BaD day 9: a quick bit of advice.

If you have a family, people who will miss you when you’re gone, I have a little bit of advice.

Make a will.

It will save your loved ones a lot of time and stress. Also, have a secure place where you keep passwords, account info, etc. If you have insurance policies, make sure someone in your family knows where to find the necessary information.

I say this because most of us are pretty young still, and probably don’t think about the inevitable. But in the blink of an eye, everything can change, and if these things haven’t been taken care of, it falls to the family to hire expensive lawyers to manage the estate and handle any debts and such. It is exceedingly stressful, and I expect it will be some time before I can say I’m free and clear of the tasks regarding my mother’s affairs.

So, yeah. Make a will.

Sound advice indeed Julian my wife and I put it off for a long time but it's done now.

We don't have a full will yet but we do have a legal document detailing who we want taking care of our kids if anything happens to both my wife and me.

If I make a will now, it will just be a box with a Willy Wonka meme that says "YoU GET NOTHING!" and a printout of my student loans.

But I hear you. And I hope you get all this mess sorted out.

I made a verbal will with my friend Mark. Well, we both did. We both bequethed all our video games to each other, whoever goes first. Other than that. I have nothing to pass on and nobody to pass it to. Oh yea, but there is the enormous estate, and my five yachts. Eh, nobody wants those. I'll just will them to my cat. Wait. I don't have a cat. Ok, Julian, you can have them. There. That's done.

And you live in Texas where the probate laws are supposed to be simple and straightforward. Good advice!
