Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. 2 Review

This flight game is not meant to be played with anything but a flight stick.

I'm not much of a flight sim guy. The games have never really been forced in front of me, so I've never really had a reason to get into them. As you might imagine, Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. 2 is mostly foreign territory for me, as the title straddles the line between flight sim and arcadey flight game. With the exception of The Sky Crawlers and one of the Ace Combat games, I really have little experience with the genre and I have few expectations of what it should be. With that being said, H.A.W.X. 2 didn't make a convincing argument for me to invest more time in the genre. Unvaried objectives and out of place, filler UAV missions truly drag down the experience in the game's single player mode.

Triple Throwing Sports Review

Not a great catch.

Do you like to throw big sticks? Do you like to hurl discs and watch them soar through the air? Do you like to swing hammers around and let them loose, seeing how far they fly? Do you want all of this without the hassle of other Olympic events? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, Triple Throwing Sports may be the game for you.

Worms Reloaded Review

If you're thinking this is the iteration that reinvents the gameplay of Worms 2... think again.

For twelve years now, Team 17 has released countless iterations or the Worms franchise. Being a huge fan of Worms: Armageddon back in 1999, I was curious to see what Worms had done with over a decade of changes and countless iterations of the series. Upon playing the game, it was pretty disappointing to see that not only has the game changed very little in its long history of releases, but during gameplay I found the physics and weaponry to be slightly inferior to its classic '90s counterpart.

Space Invaders Infinity Gene Review

BOOMSPLOSION.

1978. When I began a new game in Space Invaders Infinity Gene, my score ranking was 1978. Coincidence? Hardly. 1978 is the year Space Invaders, by Taito, originally made its way into arcades, bars, and any other locations that could store a classic arcade title. Space Invaders Infinity Gene is based upon the evolution of a genre first solidified in 1978, and any chance the opportunity presents itself, the game makes sure its player knows this.

Nier Review

It's not Nier-ly as good as it seems.

I've seen plenty of games facing an identity crisis throughout my many years of gaming, but Nier is definitely one of the worst. A jack of all trades, but master of none, Nier features subpar implementation of concepts from the RPG, action-adventure, platforming, SHMUP genres, as well as several others. The end result is a sloppy game whose concepts feel forced together, with pieces that just don't match up.

Sonic Adventure Review

11 years of improving game design does a great job of highlighting the numerous issues present in Sonic's first true foray into 3D.

Sonic Adventure is Sonic's true debut in 3D, and as such, the gameplay that once defined the series has been drastically altered in order to accommodate expectations for a 3D game at the time of original release. As time has gone on and Sega has continued to make games in this style, gamers have come to loathe Sonic titles due to this fact. Regardless of all the hate, I always felt like Sonic Adventure was a genuinely good game. Revisiting it 11 years later has proved otherwise.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game Review

A good game full of depth and strategy that is unfortunately held back by several issues.

My feelings for Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game are honestly a bit complicated. Coming from someone whose opinion isn't clouded by bias since I have never read the comics or seen the movie, I find that in some respects I really like the game and want to ignore its flaws, whereas on the other hand I'd like nothing more than to never play it again. Were the gameplay only a bit more consistent and less unbalanced, I would have nothing but praise for Scott Pilgrim vs.The World: The Game. But as it stands, there are many aspects of the game which provide nothing but a frustrating and tedious gaming experience.

Puzzle Dimension Review

This budget-priced puzzle game delivers an engaging and thoughtful experience.

Kororinpa. That's what I first thought when I saw Puzzle Dimension. I was most definitely mistaken, as Puzzle Dimension is nothing like the Wii marble rolling game. Instead, Puzzle Dimension is a pure puzzle game that requires players to make calculated movements and jumps to first collect the flowers in a level and then make their way back to the exit.

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions Review

Four Spider-Men are better than one.

It seems that each and every year a new Spider-Man game is released, and every year that Spider-Man game seems to be a disappointment. My last exposure to a Spider-Man game was Spider-Man 2, which featured open-world exploration and tasks. The game controlled well and was moderately enjoyable, but the structure was a bit too loose, causing the game to eventually become tedious and boring. Shattered Dimensions, the latest Spider-Man game, is quite the opposite. For the first time ever, the essence of Spider-Man has truly been captured through the game's characters, levels, presentation, and solid gameplay.

Professor Layton and the Unwound Future Review

A great story and solid puzzles provides for a very enjoyable experience.

The first Professor Layton title made its way onto North American shores over two years ago, delivering a puzzle experience unlike any other. The professor's first tale left its mark on western gamers and paved the way for more titles in the series to find their way over. Now, with the release of the third title in the series, Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, comes a Professor Layton game that feels fresh and new, while only slightly tweaking the familiar formula.
