Well good morning and Happy September 1st Pixlpeeps! I’m excited because the weather should start getting cooler around here and soon it will be “cold” (for you East Coast folks our cold is 70 degrees) I decided to hold off on my Monday Blog because I wanted to recap what went on in August…and add a little more beef than my usual this is what I played.

So in August I started only four new games. I decided to not count the endless games I play on the iPad because there really is no ending. I usually just mark them as finished when I hit a certain point of boredom or frustration.

I also finished three games this month, which is good. I am actually taking down the games from Mount Backlog. So what is in store for September? I’m looking forward to only adding Lego Dimensions to the September list. Also since I’m nearing the end of the year I’d like to take down games from Mount Backlog instead of adding more to it. Current count on Backloggery is I have finished 22 games this year. Technically 23 if you count the fact that I won the National Title in NCAA Football a couple of days ago. I’m going to try my best and stick to my not buying games for the rest of the year…but if something cheap and sounds interesting comes along, I can’t make any promises.

I haven’t booted up my PS4 or 360 for a week. To be fair the only console I booted up was the PS3 and that’s to get my college football fix. Since the season has officially started with a really good game between Montana and NDSU, I can’t wait for the Aztecs to take the field.

NCAA Football 14 – PS3: I decided to “leave” Old Dominion after beating Georgia in the Fiesta Bowl for the National Title, and go to Washington State and build up that program (all I did was create a new save for Wazzu.) So far the Cougars are 6-1 with the lone loss coming from a blowout at Stanford. The Cougars beat #7 ASU, and Oregon, and are headed to their first bowl in a decade.

Driver Renegade – 3DS: I bought this game last week and Sunday while watching random sports or Netflix I started playing the Story Mode (there’s also a Career Mode but in Story Mode you can unlock cars for Career Mode if you play on hard.) From what I saw Tanner is no longer on the police force and he’s a hired driver with the help of a Senator is cleaning up the streets of New York. The presentation is a lot like Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars with the comic look. There is a lot of cussing, and you go around taking out various bad guys until I’m assuming you find the head bad guy, which is probably the last mission.

There are 20 missions in this game and after maybe an hour I have already finished half of them on “hard”. It’s actually not really hard, so I can only imagine how much of a cakewalk easy is. Once I finish this I might check out the Career Mode and see if its worth giving a go.

Horizon Chase – iPad: This is the game I mentioned last week that reminds me of an updated version of Rad Racer on the NES. The presentation is similar in that you are racing on streets outside of the city and you can see the various landmarks on the horizon.

The graphics are nice and I would describe them as nice N64/PS quality with the cleaned up polygons. The car models are familiar vehicles but without the actual names.

Each section is made up of three races per group. Each race is your typical start from the back and work your way to the front of the pack within three laps mold. On the track there are bonus coins you collect to boost your score, along with cans of gasoline to refill your gas tank, and bonus canisters of boost. To unlock the next race you have to finish in the Top 5. Once the race ends, everything you collected turns into bonus points for your score and if you score the target amount you unlock a bonus race. In this race if you finish 3rd you unlock a car upgrade, and if you finish 1st you unlock both the upgrade a new vehicle. The upgrades get added to all your cars in your garage.

The points you collect also unlock the next section of races, which means you will be going back to replay races to get a better position and earn more points. As of this blog I am on the 5th section out of 8 total sections. I need to start using other cars with better handling because the later missions have a lot of turns and it gets difficult to control at high speeds.

The AI is set on their set paths and will knock you out of the way. Also if you bump them, they get a boost forward. This can get frustrating especially when they slow down in a turn, get a little bump and are three or four car lengths in ahead in an instant. I’m loving this game because it’s a throwback to the old NES games and at $2.99 it is a steal in the App Store.

WWE Super Card – iPad: I have played 700+ games since I installed it last week (games are like a minute long) and I have built a pretty solid team. My King of the Ring lineup lost only one match and I ended up the KotR Champion

The key to this is checking in on your team every so often, filling up their stamina bar, and having strong cards in your lineup. I haven’t played in a couple of days because I wanted to try out other games, but I’ll probably give it a spin during lunch.

Marvel Future Fight – iPad: I got lucky with this game the past week when I actually read the information and found out that I could upgrade two of my characters

I upgraded Iron Man to a 3 star character and Black Widow to 2 stars. I also completed the 7-day check-in to unlock

The Hulk Buster.

Simpsons Tapped Out – iPad: I’m still playing the month long Monorail storyline and I am surprised by how much my friends are collecting the duct tape rolls (the currency to unlock more track) It seems everyone is checking in every hour compared to my lazy once or twice a day. I did purchase the premium gym, which unlocked the body builder Marge character

Currently she’s beating up a guy who scared Homer or something like that.

I have to mention this because on Sunday Night I watched part of the MTV VMA and then saw this on Reddit. This is how I would describe what I saw

Its like the scene in The Simpsons where Grandpa Simpson tells Homer about being with It

Alright Pixlbit I am off to be productive. Don’t forget Force Friday is only a couple of days away, and my Millennium Falcon is getting closer.

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

i was reading about Horizon Chase on Touch Arcade.  Looks good. I need to get a controller for my ipad, then I will be chillin.

I got my PS4 yesterday.  Downloading the update for Madden right now.  Excited.

The on screen controls are not bad. I use the default controls but there are a lot of control setups including using a controller. Its a lot of fun and for 3 bucks, its a steal.

I'm worrying that I haven't booted up my Vita in a while. I have a second PSP in a closet and one day I checked on it, and the battery was in the process of exploding (it was swelled out). I wonder if that can happen to a handheld battery if it hasn't been charged in a while. What to do.

I should check out my PSP's. I love that handheld, its a shame the nub was such a piece of crap. I too wonder if the Vita battery will do that or if Sony fixed that problem.

There's something really cool that happens in September. :)

Horizon Chase looks interesting.  Do you know who publishes it?
