So here we are on Wednesday and I have to admit it is really freaking nice outside right now. Yesterday the windows were all open up until around 3-4pm when it started to get a little warm but damn I am excited for the change in the weather. Good morning Pixlpeeps! I was going to post what I wrote on my iPad on Monday but it was a holiday so I was being all lazy, and then I figured why not just rewrite what I wrote but take out some of the excess so here we are, with another Combo Blog!

Chris Plays…

Need For Speed Payback - PS4

Oh let me tell you the drama behind installing this game. So I went to install it, everything downloaded fine, because you know that 2 hour download should work. Well it didn’t. I kept getting an error, and the internet was no help. Finally on the third try I figured let’s clear up some additional space on the PS4 and sure enough it installed. Seriously it would be nice if the PS4 just said “Not Enough Space”

As for my actual thoughts about this game, it’s good. EA sure does make a solid story driven racer (get it, “driven”) and it feels like they used the same template from NFS and put it into Payback. Now you’re in a Las Vegas type city…that has a giant solar farm like Vegas, some similar Vegas landmarks, and well c’mon EA you should have just made Vegas.

You still have the same types of races and you can switch cars but you also switch to their matching drivers. You have the main character who does all the street racing, drag, and the like, another character for offroad, and drift, and one who does the get person from point A to B, and does the fun Burnout like stuff of taking down cops/bad guys who are trying to stop you. At the end of the race you earn some cash to be used to buy new cars, and garages and a pick from three cards that are upgrades for your car. The perfect mix of cards can upgrade your cars to higher rankings. There are also derelict cars out in the desert that you get clues to from the race bosses you defeat as well as hints on the map for their parts.

I really didn’t care for the in game music so I went full on Baby Driver with the headphones, iPod and listened to my own mix of what was on my phone and podcasts.

If you’re looking for a game where you can go all in on tuning your car for realistic races, this isn’t it. If you want a predictable plot, fun racing, searching for parts in the desert, and living life a quarter mile at a time, this is the game for you.

Madden 17 - PS4

So I bought an “updated” Madden, and I started playing with the new Los Angeles Rams. I have to admit as much as I hate the Rams mixing of old school blue and white helmet, blue and white pants, with current blue, white and gold road unis in real life, I dig the look in Madden. Of course when I do go home darks I stick with the Jim Everett era/Greatest Show on Turf St. Louis Rams Yellow and Blue.

This Madden is fun, it’s odd to see RPG elements like players earning points as they hit milestones and having those points appear over their heads, but it’s fun.

Tecmo Bowl Kickoff - DS

I literally found this game while getting things ready for my garage sale. I probably talked about it here at some point but I forgot I bought it and yesterday I finally gave it a spin on the 3DS. It is bascially old Tecmo Bowl, fake teams, and updated graphics and cut scenes….and it is so much fun. Jeopardy has been pulled from the 3DS (now I can’t find my Jeopardy cart) and this one will live for a bit.

Garage Sale Recap:

Well for the most part it went over well. I got rid of all the caps, and sneakers I put out, a lot of my records were purchased, and a good number of games. By good I mean maybe 30. I figured they wouldn’t move as well but there were a lot of interest, and to help sweeten the pot of one seller I made him a deal that the stack of games his kid was holding (some 3DS games) would be free if he bought the stack of records he had. Turns out he is willing to take more records off my hands, but I don’t want to jinx it.

In total I was shooting to sell $120 worth of stuff ($10 for the permit, and $10 for what I paid in price dots and tape) and I hit that within the first hour. Records sell. Every person that went digging had a story about how they grew up on records, and one of the buyers was younger than me. I was all about the audio cassette and then CDs. The bulk of my sells came from the records as many folks paid the asking, and some I made deals with. A couple of stories from the sale

l A little kid came up, saw everything, and said “Wow he bought all the games in the world…that’s sad.” I laughed. Kid is savage.

l A lady called her husband and said “they’re selling a ton of video games, what do you want.” She bought all the PS4 shooters I already played and didn’t even haggle on price.

l An older gentleman got excited about the 2-for packs of loose carts and bought an N64 pack and a Genesis pack for $3. Four games for $3 is not bad.

l A kid really wanted Gran Turismo for PS3, didn’t care for the basketball game that I stuck with it but paid the $5 anyways. I threw in a cap for his troubles of taking that basketball game off my hands.

l I met a father who was super into records, and his son plays a ton of PSP. I think the PSP is older than his kid. We talked about his record collection and how he has 1,000 in his house, and a 1,000 more at his mom’s house in Pennsylvania. He bought my Who Live At Leeds Japan release that was disc only in a paper sleeve as well as other stuff for $10.

l A nice couple were looking at shoes for their nephew. They were excited about how new everything looked and were willing to buy a pair of sneakers. The husband talked the wife into two pairs, and then I said he’d really love you if you bought three pairs. They bought three pairs.

In total I made more than I thought I would, I got to people watch, I really only experienced one bad buyer experience, and overall everyone was friendly, and I got to move stuff I wasn’t using. I’m saving the rest for the spring neighborhood garage sale, but I’m adding old jerseys and shirts. Hopefully that moves more product.

I have pickups but since this blog went kind of long, I’ll save them for my regular Quick Hits blog on Friday.

That’s all for now, more later!

ha ha that kid WAS cruel. they just say what they think, don't they?

I'd like to check out the new Madden, but I've heard some so-so things and I'm really not going to pony up the money for it.

glad your garage sale went so well. you must take care of your shoes. Laughing

Yeah he was but he was funny. If his folks would have bought something I would have given him a free game.

I'm waiting for Madden for either a Black Friday sale, or just buy it in the offseason when nobody cares about it.

Thanks! Yeah I have a rotation of sneakers so they kinda look brand new. Over the past year or two I've just worn one or two pairs and then sprinkle in the other pairs when I go out.

Ok, wait ... what was the bad buyer experience?

I'm super happy you hit your goal and then some, but I want these juicy negative details, man. lol

So towards the end of the garage sale day there was an older lady, her daughter, and her hypebeast teenage son (Supreme gear from head to toe). They browsed the games and then went straight for the records. The older lady had an Elvis record said $2, I said sure. They proceeded to keep looking and the older lady said will you make a bundle. I said sure. They proceed to then go through what's left grab seven records and then the older lady said $7. I said let's see how much they are first, and they were a couple of $3 records and the whole thing came up to $15. I said I'll give them to you for $10, and the lady says "I thought you wanted to make a deal" and gives me the stink eye. The daughter was embarassed and said that's fair and handed me $10, and they start to walk off. The older lady is talking trash and the daughter said it's a fair price.

Sorry older lady I don't get pushed around even if it's at the end of the day.

Yeah, she just wanted to make out like a bandit. I don't think that's TOO bad, all things considered, but I know how that ill-gotten stink-eye can ruin your day. Little things kill. lol

Unpleasant people are the hardest part of working imo, so I get it.

Brings back memories of my flea market buying days. Games and records were cheap. I miss thiose times.

Oh man it was so much fun going through the swap meet. When the Genesis and SNES were huge the local swapmeet had a vendor that sold NES games. It didn't matter what game, they were all $5. Now the swap meet folks think eBay is the going rate and at times would put Super Mario at $15.

Yea, everything is way overpriced now. Thanks ebay.
