And another edition of this little every-other-day piece of crap that I call the BrokeLeg Blog, well..on account of having a broken ankle.

And, my old lady has been trying to get me to watch Brokeback Mountain since that movie first came out.  I haven't, and will not relent.  It's not how I choose to remember Heath Ledger.  Anyway, I knew that my girl would immediately make the connection.  It's a little inside joke that I've now shared with the lot of you.  Anyhow, Mr. Ledger will always be this guy to me:

- I'd just like to state for the record that I am listening to a bunch of classical music while I'm writing this up.  I'm usually not much of a classical sort of guy, I prefer older rock mostly.  Something must've just awakened within me, I guess.  It's really nice to have in the background.  I'm not REALLY listening to it...i'm hearing it, more like.  Whatever I'm doing with it, it's relaxing, and I'm gonna try to get my 6 year old on it.  He'll bite, I'm sure...he digs most of what his ol' dad does.

- Xander and I have been mixing it up lately with The Office and The Clone Wars.  He doesn't pay too much attention to The Office, for which I am certainly grateful at times.  Some of the humor is borderline inappropriate for youngsters.  Regardless, he shares the same weird fascination with me concerning Dwight.  That guy's a nut!

- Made a slew of good pickups the last couple days.  From, a newly revised Humble Bundle I netted The Real Texas, Dungeon Hearts, and some other mish-mash of games that I can't recall the name of.  From the PSN flash sale I got Tales Of Monkey Island, Tokyo Jungle, Retro City Rampage, Plants Vs Zombies and Jurassic Park The Game, When Vikings Attack, and the Trials-clone motorcycle game.  Although the Jurassic Park game got shitty reviews I'm such a fan of Tell Tale that I don't care.  And my son is such a fan of Jurassic Park that he'd have been miffed if I didn't pick it up.  He was standing right there with me when I brought up the flash sale on the Playstation Store, after all.

- Xander ended up beating LEGO Marvel Super Heroes last night, with a little help from me on the final boss fight.  Attaboy!

- I pulled the trigger...the Chrono Trigger.  I'm an hour into the game so far.  It looks good, even when played on a 55 inch tv.  Battle system is decent so far.  Did I mention that it looks beautiful?

- Golden Sun: Dark Dawn amd Professor Layton are both on my list, and I'm tackling those while my son gets his television time in.  For a while he was pulling this crap where he'd have his show on AND be playing the 3DS at the same time...that's a bit too much of an information barrage for a 6 year old.  Now, Dad gets the 3DS when the kiddo gets the main television for an hour and a half at a stretch.  I've got a bit over an hour into Golden Sun.  The battle system is what I've been craving, just some old-school final fantasy-style inputs.

- Yeah, but that was the most believable Joker backstory to me, that he came out that way cause Gyllenhaal didn't use any lube.

- That old wive's tale about classical music making you smarter is most likely a correlary thing, but I guess it couldn't hurt to get your son into it. Correlation is causation today, screw it!

I know what you mean about hearing instead of listening though. For me, it's the lack of vocals that makes that achievable. There are plenty of long instrumental stretches on some of the metal stuff I listen to that I can drift off to. I dig classical as well, though. I'm into soothing indie rock stuff lately, but I go through phases of what kind of music I want to listen to. What I've actually bought is mostly pop/rock, but I'm down for anything as far as streaming goes.

- Some of the jokes in The Office are inappropriate for six year olds? Don't kid yourself, man, there's a damn blow-up doll in the first few episodes of both the original British and better-known (well, here anyway) American remake you guys are watching. The series concept was created and starred in by freakin' Ricky "suck my Golden Globes" Gervais for crying out loud. lol

I'm not judging though, my parents let me watch the Simpsons and Family Guy at very young ages, and hand to the Yin Tang Twins, both shows saved my ass on quizzes and tests. Thank the Wu Tang Clan for referential humor about historic literary works. I'd say my Magna Cum Laude Bachelor's degree and first-semester 4.0 in graduate school are ringing endorsements of trashy TV sitcoms and their positive effects on children. Laughing

- I should read Jurassic Park sometime. The trailer for The Lost World, where it was just a T-Rex's loud footstep, scared the crap out of me as a kid and I love it as well as the original movie ... same cannot necessarily be said for the actual movie The Lost World

- Good job, Xander! Where does his name hail from, by the way? Sounds like a reference.

- I played Chrono Trigger or maybe Cross (whichever is on SNES) via emulation before I stopped emulating games. I only walked around a bit, but it was pretty.

- I need to discipline myself like you've done with Xander. I totally have two screens going at once all the time. At work, it's texts and ... well, work on my desktop at ... work, but at home it can be a computer screen and a TV, or my cell phone and a TV, or my DS and a TV ... no wonder my eyesight sucks.

What classical music are you listening to, Dan? It's cool that you're introducing it to Xander at a young age.

I'm not into seeing Brokeback Mountain, either, and it's not the whole gay thing, either. Just not my kind of movie. No gun fights, car chases, explosions, super heroes, or aliens.

Glad you're liking Chrono Trigger and GS Dark Dawn. I loved both those games.

I've made it halfway through Chronotrigger but then I quit.  I really want to beat it though.

Heath Ledger will always be who he was in Knight's Tale to me.  The Joker was something different, something magical.

I love classical music.  It is good that you are playing it for your kid.  More kids should listen to it so they can learn how to appreciate it.

I've played through Chrono Trigger multiple times now. I love that game. That Prof. Layton game was a lot of fun too.

Good job Xander! I need to go back and collect all the other items in that game, and then further frustrate myself with the flying races.

The Humble Bundle and PSN sales were awesome and cheap this week. That's always a good combo.

I like to remember Heath in 10 Things I Hate About You because the Joker, and Robin went to the same high school.

Glad to hear you took the plunge with the .99 cent sale on PSN. I took the plunge with the Telltale games given I'm such a big fan myself of their work. I'm still holding off in playing Sam and Max given that my "Little One" wants to watch me as I play. Can't get her to watch clone wars or the office though. she see's snips in clone wars and is immedaly turned off given she assumes she's only in there to fit her demographic.
