

Wind Waker HD is definitely high on my list, especially since I never played it. I live the art style of that game, so colorful.

NintendoLand came with the bundle I got, glad to hear it's good to play with friends. i just need to buy some Wiimotes. have you ever played any Mario Party games for Wii that are any good?

I like that the Wii U is targeting a "play with friends" attitude. I can than play PS4 for the hardcore games.

Nah, I've never actually owned a Mario Party game even if I've played a few. Nintendo Land has a lot less minigames though, but it fleshes them out more. It's more worth playing because of how unique they are, it's really perfect for multiplayer. I agree with their attitude too, PS4 may get my attention on my own, but Wii U does when I've got people over.

Cool. Does Wii U have a friends like PSN?

Yeah, it does. Have their own way of doing it though.

Brawl is an incredible game! There's tons to do, it will keep you busy for awhile. The Wii has a lot of great games, in my opinion (I don't understand why so many people think it has a bad library). Both Galaxy games are amazing. NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams and Okami are also great 3rd party games that I would recommend. If you like Punch-Out, you'll love the Punch-Out game for Wii, it's super fun and charming. Those are my recommendations for Wii. I don't have a Wii U, but already there's some great games for the system. From what I've heard, SM3DW will not let you down.

Punch-Out I will most likely buy. It looked like my kind of game, the original for NES is a classic. Cool that Max is going to be in the new Smash Bros game as well.

I can't see myself being disappointed with SM3DW, it looks so different and awesome compared the mainly Playstation games I've been playing for years.

I am so close to springing for a Wii-U. Any suggestion of a price drop or change in the system to make it cheaper makes me want to run out and get one.

I didn't know it could play Wii games. That's sort of cool. I don't think I want to get rid of my Wii though. Performing a garrote-like move in MadWorld is too satisfying.Tongue Out

Why Metroid Prime Trilogy isn't more available is just incredibly baffling to me. One of Nintendo's best franchises and they can't bring the improved versions of those games to the masses. What are they thinking?!

The backwards compatibility was a huge selling point for me, because there are definitely some Wii games I want to play. All Wii controllers are compatible as well, awesome.

Yea, that is weird that the Metroid Prime Trilogy is rare. Glad I nabbed one cheap.

I may get one on my birthday or when that new X game comes out and then i'll get the Zelda version.

I'll get the PS4 when Guilty Gear Xrd comes out, that might actually be sooner though.

Awesome, I love the PS4. They need to release some more games though I will admit. Slim pickings right now, hopefully that changes soon. The new Wolfentstein looks interesting and Diablo 3 is the next game I want for the system. Wii U seems like it will offer a good variety and I love the brightly colored art style of Nintendo games, especially in HD.

I'm the opposite. I have only ever owned Nintendo consoles through Gamecube, but will be buying a PS4 this year, having skipped last generation aside from my current laptop.

I tried to get into PC gaming, even bought a "good" rig. I just couldn't though, even running Skyrim at max settings with 50 mods wasn't enough. I am just a console gamer at heart.

PS4 is awesome, I just wish they would start releasing some more games for it. The Wii U too as a matter of fact, but the Wii U is backwards compatible atleast though.

I know what you mean. Did you play with keyboard or mouse or a controller though? I play with my laptop hooked up to my TV via HDMI and with a controller. The laptop screen goes off and it kinda-sorta feels like a console. Not exactly, but for the price of a PS4 and being able to do lots of stuff besides just games, I dig my laptop purchase.

Awesome! The Wii U is everyone's favorite system to dump on but I've really loved mine. Super Mario 3D World is probably the best game on the system. My wife and I loved playing through it and I can only imagine how madcap it would be playing through with four people lol. New Super Mario Bros. U is fun as well. Did your Wii U come with Nintendo Land? You should definitley get that if you have friends to play with.

Wii games, wow, what a gold mine. You've already picked some good ones (Metroid Prime is my all-time favorite game). A couple other suggestions—Sin & Punishment: Star Successor; Sonic Colors; The Last Story; Xenoblade Chronicles; Resident Evil 4; Zak & Wiki; Dead Space: Extraction. All depends on your tastes, of course Smile

Yea, the system came bundled with NintendoLand. Sounds like everyone agrees that it is a good party game.

Yea, the Wii selection is pretty good. The thing about Nintendo games though is that they hold they value, so you pay more  for them. I have quite a few I would like to play, so other ones are: No More Heroes 2, Donkey Kong County Returns and of course the Super Mario Galaxy games.

Nintendo Land is fantastic.  Definitely get that one.

Good to hear, it came bundled with the system. Wish they would make a new Mario Party game, I always enjoyed playing those at friends' houses.

Oh god, I need to get a Wii U as soon as posible. Congrats though, hope you have a very good time with it.

Metroid Prime Trilogy and Brawl are great choices for starters. As for other recommendations: Super Mario Galaxy (both games), The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, Wii Sports obviously if you want party games, Wii Sports Resort, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Super Paper Mario, Kirby's Epic Yarn, the Kirby anniversary collection, Wario Land: Shake It, New Super Mario Bros Wii.....

How is that Wario Land: Shake It game? I remember seeing it thinking to myself "what is that?". I guess I can watch a review or something on YouTube.

Is the latest entry of the Wario Land series, where the main atraction is well, shaking the remote controler. Of course, that doesn't have much importance and the plataforming is where its at. You can ask Cary about it.

Wow $190 for a WiiU? I might jump at that price. Congrats on the new console!

I really haven't been following what's on the WiiU but the one game that did catch my interest is the Lego City Undercover which looks like a Lego meets GTA game.

Yea, it is the original deluxe set that comes with NintendoLand, that's probably why it was that price. Thanks, looking forward to playing some Nintendo titles after a loonnngg drought.

$190?! Wow that beats my price I paid on mine just a few weeks ago. If you want a good game that's pretty cheap, I'd recommend Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U edition. From gamestop, I'd picked up a new copy around $16, used are about $12. Its just like the 360/PS3 verison featuring some fun little Nintendo touches.
