Quick Hits: Stuff I Found

As I’m trying to get back on a normal schedule I really wanted to not do a Quick Hits today so I can get some other random tasks done like finish my Ultimate Playlist and start on the shorter version of the list for my phone but since I’ve been slacking a bit the last couple of weeks it was better for me to just get things going. Sound like a plan? Good let’s get started!

Chris Watches…

The Olympics – NBC (I Know I'm Late)

I do this after every Olympics where I miss turning on the TV and watching random sports alongside my favorites. America needs to get a squad of NBA’ers to play Handball. I want that and a Curling Gold Medal. I wish NBC carried more events live but I get why they held back on Gymnastics even though ESPN kept pushing updates to my phone. Here’s to more medals for Team USA in Tokyo and less of the dumbass antics of certain athletes.

Chris Listens To…

I am two hundred songs away from going through my favorites list and pairing it down to what I am calling the Ultimate List. This playlist will live on my iPod Touch while a smaller 100 song version will live on my phone. When I first got my phone I thought it would be fun to fill the dang thing up with music but in reality I don’t listen to the full 2,000 song playlist that currently lives on my phone. I’d like to use the extra space for taking video because I really dig the video camera on my phone. Also I figure that when I get tired of certain songs it won’t be that hard to swap them out with newer stuff or just add another playlist of another 100 songs. This way I can rediscover old favorites and hopefully balance out the number of tracks played.

As for my podcasts I’ve been skipping through portions of podcasts that just lag, while skipping some, like the Ringer’s Podcast about television because the two hosts seem to bitch about easy fixes. I finally got around to trying to listen to their take on Olympic coverage and one guy didn’t want to be bothered looking for NBC owned Channels. Seriously how hard is it to find USA, NBCSports, CNBC, and I believe Bravo? Also if your cable company allows it (freaking Frontier) the NBC App carried EVERYTHING. Useless bitching and very slanted political talk get the automatic skip or unsubscribe from me.

I haven’t really listened to anything new this past week because I’ve been working on the Ultimate Playlist but once this is done, hopefully by the end of today I will continue on my quest to listen to everything in my iTunes Library. Current count is 47,050 with 9,886 unplayed tracks. Out of that I believe 120 of those tracks are an audiobook because iBooks just doesn’t work right.

Pickups

Games

From Goodwill I found this game hiding behind some CDs

I loved playing this game on PC and I now have a copy for Playstation. I really should buy a copy for PC. Anyways comes with both discs and they are clean.

Continuing with Physical Media, after leaving Best Buy a couple of days ago I decided to make a quick stop at Office Max next door just to look around their clearance table to see what computers they are pushing on people for college and as I walked past their section of games I noticed that they were super cheap

Granted the selection wasn’t the greatest but heck there’s a couple there I want to own

Some board game goodness with Scrabble AND Monopoly, along with a collection of Cradle of Egypt Match 3 games. I bought the original Cradle of Egypt for the 3DS or DS last summer, and I liked the little story mode. Now I get to play all four. Also the best part about these games is that I don’t need the disc to play them.

I bought four Angry Birds games for the price of one iPhone copy of the game. The only drawback is that Seasons is a black screen. I don’t know why, but I can hear the music and when I go to force quit I can see the screen for a second. I think it might be a compatibility issue.  Again I don’t need the disc to play the game (some of the other games I bought I needed the disc so this is big for me)

I don’t know much about these games but they were .43 cents each so why not take a chance

I wanted to try a train simulator game but never got around to buying one until now. Costume Quest is a fun game and eventually when the disc plays nice with my external DVD drive I can install it.

Now for digital games. Amazon is having a sale on games that have usually been on sale a couple of times over the past couple of months and this time I decided to pick up a couple that I’ve been hesitant on pulling the trigger on

I own these two on consoles already but I never finished them…or got close to finishing them. I figure since I had some luck with the Batman games it could carry over to these games. Together I think I got both for $10 no tax.

Music

I had some decent luck at the thrifts.

There’s a couple of songs I wanted on this Pottery Barn compilation, and I like some of Blake Shelton’s stuff

The only reason I bought Kaiser Chiefs is because its not from this country. Baha Men for Who Let The Dogs Out. I’m 99% sure that the rest of the album isn’t good, and their one hit isn’t much better.

Some new Linkin Park and New Edition for the library

I finally found a copy of this album. When it first came out a friend made me a copy, loved the album, but I never got around to actually buying my own. I finally run into one at a thrift.

Well Pixlpeeps I am off. I want to finish my Ultimate Playlist and then try out some of my games. Have a good weekend, and for the folks moving into SDSU today, welcome to the Aztec Family.

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

Hey, it's The First Templar. I played the demo for that on Xbox a while back. I believe it had co-op, so I wanted to play it. It was kind of a budget title when it came out, but sometimes those games can be fun. I'll pick it up someday - can't beat 43 cents.

Oh nice I didn't know it was an XBox game. Hopefully there shouldn't be a hassle if I use my controller. I do like budget titles, there is always those hidden gems, plus if I don't like this game, it was only .43 cents.
