Quick Hits: Baby It's Windy Outside

Pixlpeeps what is up? I hope you folks are ready for the weekend because I am. I am ready to tackle something fun (at least I think it is) and right after I finish this latest entry for Quick Hits with Chris, I am off to the local store to pickup a new external hard drive that I found that is relatively close in price to something I found on Amazon but I don't have to wait. Anyways how are you good people? Here in sunny Southern California Fall has decided to hit us hard, and by hard I mean its really windy outside and I think it's 59 degrees. For you folks with actual seasons that's probably nothing, but for folks here are dressing like it's either snowing (North Face and Ugg's with their ice coffee) to the odd (the guys with beanies, t-shirt, gloves, and shorts...WTF) to folks like me (hoodie or a hockey jersey and some jeans) Anyways I do like this weather because listening to Christmas Music about it being cold, and snowy while walking around in shorts is kind of odd.

A couple of days ago during my morning walk I took this picture

Shorts and a hoodie but it got a bit warm when I was done and sitting on a neighborhood bench. Today I'll probably take my walk on a treadmill at the neighborhood gym because I don't want to deal with the wind. Anyways enough gym talk let's get started with Quick Hits!

The Supergirl/Flash/Arrow/Legends of Tomorrow Crossover – The CW

Before I get started I will be placing this under black bars in case for some of you folks who haven't seen it yet, but before I do I just want to say I really enjoyed it and I will most likely buy the episodes from iTunes.

Ok so DC decided to have this epic week right before their mid season finale's (remember when I wondered why they don't just call them cliffhangers?) where all their main characters would team up to fight aliens. Think a B-List version of Avengers taking on the aliens from Independence Day. I was a little skeptical but damn it was fantastic. It felt like one long episode where each night the story would revolve around the characters from that show. The only one this didn't happen on was Supergirl only because she's in another dimension.

The story was because of Barry's actions on The Flash these aliens are coming to destroy Earth, so Barry enlists the help of Supergirl, the folks from Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow. Because Arrow is Green Batman, Ollie doesn't care for Supergirl but eventually they get that fixed. Anyways throughout the episodes there are a ton of Easter Eggs, everything from the Hall of Justice, to the little sneaky one liners, to my favorite, Brandon Routh looking at Supergirl and saying “she looks like my cousin,” an obvious nod to his days as Superman in Man of Steel. My favorite episode of the four night event is easily the 100th episode of Arrow. It was so good because the gang from Arrow were in a dream state where everything that happened on the show never happened. The Queen family is together, Ollie is going to marry Laurel, and Diggle in the Arrow. There were old favorites like Darkh, Deathstroke, and Merliyn and the fun one liners about Tommy being a doctor in Chicago (he's on Chicago Med)

Overall I really enjoyed this four part crossover. It was a lot of fun to watch because it wasn't full on serious but at the same time it had enough drama to keep you engaged. The writers and DC did a hell of a job and it would be nice to see more interaction between their characters in future episodes.

Top Chef – Bravo

I'm back on the Top Chef bandwagon because I actually remembered when it was premiering and because a lot of my favorite chefs are back. This season Top Chef is bringing back eight returners along with eight new folks. The big reveal happened after the first test for the newbies while the returners watched in the back. I do like my cooking shows and Top Chef seems to be the legitimate cooking show because the chefs know what they're doing. If you watch Hell's Kitchen it seems like those folks can't cook chicken, and they ruined a grilled cheese sandwich. A freaking Grilled Cheese Sandwich! Anyways I am curious to see how this season goes and if a returner actually wins.

Sporting Events On Twitter

You know what I love about this season other than Dallas being 11-1 (so much more fun than last season where they would collapse in the 4th quarter) is that games are being aired over Twitter. I love Twitter because I type random things on there but I also love it because now they have sporting events in the app. I watched college football earlier this season, there was college basketball a couple of days ago, I watched some election stuff on there, and now the NFL. Heck while in Hawaii during a family get together outside my cousins and I were watching the last couple of minutes of the Thursday Night game on a couple of iPhone Pluses. Thanks Twitter! Now if you can do this for the NCAA Basketball Tournament I'll really love your app.

Bonus Watch

Two things happened with my streaming services this past week I'm excited about: The first being that Netflix is finally letting customers download content to watch offline *cough perfect for trips that involve airplanes, and my phone carrier is giving us the ability to stream content from Netflix, Amazon Prime, to our mobile devices and it doesn't count towards our data. The only drawback is streaming is what I used to eat at my data at the end of the month but now I can stream Standard Def with no worries. I will however stream in HD to eat some of that end of the month data.

