I figured since my gaming career is on hiatus until Metal Gear Solid V comes out (it would be Batman, but I still only have outdated PC and PS3), I'd take this time to shed some light on other areas of my life, like some of the other bloggers around here.

I was going to rant about how I'm tired of shooting and stabbing people in games, but that's not entirely true. But still, this narrow spectrum of human interactive possibility seems to dominate mainstream production. Relief is needed. So what I want to do is compile a list of good, recent games, where shooting (guns/bullets) and stabbing are NOT involved or core mechanics, no matter the genre (but racing and sports need not apply). During my free time over the last 5 days I've watched a guy play Resident Evil: Revelations 2 on Twitch. I read an article about the design of Doom. I looked at spell lists and videos for a Skyrim build I'm planning on playing. I watched the Angry Video Game Nerd play some Super Ghouls and Ghosts. I watched a discussion on a piece of 3D concept art for the upcoming Unreal Tournament game. I looked up armor and skill information for Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. I chatted about Metal Gear Solid V in a forum. Watched an Arkham Knight gameplay demo. Contemplated whether I should buy Darkest Dungeon, RE REv 2, or Wolfenstein: New Order. Wrote a list of older games I want to complete this year. Amidst all of this game related activity, the one thing I didn't do was play games for more than 1 hour. This is a problem. A first world problem.

A lot of people out there are having an existential crisis. Mabye you're one of them. The world looks dark, crises looming on every front. Things are not rosie, they never have been, but the people who run the system you live under want you to live in a state both depressed and agitated. They bombard your subconscious with news of financial crisis, corruption, perpetual warfare and unrest, at the same time they placate you with cheap entertainment, cheap sex, cheap food, and cheap toys. Cheap in substance but not in price, that is. It's bread and circuses while they rob you of your birth-right and tell you you are doomed without them.
