Before anyone jumps to conclusions, no I haven't bought a PS4. Turns out a friend of mine has the console and game, so with his permission I decided to create a new game and play for myself whenever I can come to his house.

This game really doesn't need much introduction. You already know it, it won billions of Game of the Year awards, became the last signature game for the Playstation 3 and it's the game of 2013 in the opinion of our overlord staff member Casey "Epic Greenman" Curran. You also probably aware of the plot or atleast get the gits of it, so I won't waste time and answer what you want to hear: this game is pretty sweet.

I should start by saying that this game looks beautiful. Not only are the graphics top-notch, but the scenery is gorgeous and breathtaking and it probably has one of the most impressive Post-Apocalyptic landscapes I had ever seen. The rest on the technical department is not slouch, as I quite found the sound engineering to be impressive and i'm really glad how the game is so smooth on the animations, but never seems drop from 60fps or get any bugs (from what I'd played atleast).

From what i've seen, gameplay is divided by those who loved it and those who couldn't stand it. I'm in the former camp. Really, once you get the gist of the controls and mechanics, the gameplay is very much excellent, as you can shoot your way out, or take a more stealthy aproach, but the game never seems to obligate you to stick on a gameplay style and even if you get caught, well, time to take your guns fellows. You get many ways to take on enemies, distract them or otherwise bring attention, and here it also makes hand-to-hand combat useful if you have an enemy close to you or lack bullets. The Clickers are also some of the most tense enemies i've ever encountered.

For the story, i'm still early on the game (the Boston Capitol building btw), so it hasn't reached the point where it gets much mure interesting, but it's overall pretty nice so far. It has a solid script out of an HBO tv series, the voice acting is fantastic, the characters are interesting and I can definitely see the grey morality coming up and some emotional moments. The prologue almost got me and (early game spoiler!) so did the death of Tess, which I didn't expect to be that close from the beginning.

So yes, I can definitely see the worlwide praise the game is getting. I'm really enjoying The Last of Us and I hope it can keep up and get better once I return again to my friend and continue playing it.

i'm really excited to play this.  I think the major complaint of it is that it's kind of not as interactive persay as a regular game, and is more of a linear experience, but I don't really have problems with that sort of game, and often enjoy them. Glad u are getting a chance to check it out.

Now go out and buy a PS4, dammit!  Tongue Out

It's nonlinear in the ways that matter. Combat offers a wealth of different options while the bits between it reward exploration and going off the path

yeah i haven't played it, so I dunno.  sounds like a game I would enjoy though.

It's a bit linear, but it's not hallway linear. It feels like Halo where you have a path, but with open spaces and many ways to traverse or attack.

I'll probably get a PS4..... in 10 years Tongue Out

I played this on PS3 and didn't care for it much. I only made it a few hours into the campaign. I can see why people would though, and it sure was pretty to look at. Are you planning on buying a PS4?

Maybe you should give it another try. I think once you get used to the mechanics and gameplay, it becomes a much richer experience. Honestly, though the PS4 looks nice and there's some insentives to buy it, I don't feel like I would like one as of this moment.

Finished the original in a weekend. Stayed up to 4-5am most nights what weekend playing it. Hadn't done that since the God of War 2 or Resident Evil 4 haha.

Hee, I remember doing an all-nighter with Sonic Heroes on the Xbox. I completed the story, but messed my metabolism in the process :P

I really love this game, it's in my top ten ever. Hope you get to play it through, the best part comes into play 2/3 of the way into it but man it's so damn good. I also like the title of site overlord.

Dont worry, i'm continuing the game, it just has more to do with going to my friends house, which i'll probably do more frequently.

Don't tell Nick about the overlord title Tongue Out

We ordered a PS4 and it just arrived today! I plan to get this game but haven't yet. I played some Resogun, though, and that was pretty cool.

I'm sure you'll get to it eventually.

Controller/graphic differences or you were just more in the mood for it?

Hmmm, maybe it's like Joe says and probably also add 60fps.

I haven't gotten around play this yet. Now that I have PS4, I may just play the Remastered version.

For what it's worth, it seems to be the definitive version so it's a good choice. The Left Behind DLC is also included.

I'll probably play this sometime. I'm thinking it may not be my type of game, but I do like melee fighting in games and I think you can do that if you want. I may play it like Condemned Criminal Origins.

Well, fisticuffs and melee weapons are good, but you also need guns if you want to survive.

I'll definitely give this game a try sometime.
