In this edition of STRATOS, we recap Halifax Scramble and prepare for PAX14!

Hello again from Studio Mudprints, and welcome back to STRATOS! Let's kick this edition off with a look at what whent down on August 16 at Halifax Scramble!

We had quite a decent turnout at The Last Game Store, and lots of exotic shooting games were played and enjoyed by all that came! Everything from Super Famicom classics like Cosmo Gang: The Video and Pop'n Twinbee to the very latest shmup releases from Japan including GeSen Love and Bullet Soul: Infinite Burst were there, with super-heavy emphasis on Dremcast shooterd from NG: DEV.TEAM and Hucast Games! Leading up to the event, Studio Mudprints successfully completed the Summer Dreams Block, which consised of five reviews for five days featuring all of the games on display at the show! If you haven't checked them out yet on Press Pause Radio or Youtube, here is the whole block for your viewing pleasure!

Halifax Scramble S featured a few different competitions, including a Trivia session, a Score Rush (XBLIG) tourney by Xona Games and a Bullet Heaven score attack in Neo-XYX in which thethree top competitors won awesome prizes, care of HuCast Games and NG:DEV.TEAM!

The trivia was too easy for this guy!

All in all, Halifax Scramble S was highly successful, and another even is already being planned for year's end!

It's just about that time again! PAX Prime is this weekend, and come Thurday, I'll be on a plane making my way across the continent in a grueling three-legged journey that will leave me decimated when paired with the jetlag I'll sure have to face. It's looking like it might just be one of the best yet though, so stay tuned to Press Pause Radio for all kinds of nifty, crazy content! Best of all, we're aremed with a new laptop, meaning that unlike PAX East 2013, which left us crippled with nothing more than a netbook from 2008, we'll actually have some decent video footage this time around. Nice!

I'll be at PAX, too!  If you see someone with a Pac-Man backpack with ghosts all over it, that might be me!

Some of those look fun, but way too hard. I never could get into shmups, cause they always lowered my self-esteem.

sounds like you had a blast with that event. Too bad I couldn't attend. I'd love to get me some Deathsmiles. Thanks for the links. I'm trying to keep up with my youtube viewing.Good luck at PAX, whatever fun can be found that.

Neo-XYX looks fantastic. Lucky I still have my Dreamcast.

I was reading the list of games The Smithsonian picked for it's Art of Video Games Exhibit back in 2012 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Art_of_Video_Games#Games_exhibited). They labeled the shooters "Target" as their genre designation. I thought that was kinda funny.
