Star Wars: The Old Republic Preview

Wow...this might get me to pay for an MMO. I too prefer the more story driven aspect of offline RPGs and was initially dissuaded by KOTOR going MMO because I assumed there would be a loss in plot developmen. Even the fee is reasonable. That's $2 a month. Those two aspects are what have kept me away from MMOs.

I wonder if one of the scenarios has you and your online buddies hacking the PSN.

I don't blame you considering how many compatibility issues there are with the PC version. Though most of them are getting fixed at this point.

Issue 59: Meta-Banned

Pah. They shouldn't have had to ban him. If Nintendo had included patching support and balanced the characters over time there wouldn't be a problem now.

I personally dislike removing aspects of a game to 'make it fair'. In martial arts there is a huge difference between knowing how to do a joint lock on a training partner versus a live combatant. I feel that true skill is when someone comes out victorious despite what outside influences are thrown at them. Take the chaos and use it to your advantage. Start demanding aspects of the stock game be barred from use and it is a handicap.

I was just thinking about writing about this Nick. Great points. I'd like to see a study where actual professional in the fields of gaming are consulted. Professional competitive gamers, game developers and game reviewers would provide some invaluable insight into these studies instead of scientists who are potentially 'clueless' to the many facets of gaming and gamer culture. Your example of Call of Duty versus Splinter Cell is a place where someone who is 'in the know' on the subject would be helpful. I am also curious how these same kids would behave in a similar test where games were replaced with movies and television shows with violence.

In the future I wonder if members of the ESA could be involved in these tests similar to how members of animal rights organizations oversee film productions where animals are present.

I agree that less developers need to be making the same type of game. There is a reason that niche developers are able to stay afloat. They have cornered their segment of the market. Atlus games don't sell a lot but they make money on them because their titles appeal to their unique fanbase.

I actually got in trouble for that incident. I was deemed unfit to babysit my younger sister and grounded for a while too. This is the one that is only 3 years younger than me, not the 12 year old sister.
