BaD: More like Blog a Week in my case...

In less than 5-6 hours, the weather in my area will go from lovely sunshiney skies to freezing rain, followed by sleet and then possibly at least 3 feet of snow. It blows my mind when temperatures change so dramatically in the course of day (as it did yesterday when it reached 68 degrees only to plummet to 25 at night) but that's the nature of winter weather. I dread this time of year because of all of the damage that snow/ice-storms can do to my life. Obviously I'm worried that it might hurt my truck in some way. It can also affect the roads, which cancels work and the ability to travel. Last year this time, I lost 15 days of work due to repeated snow and ice storms; in some cases, I was unable to get out of my fucking parking lot (no way in hell will anyone clear the snow and ice out of that area) so I couldn't leave if I wanted to.

So I'm worried of course that by missing work, I'll lose hours which means losing money. All I can do is just sit in my apartment and just wait it out as I expect to do for the next 24 hours or more. This can net me the ability to get caught up on house chores as well as any tv, films or gaming that I usually can't get access to during work weeks these days.

Gamefly sent me a copy of Alien: Isolation so I intend to make a fool out of myself and broadcast my gameplay via twitch.tv. My account name is the same as my handle here and I plan to broadcast sometime this evening. I usually don't play survival horror games of any kind (I suppose The Last of Us is the closest thing even though some may not consider that part of the genre) so I wonder if I still got my little-boy scream ability. I bet you I can drop some f-bombs in fright.

Two weeks ago I surprised myself by buying a $40 copy of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare for the PS4. I haven't played any game in this series since Black Ops (mostly a little of the campaign before I got frustrated and quit) and the last time I jumped in the multiplayer really heavily was Modern Warfare 2. Right now I'm level 20 and while I have good and bad matches, I think the new game mechanics have revitalized not only the series' direction but my willingness to participate in it. It takes a while to get used to jump strafing but when I did I actually found the twitch gunplay very exciting. There's plenty of unlockable abilities, weapons and gear so the "carrot on a stick" aspect is well done. I finished the campaign first thing and while it didn't do anything different from a plot perspective, it was still impressively executed and full of rollercoaster moments that the series' campaigns are known for. I don't know if anyone else here is playing COD: AW on the PS4 but if you are, I'd love to get killed a million times right along with you.

I've been making progress in Shadow of Mordor as well. I still haven't touched my digital copy of Dragon Age: Inquistion. I even made some more progress in my 2nd playthrough of Mass Effect 2.

Movie wise, I haven't seen anything since Jupiter Ascending a week ago. I love that film; I truly do. It's ambitious, bold, a litle messy and truly bonkers but its also sincere, wondrous and very aware of its crazy surroundings. It's a reminder that the Wachowskis once again prove that they're the only ones making films like this and I truly wish more people would give it a chance but I feel it'll receive the same fate as their Speed Racer film (also unfairly dismissed). I'd really hate it if they were not able to making films like this anymore but at least they gave it their all. I'm also looking foward to their upcoming Netflix series Sense8. But I digress: JA is a fun sci-fi tale and the cast just looks like they're having a ball. Plenty of grand spectacle and clever action setpieces; the nighttime chase through Chicago was exhilirating and seeing Channing Tatum take on a badass winged lizard-man in the finale was so damn fun. Great film score by Michael Giacchino and a clever nod to Terry Gilliam's Brazil at one point. Also, gravity skates. You want them.

I finally got a rental copy of Gone Girl so I can watch that tonight. I plan to watch Everly on VOD (Salma Hayek kills a bunch of mobsters from the confines of her apartment; SOLD.). I just saw the recent episode of Agent Carter (excellent show) and I need to catch up on Archer and Venture Bros. I'd really like to see The Kingsmen but seeing's how the weather is/will-be shitty and I've got plenty to watch at home, I'm not going to bother today.

I really do admire how the rest of you have been comitted to your BaD entries. This is such an awesome community and I hope that I can contribute more that I have in the past. I hope everyone stays safe and warm and sane.

Man, I take back all that crap I said about wanting to live with relatives in Wisconsin as a kid "because they have seasons and actual winters." Actual winters just sound awful.

I'll let you know if I'm able to rent Modern Warfare for PS4, but the Red Boxes in my area aren't promising. My PSN is Jimbeamhortonwho.

Do Red Boxes even make PS4 titles available? I haven't seen any in my area kiosks.

They do or they will, but not in my area yet either. There are PS4 games listed online.

I really want to see JA.  I loved Speed Racer and like the Wachowskis in general.  MAtrix might not have been all it was cracked up to be, but it was still better than most of this shit.

It was great in 3D. It really needs a big screen experience.

I've been MIA for the past week, so don't feel bad. Or should I have said BaD? Anyway, you're the second person who has said Jupiter Ascending is worth seeing on the big screen, so I will be dragging Jason kicking and screaming to see it this week. Other women drag their men to chick flicks kicking and screaming, I drag mine to action/scifi movies, lol.

I need to get in on Agent Carter. I'll wait til I'm caught up with Constantine.
