MIA March Madness: Round 1 [UPDATE: VOTING CLOSED!]

Which defunct franchise is most missed? You decide!

UPDATE: Voting has been closed for round 1!  We're tallying votes and will be posting the results today along with round 2 matchups.  Even though you'll still be able to vote here (we don't have the means to close voting on the polls completely at this time), no new votes will be counted from here on out - so check out round 2 instead!

March may almost be over, but it’s not too late for us to celebrate the month with a little madness of our own.  During March Madness, even those with little to no interest in college hoops get down for a little bracketology – bragging rights and office pools being the prize for those that pick it right.  Well, we’re not a sports site and we’re not going to pretend to be one now.  We do want to get in on some of that bracket action though, so I’m happy to announce what may very well be the first annual MIA March Madness!

MIA is a popular and rather regular feature here at PixlBit.  It’s where we get to pick up franchises and games from the past, dust them off and present them for a current generation treatment.  We’ve done numerous MIA articles over the past year or two, and I’ve hand-selected 16 entrants to participate in a tournament that will crown 2013’s Most Wanted MIA Franchise!

The entrants have been pitted against each other and it’s up to you, the reader and community member, to select who comes out victorious.  Round 1 will last a couple of days and then we’ll post results and round 2 matchups for you to vote on again.  This will continue until we crown the people’s champion!

Initial matchups have been determined by a random draw, so blame my hat if you don’t like them!  There are 8 matchups this round, so remember to vote for each one, and may the most missed franchise win!

Happy voting!

Really?! Viewtiful Joe beating out DarkStalkers?!  It's all good, ActRaiser is whooping some ass, even though I like Dino Crisis too :P

I'm with you on that one, but apparently I'm the only one on staff here to whom the phrase "just GO for it!" sounds like nails on a chalkboard.

I voted for Viewtiful and Dino Crisis simply because those were the ones I played out of the options, so I know I really like Joe, and remember liking Dino Crisis. Having said that, I was a bit surprised it was beating Darkstalkers, myslf.

Viewitful Joe is beating Darkstalkers? I like VJ but I call bull on that one! Joe's hitbox is way too low. Capcom needs to patch that!

I can't see the results. All I get after I vote is a heading. :(

That's weird, staff member JD had the same issue. Try a refresh on that page and see if that works. It's working in Chrome for me...

I shut down chrome and restarted. The only thing that change is the voting button is now gone so while I could vote early I cannot vote often. Let me try something. BRB

Fixed. See comment below.

Warning: Poll results will not show if you are using Chrome. The good news is you can vote repeatedly. LOL

OK, I logged out and cleared my cache. Now it works in Chrome.

C'mon Dino Crisis,Lunar, & Onimusha! Show me love! Making me choose between Streets Of Rage and Legacy Of Kain, though? That's just harsh. I love em equally!

What about Eternal Darkness Ben?

I'd be up for "Eternal Darkness" getting an HD re-release on other consoles,Pete. Sadly, I missed it on account I had no gamecube. While we're on that subject, capcom should also re-release the stellar looking RE-1 remake. My survival horror collection hasn't gotten much love from developers lately.

As much as I love Eternal Darkness, I voted for Bushido Blade. I've been wanting a first person Bushido Blade for the Wii since forever.

Rogue Moogle on the loose! LOL

There's also very little chance of a ED sequel or remake but then I am the patron moth of lost causes. :)

Ha ha! Hey, I'd adore a sequel to ED, but I have little faith that it would be a worthy successor. I think a lot of what made that game great was a product of its time, and I don't trust people to attempt it again without mucking it up.

Angelo Grant Staff Writer

That was my hardest decision on here to be honest.

If ED wins, we all agree to call it "ED: Sanity's Requiem" as opposed to its full title for yucks, right?

Well, at least I'm with the majority on three series (Lunar, Onimusha, and ActRaiser).  Everything else though, I guess very few of us have fond memories for the Mutant League games or Bushido Blade.  Also, it pains me to see The Lost Vikings getting clobbered, although the game is quite old and Blizzard has done very little to remind people it exists (outside of a tiny WoW appearance).

I loved the Mutant League games - they were the only sports games at the time that changed the formula and made it a fun video game experience, the trick plays were great!

No love for Mutant League besides Jeffrey and Ryan?! Out of all of these series, that would be the one I'd love to see come back the most. The genesis carts usually go for a pretty decent price online. Plus that was back when EA wasn't nearly so deplorable! Lost Vikings was a great series too.

Fun stuff! I love these kind of odd March Madness type brackets. I wish I had played more of these games.
