I just started what will be my first full playthrough of Dragon Age Origins.   I chose to go with a dwarf warrior...and I havr to say, the first hour has already seen me betrayed by a conniving sibling.

I wasnt expecting that shit.

Any tips or advice?  I know Snee will have some.

well, I go with mages with these games, because it lets me kind of survey the battle and organize my party during battles.  Now, it's pretty tough on PC, but I heard it's easier on consoles.  If so, maybe you want to turn the difficulty up... I heard it can be boring as a warrior on consoles, but other people enjoy it.

My only advice, is to have fun.  The game opens up after a while and you can go anywhere u please and it's quite nice.

I actually like how magic is treated in this world, and I enjoyed the mage's back story.  I watched my brother play the dwarf, but I don't know what it's like as an elf. Overall, I really like the universe because it is so dark and bleak but there's soul to it.

I love Dragon Age.  I finished it a few days ago.  It was probably my 10th playthrough.  Great game.

That's cool.  I just finished the game as a dalish elf, but I remember a bit about the dwarf noble.

I started playing this game and was loving it but got distracted and didn't go back. I have the original game for PS3 and the ultimate edition for 360 even though that's supposed to be the worst version for glitches.

Stop playing Rainbow Moon and play some DAO alongside my playthrough

I was a human noble the first time. I believe my second time I was going to go with an elven mage. It's awesome how each character build has its' own origin story. Smile

For sure....of all the origins I thought the dwarven noble was pretty interesting. ..I cant really remember too much about the other origins though

My advice is to play as conservative as possible. Play it safe, make sure you're always above half health, and pay attention to every party member. Otherwise you can get overwhelmed without realizing it.

Yeah normal difficulty is still a bit rough for me.  Gonna stick with it though

Oh God! This game again! I re-rolled like 4 times. Seriously. I ended up playing with a guide to finish it, because if you roll the wrong way you will be serioulsy effed in the end, or have a hard time very soon. I put a ton of hours in this game, but I thought it was hard. I'm an idiot too by the way, so only advice is if you don't want to waste time, feel free to look up some guides, without spoilers of course. It was a great game!

Care to elaborate on that a bit?  I don't want to have to reroll another two times before I get the gist of it

At certain points along the game you get a chance to recruit characters, but you have to do things in a certain order for them to join.  As for skills, my  skills weren't developed properly. Either way, I wasn't able to recruit many of these characters or didn't level my skills  right, so I got screwed. I didn't even know about these extra characters until I read guides. There is no way to level grind outside of missions, so if you spec wrong, the game will destroy you. Again, coming from the village idiot here. LOL! Cool I wouldn't take advice from me. I think I ended up using a mage with very strong Ice AoE spells that would just freeze entire rooms, slowing enemies down enough to cut 'em down. That or a fire type mage that would bomb out entire rooms for me. Cheater, I know!

got me. I got this game for my bro and he seems to love it. Unlike some other titles by Bioware like Mass Effect.

I have zero love for the first Mass Effect.....I became a fan with the release of ME2.

Weird...i thought you'd played DAO?

Can't say that I have. That game came out around the time EA was stupid enough to try out their oNline pass system. If I recall I think that game might've had it, I'm not really sure anymore but because of EA's poor decisions I didn't bother with the game.

it was around the time that EA tried out the online pass crap.

God, let's hope we never go back to that in the world of gaming.  I look at it as EA's unsuccessful attempt to put used game retailers out of business

amen to that! We don't need a repeat. It's why you'll still see me beating that dead horse to a bloody pulp in my blogs or tweets. I'm not letting it go till I knwo for certain that practice is well and truely dead.

but untill then all is forgiven with EA and me since they are giving the online pass code out for free to all of their games that had them. I'm just slowly getting to these titles I missed so I'll get to DAO eventually.
