To continue from yesterday's blog, I did a lot of thinking last night. I couldn't get that feeling of peace and tranquility I had standing in that apartment out of my head. Yeah, it was a bit pricey. Yeah, it would be smart to look at the other 4 or 5 places I had in mind. But really, the prices would only vary by a hundred bucks or so, and there are benefits to this place that go beyond the rent price.

Still, I had planned on getting off of work early so I could look at a nearby property. Well, until I looked it up onine, and saw way too many reviews from people who had had their cars vandalized, broken into, and apartments robbed.

That would be a big nope for me! I called the guy at the place I looked at and said I didn't need to look anywhere else. I got approved (barely), and signed all of the paperwork today. I get the key on April 1, which gives me a full two months to move. I like that. I can load up my car in the evening and unload on the way home from work. Most of the important things *coughcoughgamescollectionandcomicscough* can easily be transported in my car, and I'm getting rid of most of the furniture. What little is left I'll go ahead and pay to have moved, because I really hate driving Uhauls.

In case you were wondering, my new apartment is just down the street from the place with all the crime incidents, but that second property has this ratty trailer park right around the corner from it, which is where most of that came from. I should be ok where I'm at.

To celebrate, I dropped by my comic book store and picked up my new books. I'll definitely have to cut waaaay back on my monthly books when I move, but I'm definitely going to hold on to Invincible Iron Man by Brian Michael Bendis and Doctor Strange by Jason Aaron. Bendis is one of my favorite writers (probably because I didn't read his Avengers run), and Aaron has been knocking it out of the park with Thor. Doctor Strange feels like it could be a great TV series the way Aaron has set up the premise. While I have never read Strange as a monthly book before I get the distinct feeling that this is not your daddy's Sorcerer Supreme, but I don't think that's a bad thing at all.

Since I'm talking comics, two other books I wouldn't dream of dropping are the new Archie and Jughead books. Seriously. Mark Waid writes Archie with this perfect blend of sincerity and camp, and Chip Zdarsky has proven to me that he's not just a one hit wonder with Sex Criminals. Jughead is something special, and you should check both of them out if you like things that put a smile on your face.

I went back and read your previous blog. My condolences for the loss of your Mother.  but yeah, now is a good time to move and change your life-routine...the new apt sounds like a winner. I hope and Im sure everything will turn out for the best. Good Luck!

Man, I hate moving. Done it waaay too much in the last five years. But it sounds like there are a lot of benefits in this one for you, and there are few feelings as satisfying as being completely unpacked after a move.

congrats on the new place man. moving can really help sometimes.  I was pretty miserable when I used to live back in maryland..for a lot of reasons.  I was hesitant to move to arizona, but I'm probably happier now than I ever was in my life.

I think it's awesome you're embracing change.

Hey Julian, I'm happy to hear that you're going into a new apartment. It's good for you to have a fresh start and get down the road of positivity.

That Thor run was amazing...  I should probably finish it, and read Lady Thor.

I still need to read Archie vs. Predator ....

Glad you got the apt. you wanted. I like the apartment in now, but there's a no pet policy and I miss my cat. Also, I suspect I'm one of few people who actually follow that policy in apartment complexes. Grumble.
