Retro Chase Day Two

I went to the other Jay St. Video Game store in my area and grabbed a few things. They had a storm trooper outfit in the front window with a Santa hat on. This store also had three gaming stations set up so you could try any game before you buy it. I thought that was really cool. I saw just tons of great retro systems and games, but I stuck to my list and got what's pictured below.

Sid Meier's Pirates! for the Xbox. This is a remake of the original PC game from the early 90's. It adds some things and removes some things and is in a 3D world. To get a sense of the original PC version, I probably should get the NES or Genesis ports, but this will do. I played this back in 2004 and thought it was pretty fun. I may have actually beaten it, but I don't remember. It'll be fun to revisit. I didn't realize it until now, but you can download this game on Xbox 360 for $10. I paid $15 for the hard copy. I think I'll play it on my original Xbox just to get that old school feeling. I can't believe I'm saying that about the original Xbox. Doesn't seem that long ago.

I also picked up Eternal Champions for the Genesis. I have this on my Genesis Flashback system, but I still have a Genesis 3 console and thought I'd do a quick comparison of the two versions. I still need an AV cable for my Genesis 3 though.

I still have a few titles to get. Tomorrow I'll pick up one of them, but the others I'll probably have to look on Amazon and hope they aren't expensive. I really don't want to pay over $20 for any game right now, especially retro ones.

that game store sounds awesome.  I wish they had something like that here.  There's not even a damn gamestop close to me.

You should have taken a pic of that storm trooper.  Would have loved to see that.  Laughing

These two retro stores literally popped up in the last couple of years. Before that there was nothing but Gamestops, but I guess that's better than nothing. At least you've got Amazon which might actually be better than all of them, except that I like going to stores. I'm so old fashioned.

I knew I should've done that. Oh good! Another excuse to go there again. Thanks.

Good luck with Eternal Champions! It's single player is brutal. Losing matches sends you back to the previous opponent, and you really need a six button controller to play it properly. Still, it was pretty fun with a friend. Plus there are secret stage fatalities to discover!

Ooo, a six button controller for my Genesis would be cool! I'm going to look for one tomorrow when I go back to Jay St. Video Games.

I played Eternal Champions on the Genesis Flashback system.  The game has some neat character designs (I like the circus lady), but otherwise it's just another slow and clunky early 2-D fighter.

The art design is what attracted me to the game, much like Darkstalkers did. I want to see some weird special moves too.

A co-worker loaned me Pirates!, which I really enjoyed, with the exception of the dancing QTE mini game. That was just a pain in the ass. Wouldn't mind owning a copy myself.

Yea, the dancing was a little bit silly. It's also new to the 2004 version of the game. If I see the earlier versions, I may pick them up just to see how it's different. I've read they changed Tobacco in the NES version to Crops, but that it's mostly the same as the original PC version.

Rarely find some good games at the Goodwill when I check the place out but I do find a few things like Warhammer 40K and Neverwinter Nights.

I've had bad luck at Goodwill lately. I'll go over there every so often just to check though.

Hell yeah two of my favorites right there! I didn't know much about Pirates when I bought it and I was suprised on how much fun it was. I dig Eternal Champions but damn that boss battle!

Played Pirates today. Awesome game!

I noticed those Sega Flashback systems that suppoesdly has 80 games on it actually on has 40 actual genesis titles while the rest just some made up titles!

Saw it on sale for $20 at a JC Penny's awhile back. I'd be curious to see how Eternal Champions compares on their respective set ups.

I played the Intellivision Flashback this weekend and it was ok, but you had to reboot it a lot for some reason. Something with the system having trouble recognizing its own controllers. Everything about these flashback systems says, "cheap" except for how they look. I still have to try the others though.
