Fortune Street Review

I'm not sure what your point is, Joaquim. I think the Wii has plenty of games, but that's because most of them appeal to my tastes. But this isn't a review of the Wii, so... yeah. I don't know what you're trying to say.

Also, there's no middle e in my name.

Can you say anything more about the online experience? Does it still work like it does offline or are their restrictions or any downfalls? I do have one friend who was thinking of getting the game, but she lives a good bit away from me and it would be a lot easier to play online than meet in person.

As for the games thing, I still maintain that it's a generalization based on personal preference, making it untrue. I understand that the recommendation part is a little different than what goes into review text, but I still feel that simply saying it would appeal to the Wii Sports crowd would be fine by itself. After all, a good game should be a good game no matter how many other games are on the system.

Did you play much of the single player? That's the only place to unlock stuff, so it's kind of something people will have to do to get the most out of the game. And that's one of the things that's been keeping me from buying the game: in single player, you have to use a Mii! I don't like Miis, so I don't know if I could stand it. You can unlock costumes for the Mii, but that doesn't make up for much. The same goes for online too, you have to use a Mii there as well. That and the lack of mid-board saving in multiplayer are my two biggest complaints about this game.

Since this game is a pretty complicated board game, I'm not sure I know anyone who would be interested in playing it, so I might end up spending more time in single player or online. I'm hoping that some homebrewers will come up with a code to use characters in the other modes, and by that time it will likely have gone down in price too.

I also think that the troll phrase “starving for Wii games” or equivalent should have died four years ago, but that's something for another day.

This game sounds familiar, I think I rented this back in the day.

3DS Ambassadors Can Now Get Their GBA Rewards

I own only 4 of the 10 (or 3 technically since I have Yoshi's Island on the SNES), so it's a decent deal for me. Though I think this list is much better than the NES list, which contained a lot of junk games that feel like they were on there just to inflate the numbers, whereas most of the games on this GBA list are ones people would actually buy on the eShop. Saying "20 free games!" certainly sounds better than 10, now doesn't it?

Let's not forget that Nintendo didn't have to offer any sort of compensation for the price drop. Prices are cut all the time, and every early adapter knows that it comes with the risk of the item's price falling considerably in the near future. Myself, I have never heard of any company offering something to early adapters for price drops. I sure wish I got free games for buying a GameCube at launch...

That said, some people value these games at $130 (at the assumed eShop prices of $5 for NES, $8 for GBA), which is ridiculous. If they were actually worth that much, why can I not sell my 3DS for $300 ($170 system, $130 games)? In fact, I've looked around at several different points over the past few months, and I have yet to see Ambassador 3DS systems sell for more than $170. Even never-used Ambassador systems barely sell more than current retail. So clearly, I am not the only one who sees little value in these games.

I also would have taken something of "lesser value" over these games, were it offered. A $40 eShop credit is half the price cut and less than a third of the supposed value of the games, and I'd have gladly taken that.

Wii U to Show at 2012 CES

Posted on 12/19/2011 at 05:45 PM | Filed Under News

My prediction is that no new information will be revealed until E3 2012, and the system will launch in November 2012. Given the reaction to the unveil last E3, with all the confusion and everything, Nintendo are better off waiting until they have something of substance to show. That means actual games, and they won't have enough of those ready until E3, probably.

Nintendo can't show off the concept of the controller or other new features of the system until they have real, working games. Trickling out info won't cut it, they need to show how the Wii U will actually be different instead of just showing an empty case and saying a lot of words.

The PC version received far more fixes than the console versions, probably because PC games are easier to patch. I think the PC version was also better to begin with than the console versions; the PC version of Skyrim even has options available for the user to undo/reset most causes of glitches.

There's one problem though. I absolutely abhor playing games on a PC. The less time I spend on these infernal machines, the better.

I don't think the GotY edition for ESIV: Oblivion fixed very many glitches, so I'm certainly not going to count on or expect Skyrim's edition to fix anything.

Skyrim is one game that's been tempting me to get an XBox 360 or PS3, though all the glitches in the game are turning me away. I've heard of some pretty nasty stuff that can happen, and none of it seems to be uncommon. I'm going to wait and see what they fix about the game before I even consider getting it.
