Quick Hits: Why Did I Watch Dirty Dancing?

This is the current weather situation here: a couple of days ago the weather decided to become an oven and it hit 110. There was no humidity so it was just hot, which isn't as bad as it sounds (don't believe me, I spent the majority of the day inside with air conditioning) and last night and today it is really windy and it will only be 90 degrees. This is what I get for living in a valley.

So Pixlpeeps, what have you been up to? I wish I could say I've been lurking this past week on the site reading your work but I've been busy with my usual randomness and when I did manage to check in, I didn't have enough time to sit and read. We have a long weekend so guess what I will be doing. Anyways any fun plans for the weekend?

Chris Watches...

Dirty Dancing – ABC

When I found out about this last week I figured it would be a live show like what NBC and Fox have done, but nope it turns out it was going to be a made for TV movie. This should have been the first warning flag. I said ok and then my friend texted me the day of asking if I was going to watch, and I said sure, because I can watch Green Batman over the summer. Well when it hit the East Coast Twitter went nuts and this should have been the second warning flag but again I wanted to see just how bad the movie is. Well....

If you ever watched Lifetime's movies about the behind the scenes of 90s TV shows like 90210, or Saved By The Bell, you already know the quality of this presentation. Disney decided to up the ante and add new storylines, and new scenes (yeah it's already sounding terrible) but wait, Disney also decided to sprinkle in a terrible soundtrack, and at one point it seemed that Dirty Dancing shifted into being Grease. During all of this Disney decided to remove the lovely Mr. and Mrs. Shumacher

the couple that steals. Yeah let's leave a plot hole in what should have been called a reboot. Speaking of reboots guess who played Dr. Houseman, Baby's father

Captain Pike.

If ABC would have said it was going to be a reboot it wouldn't have been bad, but the whole package was not good.

Chris Listens To...

Last week I left off at 5,205 tracks that had zero plays and up to Thursday I am down to 4,850. Last Thursday I don't know if I mentioned it but all the zero plays tracks fit on my iPod Touch so I've been listening to those songs while working, walking, running errands, etc. The best part about this setup is that since I synced a Smart Playlist to the iPod, when I listen to the song, it is removed from the list automatically. If I want to listen to the song again, its still on the iPod, I just have to go find it. Later on today I will probably visit the local mom and pop for any new stuff that hit their used CD section. Speaking of CDs

All the albums from the past month have been placed in their Book homes and I have officially filled up what remaining space I had in this group of books. I need to buy a couple of new ones this weekend.

Chris Reads...

I just can't get myself to continue reading Ben Carson's book so I stopped for a bit and I decided to check this book out

I am on Chapter Four and so far it isn't bad. I did feel the Resident Evil chapter just dragged on but other than that, I'm enjoying it. Speaking of books last week while checking on my Android Tablet it was having problems booting. It would boot, start updating and then the screen went black. After a couple of tries it was time to do a Factory Wipe

The process was painless and when it was done, it was back to factory goodness and it was fast. At this point I didn't want to use this tablet as a gaming tablet anymore considering most of the games I am playing are on the iPad so my Android tablet became my library tablet

Most of the time the Wifi is turned off, because most of the time I will be using it as a Kindle reader. I also added my comic book reader, and I threw in a couple of movies onto the external card for book breaks.

Randoms

I like Twitter, I like reading Tweets. During the events in Manchester someone tweeted something that was in poor taste and that person got the appropriate response from it. Instead of doing the right thing, and just owning up to it, they decide to continue to tweet jokes about it. You know you're in the wrong, just own up, apologize, and lay low for a bit. That's what normal people do, but this person decided against it. I'm not going to post their name because they don't deserve the clicks on their Twitter feed but this person is an idiot.

Neighborhood pet owners: I get you love your pet and you need to walk your pet, CLEAN UP AFTER THE DAMN THING! A couple of dogs decided to leave a “gift” on not only my neighbor's lawn but two on my lawn. Why? The neighborhood has a nice lawn area at the end of the street where your pet can do their business, they provide garbage bags (which by the way comes out of the HOA that you pay every month) and a disposal bin under the bag dispenser. Un-F'n-believeable that some people can't take the five minutes to clean up after their pet.

*random story: A year or two ago I was sitting in a room that overlooks the front yard. A lady with her dog walks up the dog sniffs around and gets ready to drop off a “gift”. Lady is looking around while this happens and I calmly yell out my window “You're going to clean that up” lady is freaked, said the dog is just peeing and pulls her dog off the lawn before the gift is delivered.