Chris Reads...

So a couple of weeks ago the script to Passengers leaked on Reddit

Originally I wasn't going to watch this movie even though it has Jennifer Lawrence, but I started reading the script and the plot to the film is interesting. I am almost halfway through it and I'm really digging the story and I will most likely check the film out. Of course it won't be as cool as what I'm picturing in my head but it should be good.

Chris Listens To...

I have 80+ Christmas songs that need to be listened to before the year is up. I'll probably listen to them later on today while doing some random stuff on the computer. In podcast news I might actually catch up to this week's playlist by the end of the day. I listen to a lot of Podcasts and a couple of them I can probably get rid of a couple of them because I don't really pay attention to them.

Chris And The External Hard Drive

Ok well earlier I said I was going to buy an external hard drive and this is why. A couple of days ago while cleaning out my little 300GB Hard Drive that I originally used for my Wii (I did that thing where I copied my game library to the hard drive so I didn't have to get up to change games. Eventually the Wii stopped recognizing it so I went back to actually sticking the disc into the console) I figured what the hell and I started installing some Steam games on there. I soon filled up the hard drive but after reading about moving games over in Steam, I had the idea of having all my Steam games installed on this hard drive. It would be nice to have a small library on my laptop of games I currently want to play and for everything else I could just place on this external. When I want to add it to the laptop all I would have to do is copy the files over, remove it from the hard drive, and then point the install to the new location and I'm good to go.

I still have 53 games I need to install but I will do that when I get my hard drive. Copying over the stuff from the little drive should be a breeze and with the leftover space I can add my other project which is ripping my DVD collection to it, use it a temporary backup for photos I take during trips or keep it empty for future games. This way I free up more space on my 2TB Media drive on my laptop, and have this external for almost all my games. I don't think I'll move my Origin or Uplay stuff to the external because it doesn't seem as user friendly as Steam, but I might be wrong.

Pickups!

Games

My cousin picked this up for me last week from GameStop during their Black Friday sale

I'm 70% sure I own the original but just in case I have the PS4 version. I'll give this a spin this weekend.

On PC I bought a couple of items from Humble Bundle Ubisoft Sale

I have this on PS4 but I never really progressed but I think I'll get through more of it on PC because surprise there are some graphics mods I want to try and it worked for me when I played Sleeping Dogs. The game is $9 and I think I paid like $5 for the Season Pass.

I also picked up this DLC for The Division for $8

I recently reinstalled the game because I had more space to play with on my Media drive. Anyways I will play this DLC later on today when I get back.

Alright Pixlpeeps we shall call it a blog because my bank just opened and I want to edit the pics for this Quick Hits, change and then head out. Hope you folks have a wonderful weekend!

That's all for now, more later!

-Chris

Ratchet & Clank was fun. I was just thinking about it today. I finished just about everything in it except for the ultimate medal on a few races. I kind of want it back in my collection to replay sometime.

Ricardo way, way before Star Trek. Interesting.

This game is a lot of fun. It might be the first R&C game I finish.

I left a few trophies for the races unfinished. I was thinking yesterday I may go back and try them again.

Is that the R&C reboot? That's the only thing my 17 year old nephew would tell me he wants for Christmas. He kept saying "I don't want anything" or "I don't need anything" when I asked him.

It kind of is. From what I read the developers added the new controls along with fixing the graphics and what not. I don't think I ever played the original but so far this game is lot of fun.

When they say they don't want anything, they want something. Give him a box with an empty game case...and then when he's disappointed hand him the game Tongue Out

He's getting into hiking, so I think I'll get him a gift card to Eastern Mountain Sports and an Applachian Mountain Club Guide to the White Mountains.

I've been thinking about getting the Division, but since I hear it is relativily low on content, I decided to wait until all the expansions and things are out and bundled in one package. It's what I should have done with Destiny.

Yeah I think there's two different DLC Missions, and everything else is skins. I haven't tried it yet but I did enjoy the main game, and I've heard the DLC I bought is good.

you got watchdogs on PC disc?  is it a steam code? or is it actually on disc?  We're getting my little brother a gaming laptop for xmas, and he's not really into steam, but I'm trying to explain that u need it these days. Still, I've been looking for hard copies of games for him.

I bought Watch Dogs digitally and I got a uPlay code. Check your local GameStop, they are blowing out their physical copies of PC games. uPlay isn't bad but I'd rather have all my games under one umbrella instead of different programs.
