Good morning Pixlpeeps! This morning as my alarm went off it was the first time in a long time that I was actually asleep as it beeped. Usually I’m up 30 minutes before I spend that time watching the local news. How are you good people? We are one week away from Force Friday. Toys R Us is opening at 12:01am and there are supposed to do a lot of things to celebrate the event. The one item I want to get is this bad boy

It’s the new Millennium Falcon. I have the set from 2004 and I skipped the last version so this is a must buy for me. I also want to get the new Tie Fighter, and X-Wing but I can wait for those. So are you guys/gals/little green men in outer space ready for the weekend? I am. I think I might either hit the beach, or spend a lot of time sleeping. Let’s get Quick Hits started!

Chris Watches…

Wrestling Weekend: Last weekend the WWE invaded Brooklyn and had two Specials, NXT Takeover, and Summer Slam. The WWE obviously pushed Summer Slam because its supposed to be the big Pay Per View not named Wrestlemania, but honestly the NXT Show was superior to Summer Slam. NXT was two hours and it was filled with quality matches that made sense. Summer Slam was four hours that in reality could have been condensed to maybe 2-3 hours. The match of the weekend was easily Bayley vs. Sasha Banks for the Women’s NXT Title. It had drama, it was the end of a storyline, and it had the fans chanting during the entire match. This match is Wrestlemania quality in terms of fan involvement and how good it was. The best part was after the match when Charlotte, Becky Lynch, and Sasha Banks came to the ring to celebrate what happened. They stood in the ring holding up their four fingers because they were dubbed the 4 Horsewomen because what they accomplished in NXT.

I feel that the NXT does such a good job in selling the Women’s Division compared to the WWE where every chance they get they push the whole “Diva Revolution.” Originally I was for it but it has become a joke. Its always three teams fighting each other and every chance the announcers get they always talk about how Women’s Sports are doing well and bring up Ronda Rousey, the USWNT, etc. The difference between WWE, NXT, and the athletes they mention is that the last two promote them as athletes. The main roster pushes the “Divas Revolution” like it’s almost a sideshow. They might as well say, “Come see the lady wrestlers do tumbles, and jumps”! The main roster is wasting the top NXT Women’s Talent. They need to stop these three person groups and have them compete for the WWE Title. Also please get rid of the term Divas Division. It is stupid. Call it the Women’s Division, get rid of the butterfly belt, have a normal championship belt, add a tag team championship and have quality matches. The fans will get into it. It will add more quality to the 3 hour Raw instead of the garbage mid card crap they throw out there, and the WWE will get more female fans.

Once Bayley moves up to the main roster I hope that the WWE does the right thing and teams these four as the 4 Horsewomen. The Women’s Division needs a good faction that people can get behind, and plus they are all awesome wrestlers.

Periscope: Have any of you folks tried out the Periscope app? Its made by Twitter, and its a social app where people broadcast various things and people can interact with them. A lot of news shows do it as well as random folks doing things. This is my thing to watch before I fall asleep. There some people who post from England and its interesting to see what's going on in different parts of the world as I am getting ready for bed.

Chris Takes Pictures

This week I spent some time sitting next to the neighborhood lake and it was HUMID! Yeah I picked the wrong time to sit outside, but I was fooled into thinking it wasn’t that bad because it was overcast. So as I sat outside for 30 minutes before calling it a day and heading back to the comforts of Air Conditioning, I snapped a couple of pictures

There was a nice canopy of clouds. They didn’t bring any rain to the valley, but the mountain areas had crazy lightning for a couple of days.

The base of the water and path with the bench I was sitting on. It was nice to just sit and listen to the water. I would have stayed a bit more if it wasn’t so humid.

Thanks for checking out my pictures! I’ll try to post more next weekend. Hopefully I get some shots of Force Friday

Pickups

Games

I added a couple of cheap games to the library this week

A trip to the mall last night, I really didn’t want to check out GameStop, but I had my 3DS with me and I wanted to get some Mii’s so after walking around I spotted this game in the case

Who knew there was a Driver game on the 3DS? I tried a couple of missions in Story Mode and it feels like the original Driver…with a ton of cussing.

On the iPad I saw this game and it looked like fun. Turns out it looks/plays like an updated version of Rad Racer on the NES

Horizon Chase is what I’ve been playing this the past week. It is such a fun game.

Lego

I started Force Friday a week early when I made a trip to Walmart to check out the Clearance section and there is a bunch of stuff but only a handful of Lego sets. The Artic Base is gone which means they were probably sold at a super cheap price (I’m bummed to have missed it) but there were a couple of sets that they only had one of, and I’ve been watching. I decided to jump on them before they were gone

I added the Star Wars Rebels Ghost, and Phantom sets to the collection. The cool part is just like in the animated show you can dock the Phantom into the Ghost. It turns out after building both sets I was missing one character from the series and it was available in another set, so the next day I hit Target for this guy

Surprisingly the Speeder Bikes are really solid (much more than the speeder bikes from the Jedi sets)

The complete team in front of the Ghost

The Phantom, and The Ghost

And The Speeder Bike set

Ok for my music pickups I bought these albums during two separate trips to the Mom and Pop shop. I hit the usual $1.99 Buy 5 Get 5 free wall, and picked up 20 CDs on the first trip, and 10 on the second.

