Hey there everyone. Today's BaD is going to be short but sweet on arcade racing games. I love arcade racers a lot. There was a point when I was a teen where I had two Mad Catz universal steering wheels to play arcade racers. One broke and I still have one but is not in great shape. Still arcade racing games hold a big deal in my heart. So it makes me so happy to see a sudden resurragance of arcade racers again this year. With the succesful Kickstarter campaign of Reto 80's styled Dift Stage and the litterally named 90's Arcade Racer (the game in the video), its lovely to see the genre still alive. Currently I've been playing Sonic and All Star Racing Transformed, a lovely Sega fan serviced nod to arcade racers. I know alot of people just ascribe the game as a Mario Kart clone and while there's definately some truth to that really its an arcade racer. More importantly, its a Sega arcade racer: Its the drifting, the track design, and music that all culminates into a friendly reminder of what Sega used to in the 90s so well. I love it.

So what are your favorite arcade racing games?

I haven't really dug my teeth into an arcade racer since the original Project Gotham for original Xbox.  I really played the fuck out of that game.  Since then, I find them not as interesting, or too floaty, and with simulation racers I find them either not floaty enough or TOO interesting.  Laughing  I didn't get too into Forza, but I never owned it only rented it, but I'm hoping Project Cars is good so I can have a next gen racing experience soon.

The Sonic & SEGA All-Stars racing games are very good!  Can you guess who my favorite characters are?

Some of my favorite arcade racers are:

Road Riot 4WD

Ridge Racer Type 4 (other Ridge Racer games are good, too, but this one's my favorite)

Mario Kart Arcade GP 1,2, and DX (actually they're not as good as you think they would be)

Any other Mario Kart games are fun, too.

OutRun 2000

Crazy Taxi (does that count, not really racing)

And that's all I can think of right now.

Love the Sonic and SEGA All-Stars games they're beautiful to look at and really fun to play. I don't think they are clones I think they improved on a lot of things,

The old Need for Speeds are some of my favroites as well as old Burnout. The newer ones are a bit disjointed because of the focus on online.

I forget was it was called but the first NFS for the PS2 I loved a lot. Especially when the cops would set down spikes in the road and you tried to keep going before you crashed.

90s Arcade Racer looks so nice. Is it coming to PC?

Strictly speaking of Arcade Racers that i've actually played on cabinets, my favorites were definitely Daytona USA (both games), Cruis'n World, one also of Midway with buggys that I can't remember its name and Hydro Thunder.

90's Arcade Racer is coming to PC, Wii U, and I think iOS? Anyway, that one Midway game you were talking about was it shot from a over head view and in 2D?

No, it was on 3D and made around the same time as the Cruis'n series and I think it even had the same engine as those.

Didn't play too many arcade racing games, the one I remember the most is Crusin' USA. I was absolutely horrible at it.

I loved Cruisn' Exocita. Its was one of the last Crusin' games and it was really weird one too.

I haven't played too many racing games in the arcade, but I do like the arcade style racers on consoles especially if they let you crash into things. Thus the Destruction Derby series and the Burnout series are my favorite racing games. Oh, and if you include motorcycles, Road Rash as well. That reminds me, I need to play Pure sometime soon. I loved the demo for that. Oh yea, and Split/Second too. AND Blur. I heard that's really good.
