Random Monday...With Lego

I was going to type up this crazy review about Kratos is Pissed: The continuing saga (there’s like six games right?) but I didn’t finish the game yet, and some of my favorite people came to visit which means my Lego town gets rocked by three under 10 year olds.

It was an epic battle between the Lego Police, and a gang I created called Team Chicken Man

This confused the three year old in the group who felt that Chicken Man is not a bad guy, yet he flew around with one of the Iron Man figures trying to stop Team Chicken Man.

More carnage from Iron Man and Team Chicken Guy. This little battle lasted a couple of days, with the older kids taking turns building up the police team with random minifigs to fight off Team Chicken Guy, and the older kids played with more of the Super Hero sets, and built some structures.

When not assembling a Lego town, I did add a couple of sets to the collection. The first was found at Target when I was picking up a notebook (What happened to the super cheap college ruled one-subject notebooks? Next time school starts and an Office Depot has their $.10 notebooks, I’m buying a couple of cases) I’ve been eyeing another Police Vehicle for a while to add to the force. I also picked up a couple of minifig packs in hopes of pulling the figure with the award (I didn’t).

The second pick is well, I couldn’t wait for them to hit Target, and with the Buy 1 Get 1 50% at Toys R Us it came out to maybe a buck or two more after taxes I picked up the two smaller Iron Man 3 sets

I hate to do reviews on sets because they are all cool in their own way, but the Iron Man vs Mandarian: Ultimate Showdown set is really underwhelming. For a $13 dollar set, there really isn’t much to it, but a small vehicle, Iron Man, and Mandarian. Only reason I bought it was because it is a different Iron Man suit from the Extreamis Sea Port Battle, and because I wanted to collect/need another set for the discount.

*Tangent: Ok I get that Toys R Us gets exclusive sets, early release sets, and I know they like to kick up the price, but holy cow, the markups have gotten insane. The A Wing has a $10 markup compared to a Target or Walmart. The only reason I bought the Iron Man sets is because with the B1G1 50% off is because after the “deal” it comes out to around 1 or 2 bucks suggest retail. I’m holding off on buying the Malibu set until it hits Target next month. /end random Lego rant

The family shot of my old Iron Man figure, the new Iron Man figures, and the first appearance of War Machine to Lego.

We had a random special election last week. Best part about it was that local news was joking about the really small turnout, because the ballot had one race. ONE. When I went to my local polling place there were three volunteers (one reading a newspaper on the couch) and the other two helped to sign me in, for the one race ballot. I really could have just filled out my ballot in front of them, but I had to walk it to the little booth. When I was done the volunteer asked if I could send people to go vote. Yep, 1 voter, and 3 volunteers.

I decided to try these again. Last time I tried something similar it was my first year of college and it ended up stinking up the dorm room. Those didn’t taste too good, but these microwavable pork rinds were not bad.

I tried buying some of the uniform updates for NCAA 13, but they were not available. I guess EA missed out on an extra two bucks from the two uniform packs I couldn’t buy. I don’t care for Under Armour, but it was the packs that have the new uniforms for Maryland, Texas Tech, Northwestern, Hawai’i, and I think South Carolina.

Simpsons Tapped Out had another game/tv show crossover this week. I missed the episode because I was battling with the cousins in Team Chicken Man vs the Lego Police.

I think buying Mr. Burns’ costume is a ripoff, but I had enough donuts in the stockpile so I can have him walk around as Fruit-Bat-Man.

The final bit of random update is I watched the NCAA Selection Show, and the Mountain West Conference has five representatives, one more than the ACC. I remember when everyone said the strength of the conference would take a dip once BYU and Utah left, but having five teams out of nine dancing is pretty strong. I feel Air Force and Wyoming should have been included in the NIT, but both found tournament bits in the CIT, and CBI respectively, so in total 7 of the 9 current members are in the post season. Good stuff.

Well that’s all for now, more later!

That battle sounds pretty epic! I am always miffed at TRU Lego prices, so I feel your pain!

The battle was fun. It got pretty random but everyone involved enjoyed themselves. TRU is nuts with their prices. If they sold them at "normal" retail, I would spend more time there than at a Target or Walmart

Pork Rinds... I tried some of those microwavable pork rinds and I thought they were pretty good, I plan on buying some more.

They're pretty good. I want to buy a box of them, but the local store only has them by the pack

I knew it was Mr. Burns in that costume! Who could possibly have legs that skinny other than him? Microwavable pork rinds? What alternate dimension did those spawn from? Sounds kinda interesting. I like those Lego Iron Men and the Chicken Man is cool.

I missed the episode, and I need to watch it on Hulu. I like that more of the characters are having alternate costumes. I do wish that this costume was free so more folks could enjoy it.

Gotta try the microwavable pork rinds. They sound terrible, but taste good.

I do like the Iron Man figures. They are awesome, and Chicken Man is my favorite out of the current minifig sets

The lego prices are astounding.  I noticed in your picture that you have your legos separated in bins.  How do you sort/organize them?  I'm trying to come up with something easy to use, but not to space consuming.

Oh Lego...

Well I separate by color and if it's a plate or brick. I have one bin for say red bricks, and another bin for red plates. I also have a separate bin for wheels, glass, and then it gets crazy OCD. I have a couple of bins that hold the pieces of sets in ziplock bags. On the bags I have a sticker with the set name, set number, and on the bin there is a sticker with the set number and name. I want to separate all my sets like this for the sets I really have no space to display. The bins all stack up and take up a small section of a wall. I like this solution because the bins are labeled, and I can find everything (at some point I'll do a blog about my Lego)

Thanks that's helpful. I started separating by piece type and well...that was impossible.  I may try the color route.

Wow, I tried that once, and that is a pain. I forgot to add that I started tinkering with placing the one stud and two stud plates in small containers so they're easier to find because they tend to get lost in the plate bins.

Haha... love the Legos as always. I made a Robin Hood MOC at some point and intended to post pics, but then the 1up thing happened. Any upcoming sets you are eyeing? Or do you just go for the good deals long after release?

Man that Robin Hood MOC must be cool. When you get a chance post pictures. As for upcoming sets, the ones that caught my attention are the new Castle sets, Coast Guard, and Jabba's Sail Barge.

The Castle and Coast Guard sets I'm buying when they are released because growing up I always wanted the Castle sets but were too expensive. Now they're expensive but I can buy them. Coast Guard because I like the movie The Guardian. Jabba's I'm holding out on because it might be crazy expensive like new Jabba's Palace.

That was an epic Lego battle. lol

Sorry to hear about the price gouging.

The was a heck of a battle.

It sucks that TRU does that but since they can sell early, nothing stops them. I'm just going to pick up sets from there during their B1G1 50%, or have coupons that make their prices more reasonable from now on
