Happy Friday Pixlpeeps! Once again it is really windy here in my little piece of Southern California but what can you do. As soon as I finished our little conversation (where I talk and you listen) its right back to adding records to my iTunes library. I’ve been on somewhat of a hot streak this past week adding music to the library, and at the same time discovering new stuff. For the past couple of nights I’ve been going through sections of my collection and rediscovering what I have purchased from thrift stores. I found a couple of sealed singles and albums that will probably not be opened and I found a couple of albums that I didn’t know I had on vinyl.

Yeah remember when a couple of weeks ago I ordered Madonna’s True Blue along with Like A Virgin using some Amazon credit? Well turns out I own the record as well. Who knew? Currently I am listening to

Stan Getz Quartet with Astrud Gilberto: Getz Au Go Go. From what I read it was an album recorded in 1964 in a club named Café Au Go Go. From the sound of the album it sounds like a small club, so I’m imagining when this was recorded it was intimate surroundings. When I’m finished here I have a couple of other Stan Getz albums ready to be added to iTunes.

Speaking of iTunes last week I was at 12,284 not listened to tracks in the library and at this point I am at

Well it looks like I added 3 tracks but I think I added maybe a hundred songs, and while listening to some music I rediscovered some CDs in my library.

Chris Watches

A couple of shows I watch had their season finale’s this past week: Quantico, and Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD

SHIELD: Once again the season finale would have been resolved sooner if they would have just called Tony Stark. I like that what happens in Marvel films effects SHIELD but it’s a little frustrating that they share a universe yet no superheroes show up on the show and the SHIELD cast doesn’t make cameos on the films. Heck I’d be ok with more Maria Hill, or create a character that bounces between the Show and the movies.

Quantico: The big reveal was last week and this past week was the gang trying to stop them. I’d like to rant about this a bit so I’ll go black bars for you folks who haven’t seen it. Again highlight if you want to read

Oh Quantico went with the obvious choice on the bomber instead of my favorite, the guy named Booth, because he shares a name with a certain John Wilks Booth. The ending was a little too Armageddon (the Bruce Willis, Ben Afflick flick) with Simon being the hero. The second season should be interesting with Alex joining the CIA while her friends are all FBI. How are they going to handle mama Haas being associated with Liam’s plan? Should be interesting.

In other show news I’m bummed that Agent Carter was cancelled. It was a fun show that I got to see how Howard Stark, Jarvis, and Peggy were a team.

This past weekend I went on a couple of day trips, one was back to the mission in Oceanside to check  out the museum and explore the grounds a bit further. Last time I was there we just saw the inside of the church before they closed. This time we got to experience more of the grounds.

The front of the church. It was an overcast day in Oceanside

On the far side of the compound is a garden where the first pepper tree in California lives. We weren’t allowed to walk through here because it was a tour only section

The Mission is still in use and there are Friars are living on the grounds. There were a couple standing outside talking to visitors in their robes. It just so happens that I was wearing my Tony Gwynn San Diego Padres jersey

I texted my friend if this counts as cosplay.

The museum was interesting because it was housed in the old living quarters in the Mission. The museum opens up into a side courtyard next to the church

The rest of the courtyard was closed to visitors because one of the Friars was retiring (who knew you could do that) and they were having a party. On our way out we walked around the cemetery and I snapped this picture

Thanks for looking at my pictures!

The next day we took a little caravan to a lunch for my cousin who’s graduating from college and on the way home we stopped by an Asian grocery store. I went there for one thing: Duck

If you look closely you can see my red shirt in the refection

And both are tasty.

I saw this there

Yeah there was no way I’m trying it out based on the name. Instead I went next door to the donut shop where they sell boba tea, and I went with a blended honeydew drink.

Pickups!

I added the hidden two games from Humble Bundle to my Steam library which were Strider, and some DLC for DmC: Devil May Cry.

At the Mission I bought a CD because the museum exits into the gift shop.

The lady working the counter said this was a good choice because this is what they play in the Mission Church. She also proceeded to call me hun, which in this PC world I always dig (also the lady at Quartzsite Arizona who calls me sugar at the Loves Gas Station is awesome too).

I bought two Lego Disney Blind Bags and got

Alright Pixlpeeps I am off to add more vinyl to my iTunes library, have a good weekend!

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

For today’s song of the week, I was listening to a record I added to iTunes by Jack de Mello called Music of Hawaii, and on there was a track named Ke Kali Nei Au, or Hawaiian Wedding Song. Hawaiian Wedding Song is one of my favorite Elvis songs and I thought I’d share it with you

I like this version more than the movie version with the people singing in the background.

Here is a version in Hawaiian

Have a good weekend!

it's a little jarring to see those serene pics of the mission and then those hanging ducks.  Tongue Out

I lik Astrud Gilberto.  I should listen to her more.  I think I was looking at one of her vinyl releases recently.  I've also been telling myself to listen to more old Stevie Wonder.

Oh but the ducks were sooooooo good.

I love her stuff, but damn her albums are hard to find, and I can only imagine how difficult it is to find it on vinyl. I'm really digging the whole Bossa Nova genre.

My wife makes a great duck based on a Paui Prudhomme recipe. Sadly it takes all day to make so we don't have it very often.

That has to be an amazing dish if it takes all day and its a Paul Prudhomme recipe. Sounds like a special occasion meal. Damn now I'm hungry.

It is Chris. It comes out all nice and crispy and because it cooks slowly the fat just renders out. She serves is with a spicy sweet potato egg plant gravy, candied yams and mashed potatoes. If you aren't a fan of egg plant, not to worry, they are completely dissolved in the gravy and it's completely amazing.

The meal is so good you walk away with a buzz on. Damn now I've made myself hungry..

I like that big door.

I had Quail a few weeks ago. It was good.

Oh man, that door, I spent a good five minutes just walking around it and taking pictures. At one point I really wanted to move the sign but I didn't want to be yelled at by a Friar.

I haven't had Quail in a while. I used to love eating Quail eggs because they of their size.

Don't mess with the Friars, man. Tongue Out

The Quail grossed out my neice because it's small and still looks a bit like a bird when cooked. How was I to know? It was my first time.

Haha yup, the one thing I know is that Friars carry baseball bats.
