Day 19 Song 19

OMD – Forever Live And Die

This song is one of those first “what is this” moments for me in the mid 80s. My uncle visiting from college whipped out a Walkman, and a mixtape with this song. At this point I was rolling with that AM/FM player from Radio Shack and this was the coolest thing to me because you had control of your music. The song itself was never played on the radio in my small farming town so it was another “what is this” moment (two in one shot). What I like about OMD is that their sound screams 80s but it isn't too far into the all the electronic sounds. There are still good melodies and decent song writing (especially compared to some of the “good” stuff of today). I also like how different it sounds compared to their big hit from Pretty in Pink, If You Leave.

What Chris Played...

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II – Steam

I decided to skip over the first game because I played through it on the PSP and moved on to the second. I already had an idea of what the story was so it was more of the same for this game, Darth Vader's secret apprentice rebels and wants vengence. TFUII isn't a great game, nor is it a bad one. There were no wow moments and most of the fighting was forgettable with some decent environments although some were questionable

Like why was Starkiller fighting in a space casino?

The game at times felt like that enemies needed control by trying to overwhelm Starkiller with numbers. Also at times Starkiller was in god mode with his abilities. If both were relaxed a bit this would have been a better game especially if it was trying to fit within the Star Wars Universe. Just like the previous game you have an idea who the final boss is just from playing the first five minutes of the game

Overall the game was fine, I got my Star Wars fix, got some resolution for the story, and of course the story was left open for what was supposed to be a third game. It's an interesting side story to the main story we all know. Starkiller's abilities could be upgraded by earning points by doing combos and other fun fighting but overall the game feels like its missing the polish from other games that were released during this time. If it had the same fight mechanics as God Of War, it would be extremely better but other than that, the game is fun to play on a weekend but otherwise forgettable...ok not totally forgettable, I mean you fight in a space casino!

Injustice – Android

I think while browsing the App Store on my phone I saw that there were some upgrades to this game, so I fired up the Android tablet (I don't play this on iOS) and I went to check out the new stuff.

I guess you can now raise the levels of your fighters which is nice because I have quite a few who are at Level 50 with a VII rating.

I also added a couple of new characters to the collection including this guy

And a previous character from an older battle that I missed

Yeah he's kind of a big deal

And he's HUGE!

Alright Pixlpeeps I am off. I need to get some things done before the rain kicks in. Have a good Monday!

That's all for now, more tomorrow!

-Chris

you're a much more productive game than I am. I haven't finished a game for... awhile.

Hard to fuck with Darkseid.  But Batman and Superman ain't afraid!

I just wanted to get some games off of Mount Backlog. Having the set goals at the start of the year is what is driving me. Same with listening to everything on my iTunes. I found some new gems/forgotten favorites because of it.

Friggin' Space Casino, hell yeah!

OMD is reminding me of a lot of 80s bands, but I can't think of which by name at the moment. It's not my kind of song, but since you brought up today's music, have you ever seen this: http://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/science-proves-pop-music-has-actually-gotten-worse-8173368/

I know the loudness part is true if nothing else. All the songs I got in the radio station when I was manager were waaaay overmodulated and had to have their amplitude reduced before going on air.

Also, this was a "news" story today: http://metalheadzone.com/its-happening-lady-gaga-invited-to-join-metallica-as-co-lead-singer/

I ... would totally go to that concert because I like them both, if it turns out they ever actually do anything beyond the Grammys.

That smithsonian article is very intersting and I blame the very science that revealed it. As music companies analyse people's tastes down to the tiniest musical detail, via technology, this is what happens: songs get simpler and louder.

Metalligaga? I love it. What weirdness may follow, I wonder?

Space Casino FTW. I watched my friend play the Force Unleashed series and I played the demos. Fun games.

Space Casinos. I want to see Disney stick that in the next Star Wars flick.

Well how about that. I always thought I was just getting older and because of that I just didn't like today's music. With rap I just figured rappers have become lazy and its just bleeding over to the lyrics of pop music. I figured the music was louder than normal because earlier stuff wasn't loud and there was a lot of detail compared to stuff now. Plus I've really been into listening to music with studio headphones where the sound is flat. I don't want all the bass. That was an interesting read.

As for Gaga and Metallica, she's talented and I have no doubt she could handle it, but I think Metallica needs to do something with song writing. I haven't heard their newest album so my point of view could change but I didn't like the most recent stuff.

I always had my music way too loud, in headphones, and X-bass turned on when listening to my Westinghouse portable CD player in the early 2000s.

I liked Death Magnetic, didn't mind St. Anger, Load/Reload as much as others, and I like the hook at least for Moth Into the Flame (newest single off their new album). I'll probably buy more Slipknot stuff before I buy that from them though. I have all their "normal" studio records up to this point and I've always wanted Garage Inc. Never touching LULU though. I'm not the table ...

Hot damn I dig that song. I might have to stream their album to see if I should add it to the library

If that's the case, I'm somewhat surprised you didn't like Death Magnetic. I thought it had a similar sound.

It just didn't click with me. I might have to give it another listen. Usually my tastes change so an album that I don't like I would go back to a year or two later and have a different opinion on.
