Troubles With The Division

On Friday Night while taking what is now a monthly trip to GameStop I saw that they had a couple of copies of The Division on PC and it was on sale so I bought a copy hoping that it would be my go to game of the weekend

I was going to wait a bit until it was part of some bundle from Humble Bundle but it was a game I wanted to play and at $30 I figured why not. There were a couple of things I didn’t realize and didn’t like. The first was that this game needed internet connection at all times, even when I was playing single player because it was one of those games where you share the same universe with other players, like Destiny or The Crew. This “feature” removes the option for me to play this game where I don’t have internet, which is a shame. This is something that I hope doesn’t become a trend because I don’t want to be always connected to, or having to look for an internet connection if I am playing away from home.

The next one was more of an annoyance was that I have to use UPlay as the client to play the game. Nothing against UPlay but I have everything running through Steam and I already have other clients like GOG and Origin on my laptop, why do I need another? Anyways after two+  hours of installation between the physical discs (UPlay thought it should shut itself off to inactivity right in the middle of disc 3 to continuing the install from the actual client. After this I was ready to play.

I created my character, I made sure he looked ok and then I jumped into the game. The game itself it fun, but it reminds me of a third person Destiny. Go to a hub, get some orders, go out into the field, shoot your weapon, collect stuff, return to the hub, rinse and repeat. I liked it, I took out bad guys, and found some snazzy items. When it was time to take on the main mission is when things started getting funky.

The cut scene started off fine and then it went to a two tone screen, where the audio was fine but the screen was blue and brown. The title of the game came up so I figured it was just a minor glitch and everything should be fine. When the cut scene was over it was time for me to continue my epic journey of shooting everything and collecting what was left and this is what I saw

Yeah the background was all messed up and when I took a couple of steps the game would freeze. This happened a couple of times and it was a pain. I tinkered with settings and dropped everything to low thinking my laptop might be underpowered and the same thing happened. I created a new character and played through the first three side missions with the settings dropped to low and everything was fine until I got a little further into the cut scene where once again it started acting up. I quit and decided that maybe the install was bad so I am currently installing the game again

Instead of having the wonky install I did on Friday, hopefully a fresh install fixes this or else I threw $30 down the drain.

In other gaming news I started playing Sleeping Dogs on Steam

This was my go to while I was having problems with The Division. I’m a couple of missions in and I’m starting to see some similarities in the combat with the Batman games, except I think the Batman games do a better job.

Speaking of Batman I fired up Arkham Knight on Sunday just to make sure the game loads correctly. I’m not going to play it until I finish Arkham Origins, which I haven’t touched in maybe two weeks.

I finally synced my Vita to Madden 13 on the PS3 (yeah really late) but I wanted to make sure my PS3 save had the bonus items you get when you sync the PS3 and Vita versions together. I’m going to make an effort to play the Vita when I have down time and I want to play football especially since it’s the start of the season, and my games case has a bunch of games I’d like to knock off of Mount Backlog.

Alright Pixlpeeps I am off to get some work done, it looks like my game will be ready to play in 47 minutes. Hopefully this works and I can get past the funky part of the game.

That’s all for now, more later!

I love Sleeping Dogs! I got it through Games With Gold, kind of one of those "I probably won't like this game, but it's free, so what the heck" downloads.

I really want to like this game. The first time I tried playing it I got to a certain point and I just lost interest. Hopefully this time will be different.

How far did you get? I hit a couple of spots where I rage quit briefly, and then went back and managed to get through them.

I got to a part where the main character meets a girl and he drives her back to her place. I forgot why I stopped playing after this, most likely something new came along I wanted to play and just lost interest.

Oh, you quit where it started getting really interesting story-wise!

I have something to look forward to now.

Also, I think you get the ability to hack right around that point.

ug. Uplay.

I've always wanted to play Sleeping Dogs.  I own it on PC and played the first half hour but got distracted.  IT seems like an earnest, good game.

that screenshot of division is pretty damn psychedelic.

Yeah I hate UPlay too. I didn't care for it when I had to use it for either an Assassin's Creed game or something else, and when I went to sign in I forgot my password.

I got distracted during my first attempt too, but hopefully this time I'll get through it

Yeah one time I booted it up, the screen was flashing. Such a pain, but thank goodness it finally works.

I usually avoid signing in to anything other than my console before playing a game. Uplay came up when I played Child of Light, but I ignored it. I got enough things I have to sign into already.

I hate it when companies do this. Warner Bros. does it too with Batman and with Injustice. The only good thing is with Injustice it keeps track of what I was doing on both the consoles, the Vita, and iOS/Android, so I unlock all the goodies.
