So, I will admit that I’m really excited for Deadpool, even though I’m not a fan of him in the comics. In truth, my main exposure to him was in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 for the 360 (which was a highlight for sure). I’m super interested to see how they pull this off, and I say this as someone who was a huge X-Men fan that has been less than pleased with the way their universe has been transferred to film.

One of the things I’ve really been digging about Deadpool is the marketing. It’s smart, ubiquitous, and Ryan Reynolds seems to be on board with it in a huge way. I don’t remember him pulling out all of the stops like this with Green Lantern. I’m not sure if that’s because he feels more confident about this movie, or if he wants to compensate for the poor reception to Green Lantern. For my part I enjoyed that movie, but will freely admit that it has some issues.

Sinestro was pretty cool, though.

But I wanted to talk about the following video:

I think this is brilliant. Sure, it serves as a way to market Deadpool some more, but it also serves a real purpose. I don’t hear people talk about testicular cancer too much, and guys tend to be super secretive when it comes to their bodies. Guys, especially younger guys, aren’t likely to give much thought to getting the big C down there, and there aren’t a lot of people out there telling them to check for it in the way that women are urged to check for breast lumps.

This is the kick in the pants that a lot of guys could use. I checked myself for the first time after seeing this video, and I aim to make a habit of it. I think that’s an important thing to talk about, and if it takes a live-action comic book character to get guys thinking about it, so be it.

It also works in regards to the character, since he is plagued with multiple cancers, which is the impetus for the experiments he agrees to. So, yeah, check the family jewels guys. Deadpool wouldn’t lead you wrong.

I'm digging the game. It was the free Red Box rental for me this week. It's a little ADD, but that's also its biggest strength. I'm gonna see the movie this Fri.

It helps that Ryan himself is a long time fan of Deadpool and he proved he could do it on X-Men Origins: Wolverine (atleast early in the movie...), so he snatched the chance very well on being the protagonist on his own movie. Really hope to see it one of these days.