Trip Number 1. It was Saturday when the store was busy but everyone seems to huddle around the LP section, which means the $1.99 wall was just me, and a random guy. I picked up

Barenaked Ladies Greatest Hits, and the Beastie Boys. When I opened the Beastie Boys it was 50 Cent Get Rich Or Die Trying. Oh well. I now have a physical copy of 50 to go with the digital copy I got from Google Play awhile back.

Yep Orleans and Liz Phair. Turns out I already own Liz Phair so this will probably go in the donate pile

I bought Shaggy because it was the stuff I had on my computer in college. This has the original Boombastic and not the one that borrowed Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get It On (I have that version already)

I bought Tavares for Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel, and Les Paul is something new to listen to

The three CD Phil Spector set is supposed to be a box set. I didn’t care about the missing slip cover, pin, and I think Christmas album. I wanted the Darlene Love singles along with everyone else who worked with Phil Spector.

The Samba Album I bought to have some Samba in my library and because it was printed in Europe. The best part is on the back it says something like “Cover was designed with Clip Art”

The Atlantic Starr album has the song Always that is a romantic song, but it reminds me of going to K-Mart to buy a GI Joe. It was a big radio hit at the time and it was playing when my mom took my brother and I to buy some GI Joe stuff. WCW I thought was going to be the good entrance music of some of the talent but it turns out to be the entrance music when WCW did their whole rebrand. It sucks.

I started buying some Billy Joel music on CD. I think I have one of these albums on vinyl, so it will save me the trouble of ripping it to iTunes. Innocent Man has Uptown Girl  (which I like) and reminds me of Stepbrothers *There's some cussing in the video

To round out my visit I added New Order and Aerosmith’s Greatest Hits.

Trip Number 2. The owner made a comment that I have a very diverse selection of music and said that I was lucky to find one of the CDs because she just put it on the floor and because of the NWA flick anything NWA/Cube/Dre/Easy E has been flying off the shelf.

Boyz N The Hood and More Dirty Dancing. I used to watch Boyz N The Hood all the time (why didn’t Ricky make a cut or something other than run in a straight line?) One of my favorite Easter Eggs in GTA San Andreas is the guy walking around in the shirt that Tre is wearing on the album cover. I had no idea there was a more Dirty Dancing Soundtrack. DD is such a good soundtrack so I’m hoping this one is just as good.

I’m not big on Live Albums but its ELO and I’ve been on an ELO kick for a couple of weeks. I love 10 Things I Hate About You (I loved movies like 10 Things and Clueless are based on Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew and Jane Austen’s Emma) Anyways I hoping to enjoy 10 Things Soundtrack as much as I enjoyed the Clueless Soundtrack.

Oh the Luniz were big in high school especially the track I Got 5 On It

I can’t believe the kid who standing next to me put this down for a Lil Wayne CD. His loss, my gain. I found a random 1987 print of The Beach Boys.

Because of talking to KnightDriver about The Cranberries on his post here, I found the album and decided to add it to the library. I’m interested to listen to it because other than two songs, its all new to me. I added another Missy Elliot album.

My final two albums I picked up because Adam Carolla always talks about him. I also got props from the owner of the store

I’m going to check out the John Hiatt hype that Carolla always talks about.

Alright Pixlbit its time for me to grab some breakfast. Have a good weekend and stay cool because damn its humid right now! Oh I forgot to share this

Saw it on Reddit and I thought it was a good use of a customized jersey

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

So for my song of the week, this is found on the Phil Spector set and it’s such a cool Darlene Love song. It reminds me of listening to the oldies station at night.

I can't wait to go stand in line tonight at Toys R Us. Apparently they are giving away a special Force Friday brick, and hopefully they will have tons of Lego sets. I went to check out TRU yesterday and the Star Wars aisle is empty which hopefully means they are getting ready, but they have tons of the Disney Infinity figures.

Yeah it sucks about the album but I'll probably run into another copy.

I'm not convinced Driver on the 3DS exists. I only know "Zombie," "Linger," and "Dreams" by The Cranberries.

I wasn't either, but I am enjoying the game. Yep the big three Cranberries songs, but I was never too found of Zombie.

Sky photos are really cool. They also show you how much dust you have on your sensor. I've got to clean mine.

I got a bunch of Beastie Boys albums lately. I got turned on to them because Neil deGrasse Tyson uses one of their songs for his astronomy podcast.

Songs in the Attic and Turnstiles are my favorite Billy Joel albums.

Ha! That Eagles jersey is funny. I gotta tell my friend Mark about that one.

I didn't know that about sky photos, but that is a good indicator. I've been luke warm on the Beastie Boys, never really cared for them growing up, but now I have an appreciation for what they have done. I'm still partial to Intergalatic because of the intro and the memories it triggers.

Nice, hopefully I get into Billy Joel after listening to these albums.

I got a lot of the Beastie Boys albums out from the library and bought a few. The song Neil deGrasse Tyson uses for his podcast is Ch-Check It Out from the To the 5 Boroughs album. I remember the Licenced to Ill album coming out. That was huge. But I wasn't a fan until I saw Awesome: I Fuckin' Shot That concert video. What a great show that was! I still have mixed feelings about the albums, but I have to listen to them a bit more before I really know what I feel.

I'm a cautious Billy Joel fan but that Songs from the Attic live album is something special. It has a very different sound from the polished production of his studio albums.
