Pixlpeeps what is up? Today’s Quick Hits will mostly (probably all of it) be a pickups blog so if that isn’t your cup of tea, it’s cool and we’ll talk on Monday…or Tuesday, whenever I get the other blog off the ground. For you folks that are sticking around let’s get started!

Chris DIY Music Project

Ok so I had this idea for a project. Last year I bought two Digital Audio Players, and I’ve been using them but I thought it would be a good time to do more. During my trip to Yosemite I had an idea of sharing music between them, kind of like mixtapes. Luckily for me the local Walmart is blowing out their older micro SD cards. They have a mountain of 32GB cards going for $5 each. They are slower cards but they will do just fine for music so during one of my random trips I bought

01

I gave one to my mom because she needed another card for her point and shoot and she’s just taking pictures of plants so the write speed wasn’t an issue. The next part of my plan was to find a holder. This took a bit of time because all the card holders I found were bulky, or were made like a wallet. Eventually I found one one Amazon and the next day I had this guy for the price of one of the micro SD cards

02

It is the size of a credit card, holds 10 micro SD cards and the adaptor, and made of strong plastic. So what was next? Well I had an old DIY project for my 4th Gen iPod that I dusted off and well with some velcro I got the card holder to fit

03

04

My old converted Walkman Sport is being used again! This is my travel setup and it carries all the SD cards. In the future I would like to add more cards for just albums, audiobooks, different playlists, themes, while the two main cards in my music players will be identical and carry just all the favorite songs. Now the player not in the Walkman case has it’s own everyday carry pouch

This is the player I carry with me while I’m at the music store, roaming around the swapmeet, going to the gym (I need to go back), etc.

Adventures At Treasure Hunt (Dirt Cheap in other areas)

Last Saturday I went to the swap meet looking for random things that piqued my interest. Fake Lego Lady wasn’t there, which means I didn’t see the newest bootleg Marvel/DC Characters China created that Lego hasn’t (Nothing beats the random Iron Man painted in various Marvel/DC colorways) so I went to Treasure Hunt to continue my random hunt.

Now a quick recap of what Treasure Hunt (Dirt Cheap in other areas) is: The store sells items that have been returns to Target, Macy’s, etc, or overstock and offer them up in deep discounts (20-90% off). The price tags have a 5 digit code that you match up with with price card that’s taped to the shelves. There is also a QR code you can scan with their app. Now YMMV when it comes to the condition of the items so always check it out. Now the problem I have with my local store is that parents let their kids run wild they open a lot of the stock so Lego is a huge gamble. I’ve been lucky and found complete sets but you have to really examine the box.

Anyways during this trip they bought stock from what looks like a 90s vendor. VHS tapes, AOL Discs (remember the freebie discs that were everywhere?), Books on Tape, and other random goodies.

07

I would have bought these but I don’t own a VCR. Anyways I walked around and I found some stuff:

08

WWE 2K18 for $10 after the 50% off

09

I found The OC: Scene It DVD game for .40 cents after it’s 20% off. I'm a huge fan of this show so it only made sense to buy this.

10

Megadeth was $6.00 after the 70% off, and the other CDs were only 20% off .50 cents so .40 cents each. The Dizzie Gillespie CD is a regular Jazz compilation but the packaging is in Spanish. Total spent was around $20.

The next day after downloading their app to check prices I went back to check on a couple of things and this is where it got fun. I wanted this Starlink figure but I couldn’t find the price card. When I went to scan it, it came up to .40 cents after it’s 90% off discount. They only had two different characters or else I would have bought the entire run. The other figure was .60 cents after 90% off discount. Odd but whatever.

The next thing I wanted to check was the stack of 3DS games they had at the checkout counters away from their Electronics counter. I scanned them after I paid for my figures and the game came out to .25 cents. A FREAKING QUARTER! Shame it was the only game they had for a quarter but I bought two and in total my “haul” came out to $1.50. I bought one for my cousin in case he didn’t own it because I know he bought the first game.

Other Pickups

Games

From the Nintendo Switch Store I bought two games:

13

One was a dime, which might not be good, but I used the gold coins collected from previous purchases

14

Oh it has been awhile since I’ve played Taito Drum Master on the PS2 and so far I am enjoying this game. I was on the fence spending $50, but for $20 it was time to add it to the digital library. Overwatch will have to wait.

On Playstation I downloaded Destiny 2, and spent the entire day downloading/installing the game. I played a couple of missions and it’s basically the first game. I do however like the melee button so I go around hitting bad guys.

Music

Impulse buys from my CD list on Amazon that were supposed to arrive yesterday but instead I have to wait for one of them today.

15

Oh you’ve heard the song that came from this album. I wanted a physical copy that I could rip into FLAC. The other CD that’s coming today is

16

Kinda funny considering both CDs were ordered minutes apart, and came from the same distribution center in Las Vegas yet one made it on time and the other one was delayed by transporting issues.

Well there it is, my Quick Hits for the week. Anyways I am off to eat some breakfast. Have a good weekend!

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

I'm keeping an eye on that Starlink stuff. When it gets cheap enough, I may start picking them up. I'll probably get the game digitally. I've seen it on sale on Xbox for pretty cheap.

Bravely Second is a cool game. I'd buy that on a sale, for sure.

Yeah the digital deluxe version or whatever they call it has everything. Since they're opening a Five Below down the street from my house, here's hoping they get some figures

Ah ha!  So you did break and got the Taiiko game.  Yeah, even though I'm a HUGE Taiko fan and imported many of the PSP and DS ones, I would never pay 50 bucks for a digital only Switch game.  But for 20 bucks, heck yeah.  I wonder if the PS4 version will go on sale soon?

Have you ever played the arcade Taiko game?

I did, easily one of the better pickups for the Switch. I always wanted the DS games but the shipping from Japan always killed it for me. One day I always say.

You know I don't think I ever did. I didn't know about it until I saw the endcap at my Target when they had the PS2 game. I waited until it dropped to like $8 and then bought a couple. I also have these giant drum heads you put on the floor that can be used with the game. I found those at a 99 cents store of all places.

Thanks! I actually had the matching sport boombox. Man Sony made some good stuff. I was using a Walkman as my everyday player up until Senior Year of high school when I made the switch to the Discman. I still used the Walkman a little here and there in college until I got a CD Burner.

Yeah I had a discman for quite some time too.