There should be a fine, and not the stupid $20 HOA fine. It should be in the thousands. Something that hurts the wallet. Use the freaking facilities that are provided!

Pickups!

No pickups this week! Ok I might have downloaded another freebie game, but I didn't screen shot it and I really don't want to look for it now, because I want to get my weekend going.

Have a good weekend Pixlpeeps!

That's all for now, more later!

-Chris

This week's song of the week is

Only because everytime the Coke commercial comes on where the guy at the pool is trying to get the lifeguard a Coke but the name is wrong on the bottle. In the end he grabs a Coke for himself and she says that's her name and then the song plays. It gets stuck in my head so I finally tracked it down.

So I started that song up and immeditely forgot about it while reading the other parts of this blog, then said "dammit, where is that commercial coming from?" Then I realized it was on here, and when you said it was on a Coke commercial, I thought "KNEW IT. I KNEW IT WAS IN AN AD!" lol I've never seend the ad; just has that sound to it.

I've never seen the original Dirty Dancing. I have ... no opinion there.

I don't have near as many CDs, but I have a few more than can fit in my black CD case now and I unfortunately found some of my Metallica, Megadeth, and Pantera CDs scratched to hell upon cleaning my car ,,, and I forget how to access stuff I uploaded into iTunes rather than purchased. It won't show me that list for some reason. DAMMIT. Well, guess I'll just have to download all my Metallica stuff to replace the CDs. Tongue Out

I want to just turn my phone into an eReader and get rid of the social media stuff.

To me, Twitter is just a generally awful place, as is tumblr. Facebook can be just as toxic, but I'm more in control of my feed there, so I can trick the algorithm by just liking what I want to see.

I share your hatred and contempt for useless dog owners, but I'd say more like in the hundreds still. lol

That commercial is always on right before I go to sleep, and finally I just went and bought the single. I don't think that is what Coke had in mind but it worked on me.

If you ever watch Dirty Dancing, just watch the movie version and not what NBC created.

Funny you mention CDs in the car, I found my old CD case in the back of my closet that an ex gave to me for my car. I used to make copies of my CDs to leave in my car and when they would get scratched I would just toss them, and burn a new one. This was all before I bought my first iPod.

Kindle App. It's easy to use, and you can add your own books if you want.

I like Twitter. It limits people on what they can say and when there is something funny going on, Twitter is a gold mine for laughs. There are the times when Twitter becomes awful, and that's usually the time I walk away for a bit. I have a Tumblr but I never use it. I actually have no idea on what's going on with people's pages with all the .gifs and quotes.

Oh I want folks to seriously think about leaving their pet gifts, and I feel at least a grand will get them to do it.

No, but it's 100% why bands agree to those ads, so someone still got you. Lol

I was thinking Google books, but thanks for reminding me about kindle app.

I guess i feel the same about Facebook, really.

My sister watched it, she didnt like it either however me and her noticed people fat shaming the female lead and that shit is not okay. You can dislike a movie but dont attack someone for their weight. Not saying you did that of course. Its just something we noticed.

When I lived in Apartment complex people did the same thing. They wouldnt clean up after their pets. We complained but essentially all they did was send out notices which didnt do crud.

I like social media but then of course I dont. There are its good days and its bad days with it. I mostly use Twitter and Facebook and thankfully I can control what I see sometimes. Ive gotten use to muting and unfollowing people.

I don't get the point of doing that to a person. Critique the acting, dialogue, and script, but not the person's looks. That's the problem with Social Media.

Speaking of Social Media I agree there are good and bad days. I do love using the Mute and Hide All features and for the most part that cleans up my feed.

I don't get why people are so lazy with their pets. The neighborhood provides a lot of places for your pets to do their deed, and items for you to clean it, yet here I am complaining about these yahoos.

I have three books full of cds. I got into vinyl earlier this year and so I have one box of those that I'm digitizing. Mostly I've been getting stuff from the libraries though. I don't have much attachment to physical media in the music realm anymore.

I don't have the same attachment to vinyl as I do to CDs. I just love the format. It always felt futuristic. I need to re-rip my records and then slim down my collection. I might keep a handful that are really special. I dig that you're using all the resources including libraries.

I basically go to three places for music: Barnes & Noble CD bargain section, Shady Dog Records (my local used record store) for vinyl in their $1 bins, and the mighty collection of all the libraries in the three counties surrounding me. Oh, and sometimes I check out a Goodwill.

I always visit the B&N bargain section. Lots of good stuff for a $5-10 bucks. My local store also sticks a lot of those CDs into their main section to make it look full.
