BaD 2017.21: the final (fantasy) blog.

Well, here we are at the end of BaD. I’m really glad I did this. I think it helped knock the writing rust off, and the support of the PixlBit community helped me to take a big chance and apply for my dream job. I don’t have a big blog for this final one, but it should be a fun one.

I’ve had this idea for a feature called “Building Final Fantasy”. Or something along those lines. Now that FF XV is out and wasn’t a trainwreck, we can finally start considering the future of the series. This is the 30th anniversary of Final Fantasy, so I want to put together a concept of what I would like to see for Final Fantasy XVI.

Here’s where you come in. It’s been too long since we did a feature at PixlBit that had input from our readers. So what I would like from you (if you’re interested) is to tell me a couple things you would like to see in the next mainline Final Fantasy game. Try to keep it to a brief paragraph or two so that we can feature a bunch of different comments in the piece. This is something I’m planning on putting together over the next few weeks, so you have some time to think about it before commenting.

That’s about it! Thanks to everyone who commented on my blogs. I did my best to read and comment on as much as I could, and I hope to continue that even after BaD.

As a non-Final Fantasy fan who's always watched from the sidelines, mainly because the turn based combat just didn't turn me on, i'd like to see them continue with action or wait being optional.

That and a collection of popular mini games in the series for mobile, i dunno.

A Realm Reborn gives me everything I want from a FF game really. Beautiful open world, loads of job classes, epic boss fights, adventure, etc. The music is sublime and it has a lot of style and flair. As much as I like the classic fantasy setting, I've always liked the odd future-fantasy takes as well, like with 7,8,10, 13 and 15. It's been a while since a strategy game, since they are in fashion like xcom games, I'd like to see a sequel to Tactics. Also, we never really got the actual 'Versus' game that was much darker than the game we got-- I'd like to see some of that in playable form perhaps.

Chocobo racing! I want herds of wild chocobo too. I want a chocobo song to the tune of the Beach Boys Kokomo. Yea, I like those fantasy ostridges.

But seriously. Chocobos. They're cool.

But really seriously, I'd like it to be all 2D and turn-based like it was. I'm not a fan of these new action battle systems. The active-time system in FF IV is fantastic though. I like that. Just not what they had in FFXII.

I guess for a quality answer, I'll have to play FFXV, though, and I do have it on my rental list. So maybe it'll be coming soon.

I'm gonna be selfish and wish for a FF game that's 16-bit styled and plays like either FF4 or 6.  I know that'll never happen but that's what I want.

A few years ago I had a really weird dream that I was in a new Final Fantasy game.  It was really epic, I'm surprised my brain came up with it while I was sleeping.  I won't bore you with the details here, but if you'd like for me to tell you more about that dream, feel free to send me a message or let me know here.  I was a White Mage in the dream.

I want Square to look at their 30-year legacy, pick the best of the best, and build from those standards. The storylines of IV and VI, the battle systems of X and XII, the music of the old blended with the new (because ALL of the music is gold), the character bonding of XV, the industry impact of VII, the quests of XIII; they have so much from which to pull there is the perfect game in them yet!

But until then, I'm really happy that they are continuing XV with the DLC and planning to do even more. The free King Regis game was released today. I think I'll download that tonight and try it out.
