WAT THE EFF
In today's blog, The Original Ser fixes a mind-blowing issue and gets his own mind blown.

*****

Short one today, so here we go!

So yeah, we all have backlogs. Well, most of us anyway. But my backlog is so horrendously bad that I literally have dozens of factory sealed games that are years old and have spent thier entire lifetime sitting on my shelf. Just take a look at this old-ass episode of CHC from 2008. Many of these games are still unopened and/or unplayed!

My oldest, by far, is Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia, released in 2007 by NIS America. That means, for over a half decade, this game has sat idly, exposed only to the air within its very case.

Well, I fixed that today. I opened the hell  out of that game and gave it a good solid play. And I'd tell you what I think, if it didn't ruin a good surprise. So stay tuned on that.

What I will say, though, is that I had my mind thoroughly blasted onto the whole of my cieling as I discovered that a segment of lyrics within the Battle music in Ar Tonelico are exactly the same as those found in the boss music in Squaresoft's shooting masterpiece, Einhänder! Word. For. Word. Well, OK, only the first half, but still. I guess they are "stock" lyrics or something. It really makes me wonder how many games have these same lines...

Anyhoo, that's it for today. Hopefully I'll have something a little more substantial tomorrow.

I can see you going on a quest to find out about the lyrics now. That would make a pretty awesome blog series, now that I think about it.  "Ser's Lyrical Quest" or something like that.

I actually expect that it'll be wrapped up into CHC at some point =P

Forget lyrics, how many game songs are just melodies from popular music? Capcom in general, and specifically Mega Man 1's Elecman stage being Journey's "Faithfully" comes to mind. lol

My backlog doesn't exist. Again, I'm not kidding, go look at my collection, I've finished or almost finished all of it, and there isn't that much. lol

Yeah, Earthbound in particular is an infamous example. And that's why no WiiVC version will ever happen.

Must be nice to have a complete collection! At least I have stuff to play when I finally "quit" gaming. There will be a time when the current gen will be no good for me anymore, and that day, likely will be soon.

Well, to be fair, I still need to beat the final level in a few, but not most, so it's not completely complete. lol

I completely skipped over this gen, and it depends on just how steady my job can become whether I adopt any this upcoming one.

What was the Earthbound song? I only rented it once as a kid and hated it (didn't like JRPGs, couldn't figure out where to go).

In Earthbound, there were not just one, but many beatles songs not-so-subtely incorporated into the soundtrack. And you know what it's like with the beatles. They even went after Apple for their logo.

Ar Tonelico is one of the best rpgs by my favorite Nippon Iitchi of NIS and you should play this as soon as possible because your depriving yourself of a fantastic story and the Raventails that populate it lol bur really play it and then write a kick a%# blog on it, cause I look forward to reading it.:-)

I'm about 7 hours in, but I have other plans for it =)

Don't feel bad. My pile of shame is really bad. I have games from the Playstation era that I haven't even spent 5 minutes on! One day I shall conquer Mount Shame and be victorious! I think I've just found my blog theme. haha

As will I... but the task will be daunting, indeed.
