23 games will be available on day one.
This morning, Nintendo clarified the specific titles that will launch alongside the Wii U. Previously, we had only known of the launch window titles; however, that launch window extended out all the way into March of 2013. Day one Wii U consumers will be able to choose from a total of 23 titles, which include the likes of New Super Mario Bros. U, Assassin's Creed 3, and Black Ops II. You spin me right 'round baby, right 'round...
If you’ve read my reviews for Guardian Heroes and Golden Axe, it’s pretty clear that I’m a big fan of the classic arcade-style beat ‘em up. Many critics will say that this genre is an irrelevant dinosaur and has no place in modern gaming, but I disagree. While the old “quarter muncher” design philosophy no longer works today I truly believe that the side-scrolling brawler can still be a viable genre with the right updates to the formula. WayForward comes frustratingly close to bringing this genre into the modern age, but doesn’t quite get the job done with Double Dragon: Neon.
More like Newsies Without Pants, amiright?
You were probably expecting a really entertaining discussion about our favorite female video game characters with a real life lady guest. Sadly, this episode of Nerds Without Pants is another sausage fest. We hope we can bring that topic to you in the future, but for now please enjoy this free form episode.
The video game industry's doctors are moving on.
Hot on the heels of the huge announcement for Dragon Age 3: Inquisition came some sobering news that nearly eclipsed that previous story: the founders of Bioware, Dr. Greg Zeschuk and Dr. Ray Musyka confirmed that they are leaving the company. This isn’t simply a matter of the doctors making a smooth exit from EA to form a new independent video game label—they are leaving the industry entirely and moving on to new ventures.
Would you kindly listen in to our Wii U heavy podcast?
After making a few predictions last week, Jason and Nick sit down to discuss the results of Nintendo's Wii U Press Event and the events that have followed. Nintendo TVii gets some air time and its potential operability is discussed in detail. The conversation also covers the pricing structures of the system, as well as the strength of the launch line-up and window.
D’awwww, wook at the widdle corpses!
We all know that war is ugly. But what if someone found a way to make it so freaking adorable that any moral qualms you might have about the whole concept went out the window? Well, War of The Human Tanks sure does its best by making battles across the oh-so-fictionalized land of “Japon” into a cute-fest on a game board. It's a game board with fun mechanics if you can endure the painfully boring and long-winded story that stands between you and each match.
Borderlands, bayonettas, and monsters! Oh my!
This week's PB & Jason is summed up by the abstract above. Hear about the PC version of Borderlands 2! Brave the face of people seriously unhappy over the idea that Bayonnetta 2 will be released only on the Wii U! Learn more about the deals for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate! Oh, also, if you're willing, keep listening to learn a smidgen about what's going on between Amazon and Nintendo. Those of you who make it all the way to the end of PB & Jason will be able to hear a smidgen more about the setting for the RPG I'm planning to consider creating!
